Persona Community Thread |OT6| Where 6 Comes Before 5 (No PQ or P4U spoilers!)

It's Wednesday.

In Persona 1 and 2, everyone could switch Personas freely. Something I kind of want them to bring back, though this Sub-persona thing is pretty cool. Hope it makes another appearance at some point in the series.
For the sub persona thing and switching persona's, I would like it come back in Persona 5. Since I feel it would make the party a lot more stronger not only from a gameplay perspective, but also from a story and character perspective as well. I really didn't like P3 and P4 where in that the protagonist was the only one who could switch persona's on a dime, mostly because it felt like the rest of the team was just his/her lackeys and made them look weaker next to the protagonist.

I bought the soundtrack a while back. Love the title screen music.

The PQ OST is really strong in general, particularly compared to Arena and Ultimax, which can be really hit and miss. The only track I was disappointed with was the credits song.

I only like the vocal songs from Arena and Ultimax. The character themes fit the atmosphere of the games but I generally dislike them, unfortunately.

Q, on the other hand, is pure awesomeness.

So I picked up the Q XL yesterday and I really love this thing in person more than I really liked it in pictures. Unfortunately because of working things best for my budget, the game itself will have to wait a little bit, but not too long.

But yeah the XL, so nice.

Wish there's a New 3DS version of it coming out in the future.

I'm just annoyed about the new 3DS to begin with. The smaller one has more customization for some reason that the new bigger one doesn't leading to a dumb choice consumers have to make, and then there's some nebulous reasons for it existing to begin with. We know of Xenoblade and that's it, isn't it? Whoopie.

That being said, new car next month means no persona q xl for me. :(

Are the soundtracks a relatively cheap thing to collect? Besides the games all I really have are the art books... and my P3 book got coated in red wine the one time I left it out in the open. Lesson learned I guess...¯_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe it'd be the most safe to collect magnets, everyone loves magnets.

I got to floor 2 and I was just about to warp out but I wanted to fill a tiny bit more of the map out...I run into a pile of junk and it says it would be good for Mitsuru, so I took the sword. It spawned FIVE sword enemies and RIP in peace my team.

On hard btw.

This was my first wipe. They destroyed me and I lost maybe 45 minutes of progress. Though now I'm way more careful so I guess it was a good thing?

I guess it depends what you consider relatively cheap? They're about £20 each, which is probably about $33?

Floor 2 of the very first dungeon or something else? I'm at floor 2 of dungeon 1 (P3 side, Hard) right now, so I guess I'll watch out.

My first wipe was when I rushed into fight an F.O.E. right after saving. Fuuka was all "run away!" and I was all "nope, I've got this."

Yea floor 2 of dungeon 1. There is a corner where you find a pile of junk and they mention how there is a sword good for Mitsuru in the pile and if you wanna take it or not. Normally those things have been manageable but five of those swords? They destroyed me.

Ah, I see. I should be pretty close to getting to that point, then. Instead of learning from you and Acid08's experience and avoid it, I'll rush straight into it! ...Though, maybe at least saving before I do, heh.

So, are you guys focusing on just one party for your PQ run or are you trying all the possible team members and leveling them even?

Sticking with a fairly static party for now, but I'm real early into the game and I haven't even met the P4 crew yet. I swapped out Aigis for Zen/Rei at some point, but I'll probably swap them out for something else soon enough.

Basically the same way I operated with P3 and P4.

Off with the "walls help" feature off as well. As soon as I saw that the lines would slightly show up whenever you looked at a wall, I just felt dirty, it made things too easy. Turned that shit off as soon as I could.

Hm, I've kept the walls help option since that was the default, but auto-mapping is off. Having not put too much time into EOIV, I thought drawing maps would be a pain and I'd resort to auto-mapping soon enough, but I'm actually enjoying it. Feels satisfying, and I felt pretty great when Mitsuru asked me to hand her the map I had spent time with until that point and complemented me for it.

^hah I had that same feel good moment with the map and Mitsuru. I wonder if it actually changes if you don't draw or suck at it.

Thankfully, since I save frequently due to me being on hard, I didn't lose that much progress.

So what's your teams so far? so far for me it's Shinjiro, Makoto, Junpei, Aigis and Yukari.
Front: Makoto, Koromaru, Mitsuru
Back: Yukari, Aigis

Thinking about switching in another physical attacker for either Koro or Mitsuru. Though Mitsuru's stats are actually really good right now.

Mine's currently:
Front: P3MC, Akihiko, Mitsuru
Back: Yukari and Zen/Rei.

I'l probably switch out Zen/Rei for Aigis again soon. I didn't even consider the fact that my team needed a healer when I first formed it until a while later when I read descriptions and went "oh yeah, glad I picked Yukari."

I like the special dialogue they can have with one another based on battle circumstances.

P3 side, haven't met the P4 cast yet. Shuffling around Mitsuru, Akihiko, Shinjiro, Aigis, Yukari, and Koromaru.

