Wow really excited for this, I sunk a lot of hours into the last game. So this exclusivity, is it timed or permanent.

Sucks when they do this with an established franchise, like Tomb Raider. Too bad I only have Xbox at the moment. Will wait and see, but hyped none the less, can't friggin wait for this.

No worries. After 6 months, super is going to come out on all platforms.

Retail on the Bone, digital update for PS4/PC.

I appreciate them making SSF4 updatable digitally while also offering retail versions for those that didn't get the game can get a retail ver. of the latest updated ver.

I wonder why whoever chalked this deal up decided to allow a PC version to be released? I feel like the online community is pretty healthy on PC with there being 1300-2000 players on there at any given time throughout a 24 hour period. But I didn't think it was healthy enough for Capcom to not want to ignore the platform. Maybe they got funding from the PC side of things?

With ASW teasing more news for PC releases, DOA5 being announced, more KOF being released, the fighting game scene is looking pretty awesome on Steam. It such a drastic change in the fighting game genre now compared what it was like a few years ago. Seems like there's a new fighting game being announced every week for Steam.

Wishful thinking, 9 months at earliest for a revision and its rumored to be exactly that numbered installments and not prefixes. As in Street Fighter V 1 or 1.4. this seems like a rare case when exclusive means exactly that.

Because there's likely little cannibalism between PC and console sales. Capcom's objective is to get the game in as many hands as possible, and Sony's is to keep it out of Microsoft's hands. Everyone wins.

It's also possible this deal was made early in the PS4/XB1's life, when Sony was crushing MS in NA sales.

All these moneyhat cry babies are hilarious. Even more hilarious that people say Sony wouldn't do this if not for MS even though Sony started the money hatting with the PS1. Unless people think Sega didn't want mortal kombat 3 on the Saturn?

Whatever you say buddy

wait people are complaining sony got a console exclusive? Really?

What about sunset overdrive and ryse? it's not like xbox one hasn't done the same.

Sunset Overdrive was not the same. MS funded it when Sony didn't want to. And Ryse was in development for years and was originally functioned around Kinect. It wouldn't have worked on PlayStation.

Keep in mind this is one of Capcom's biggest franchises. There's no way they'd need funding from an outside source.

yeah it's not like MS has never done this right?

It's true, MS does stupid shit like this all the time. The difference is that they don't get congratulated for it.

Capcom just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Street Fighter 5 for either system, nor will they purchase any of Capcom's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Capcom has alienated an entire market with this move.

Capcom, publicly apologize and cancel Street Fighter 5 for PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Hah! Classic.

I will admit that I'm a Sony fanboy, and when I first found out about this I snickered to myself, but it's just weird how Capcom is making this exclusive when they need the money. Still, best news this year in my opinion, lol.

Late to the party with this but I really dig that trailer. I never was good at the Street Fighter games but they definitely hit a nostalgia cord with memories of going to crappy mall arcades and spending too much money, playing them against my cousins.

But here's the thing. If Capcom couldn't afford to make SF5, how are they going to pull through with SSF5?

Surely this requires future sight on both Sony and Capcom's part (why pay for a game only to have it ditched afterwards)?

The costs of future installments of SF V will be minimal, due to the company using the same engine & models, etc.

It's just like every other game that gets an upgraded version.

Let's compare notable 3rd party exclusives between the systems

BloodBorne - From Software
Street Fighter V - Capcom
Deep Down - Capcom
Disgaea 5 - NIS
Guilty Gear Xrd - Arc Systems
Persona 5 - Atlus

TitanFall - Respawn
Sunset OverDrive - inSomniac
Rise of the Tomb Raider - Square Enix
Dead Rising 3 - Capcom
Ryse - Crytek
Scalebound - Platinum Games

The main difference here is that a Japanese developer actually has legitimate business points in making an exclusive for a Japanese based system. Same for Western Devs and an American based system. Capcom of Japan gave PS4 Deep Down, Capcom of America gave XB1 Dead Rising 3? See how that works? Insomniac gave XB1 Sunset Overdrive, and Atlus gave PS4 Persona 5. Again makes sense. What western third party gave the PS4 an exclusive? None. What eastern third party gave an XB1 exclusive? Platinum Games and Square Enix. You can tell who has more influential cash flow when devs make questionable business decisions away from their own regions.

Also, certain genres simply sell better on PlayStation consoles, to the point where putting them on other consoles isn't even worth it. This is why JRPG's are the exclusive domain of PlayStation. Sony doesn't pay companies like Compile Heart and Nippon Icchi for exclusivity, they're exclusive because the Publisher already knows that their games won't sell on the XBox platform.

Fighting games have always been debatably more popular in Japan than America, and PlayStation is the leading console for Japan (and Japanese-genre players in other regions) outside of handhelds for genres like that. With Capcom being strapped for money as we know they are, Developing solely for the console their game is going to sell the most (and has a vastly bigger install-base) on makes good business sense.

It's this type of attitude we don't need. Buying exclusives is a bad trend, and not something anyone should be behind. If you're a fan of a third-party series, wouldn't you want the title to sell as much as possible?

Of course you want, saying anything else and you're deep into fanboy territory.

Looks like you were never around during the 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit/64-bit, or the 128-bit eras of consoles in where there were plenty of 3rd party exclusives going around between all of those systems before the Wii/PS3/360 era.

well i guess its legit then

cause they just announced SFIV ultra for spring on ps4, and its a timed exclusive for now....

The way it was worded makes me think that Sony is fully funding the port. Adam said something like "Our third party production crew is bringing this to PS4". Not sure if that means they're paying for Capcom to port it or another studio to do it.

Makes me wonder if SFV is timed too.
The SFIV trailer didn't mention timed exclusive ...Boyes did when he was talking about it.
If you just saw the SFIV trailer it made it seem like it was only for PS4...

They made Chun Li's thighs bigger...
:D

I'M HAPPY.

She looks healthy in the best way possible. Her special moves require a metric fuckton of strength and it makes sense her thighs needed to increase in size. That looks like the result of 168 accumulated hours of squats, LOL.

From what I remember Sega moneyhatted Tomb Raider for a timed exclusive but it became linked to Playstation after it's debut on the system with TR2 being cancelled for the Saturn due to limitations of the system and Saturn being a pretty much dead platform.
I don't think there was any money involved on Sony's part.

The director wanted to also make the game for the n64 and it never happened because Eidos pushed him out.

Lol. Now the thing start to be embarrassing. Yeah right it's like TR on xbone whatever you said if it feels you better.
Bloodborne too. Oh and Bayonetta 2 too.

Do I look like Im trying to rationalize here? Non? Im spitting the truth. I f you dont want to here it then....

People need to understand. Companies like Squenix and capcom have no money even though they have mega franchises that are the only thing thats keeping them affloat right now. These deals happen to diminish the risk. AND we're talking about bloody tomb raider and streetfighter here. You know the industry is fucked when we're in this position with. Masahiro-san was right. The industries falling apart at the seams that bind thee.

Wow...

Alright, the Internet is going to hate me even more after my next video. I think it's high time we got some proper perspective on this whole money hatting malarkey.

Truth is Microsoft is entering the industry in the exact same way that sony did.

The difference between them is MS has a much less consumer-friendly endgame in mind in wanting to control the living room.

There's not much a point of that anymore since google and apple control our pockets now...

Unless they want to keep fucking with the cable industry

This is when the term 'moneyhat' should have been coined.

Damn, we went through a whole generation with the motto "Sony doesn't PAY for exclusives".

FWIW, I'm fine with moneyhats. Good for Sony on the SF V move. It is all part of the competitive landscape. And it has been for a long time. Now, the Nintendo thing where they blackmailed NES developers to keep things exclusive, well, fuck that.

??? Err no that's not exactly how it worked. They did do alot of stuff to try and protect their business at the time though. And to keep the amount of shit the industry produced limited. Didnt work very well though. Only got them the name of the "Draconian Ruler" lol.

N64 was the last holdout of Yamauchi Era Nintendo