Also knocked over my first FOE and I'm not even level 10 yet. I was itching to see how tough those early ones are. I only just made it though, on Normal. Gonna gain a couple more levels before I hunt down the rest of them. Fuuka's "regenerate party HP" spell is invaluable.

Yeah I'd say that's fairly cheap compared to most imported merchandise. I'll start by looking into getting the P4 soundtrack or a live album if they're still available.

Current team:

Yu / Yosuke / Chie
Yukiko / Zen&Rei

Ah, the same event happened, but for Yu instead.

I ended up beating them, because Zen & Rei are really clutch units.

Yeah, it's strangely addictive.

P4 side doesn't have an equivalent, right? Sounds like the beginning on that side could be a lot harder.

Rise's more of a buff/debuff support, and can be better at ending battles quicker. Fuuka's 3-turn heal means I can heal up in the labyrinth w/o wasting SP, but if I don't have a damage-heavy party, things get risky.

IIRC someone (is it in this thread) weren't kidding about P3 side being a tad bit easier, without Fuuka's 3 turn heal I would have died many times. Also Yukari's Media.

I'm playing P3MC's side, my team is.

P3MC/DA MAN/Akky (I love this new nickname)

Yukari/Aigis. The fact that Aigis is a back row physical tank + Orgia mode is making her my favorite member. Yukari is almost a must because of innate Media,

I'm thinking of swapping DA MAN with the p4mc, because DA MAN's stats is not so pretty. Seriously at least make his AG not so low, his sp pool is also pitiful, I swear he has the same SP count as Chie.

I swear the game is making me to use Zen/Rei but I really just don't feel the character from them, but again I'm always incredibly critical to new characters

Low AG isn't such a bad thing in some cases. Going after the enemy means that they can't cancel his Boost status by hitting him after he gets it.

I wasn't aware of his low AG and made him to be the debuff-er since his sub persona has Rakuda on it, not exactly a good idea haha.

I really enjoy the fact that this is probably the installment of Persona that the Navi is actually supremely useful. I fused a sub persona with 5 navi skills and it's great. Now gotta save up and buy another one of it as the template since I intend using both Fukka and Rise.....

I was legitimately surprised with the enemy specific dialogues, specifically if you got KO'ed by an enemy the next time you see it your members would comment on it, or that's at least how I think it worked.....

I got ko'ed by
the licking ball in wonderland and the snake in group date cafe, where, my peeps said something like "ugh it's that (insert shape) shadow again"

I haven't actually used the 3 turn heal yet on hard, I imagine I will later.

Ha, have your team points just been on Max the whole time? You should use the; I've been using them a bit, but I think I might not even be using them enough, since my team points are always high because I want to keep it for when I really need it.

Hey guys, when do you think its reccomendable to tackle the first FOE? When I hit level 10 or something?
I got the 1st floor FOE down to half health on Hard with my level 7 party. If you're playing Normal mode, then I guess level 10 would be more than enough.

My current party:
P3MC, Akihiko, Koromaru
Aigis, Ken

Ken needs more love.

Persona Q owns in-battle dialogue.
Yeah, they're pretty great. If Koro dies with Ken in your party, Ken will say something like, "You won't get away with this animal abuse!"

It mostly depends on your team set up. Level 10 is more than sufficient, I think. (I killed it when my party was around level 7).

Since the FOE lacked a weakness and our SP is criminally low, I relied on crits from physical skills to get into boost state.

I used Yu / Yosuke / Chie / Yukiko / Zen. Yu and Yosuke had access to a 2-hit physical skill, so they were criting fairly often. I set Yosuke up with Tarukaja, so he could increase overall damage whenever he landed a crit (if I had Tarunda, this fight would be much easier). I also had Zen fish for crits as well, because Rei could heal the front row for free with recovery. Yukiko was my backup healer, healing on whenever it was absolutely necessary.

The main thing you really need to watch out for is Mow Down, otherwise it's not so bad.

Hey guys, when do you think its reccomendable to tackle the first FOE? When I hit level 10 or something?

I did it on Normal with my party varying between levels 7-9. It was damn hard though, and I almost didn't make it. Tarunda, Sukunda, some Medicines/Revival Beads, and the
Heal Orb
carried me through it.

Reading this puts a smile on my face. As an EO fan I was hoping that people liked the map drawing feature. For me, that's already half of the fun in the game right there. I always refuse to leave a floor unmapped. The drawing percentage certainly comes handy for that!

This so fucking much. It is so interactive, my first time it surprised me, I had Yukari scream out "Oh lord that monster with the big lips looks gross!". Since then it's pretty much been line after line of specific and situational dialogue. It's amazing how much work, love and care they put into this game.

I haven't played Q yet, but I had a similiar experience playing Untold this summer. Untold was a lot of fun while I had problems getting into EOIV.
