Yup, my save file is gone lol. Bah.

Oh well, no biggie. Dark Souls is Dark Souls. :) So does online actually work now?

30fps? D:

Well, I guess I could start getting used to it for Bloodborne.

Is the framepacing correct in Dark Souls PC or should I use external tools anyway?

Fellers,

As someone who jumped in at souls 2, what can I expect from one? In terms of big gameplay changes. Ive heard its less "cheap" but still harder?

Any texture mods or anything I should be trying?

So apparently the game does not work on Win 8.1 64-bits :(

Nah that's not right since its working fine here (it boots up , plays, etc). Not sure about long term though

Also that issue i mentioned where steam prompts (via UAC) everytime you run the game and it attempts to install a "first time install" thing is now fixed.

What i did was to opt out of the beta (where it downloads a 120mb file to reinstall GFWL and other stuff), ran it, then opting back in the beta (where it downloads that 46 mb file).

After doing that it ran with no UAC prompt, or something to install, or the debug menu (sadly), etc and to my knowledge i still have dsfix in the folder (tbf i never unlocked the framerate so that could be why it gives no issues).

Ah, the classic "three popups at a time" avalanche when a game gets achievements and recognises old saves.

feels good.

Maybe I'm an idiot that cannot follow instructions, but I cannot get this to work. I updated the game in Steam. Opened, signed in to GFWL, closed GFWL. Then, when I go to properties of the game in Steam, I don't see anything having to do with a beta version in the game's Beta tab.

edit: Nevermind, it suddenly showed up

Alright I did it and it kept my saves and I got all my achievements transferred too!

Though my mouse now doesn't work.. guess I'll have to tinker with the mouse fix again?

How about a decent pc port, bunch of fucking cunts. I honestly couldn't care less about server migrations. As admirable as Durante's crusade is, it's ridiculous people let From off the hook so relatively easy. The game might have a huge and positive fan base, but that doesn't mean this shit stain of a port is an excuse to let them off easy.

Hate how they limit the refresh rate to 60Hz. I use lightboost on my 144Hz monitor so switching the refresh rate to 60 makes it flicker.

Just to clarify, it was like this before the latest update too, I just wish there was something I could do about it.

Better set your expectations right and lock at 24 then. :p

Don't do this to me

No framepacing issues. It's 30fps, but it's a very smooth 30fps

Thank you!

They redeemed themselves with Dark Souls II imo. What should I do, stop myself from playing my game of the generation because the port isn't that good?

Play the inferior PS3 version instead? Why?

No one is making excuses for the abominable port, but you can't deny how well the game is designed. It is an absolute classic, even in its worst moments.

That the PC port happened at all is remarkable, and I can't say I'm unhappy that it's here... even in such a condition.

From fully corrected their sins in Dark Souls 2, which has a fabulous PC port.

Considering the team had never done a pc port before, they did a pretty good job. It doesn't have the options you normally see on pc versions of the game, but everything that was in the console releases was faithfully translated to the pc.

Besides, DS2 had none of these issues, so I don't think this is an issue for future releases From Software puts out.

Did you see the pre-launch Dark Souls II betrayalton threads? There's no general policy around here of letting From off easy, that's for sure.

It could be more that the time of outrage over the PC port of DS1 is long past, and people are just happy to get GFWL off their computer.

hahaha whoa there chief

first of all, getting rid of GFWL is a positive no matter how you slice it

second, people DIDN'T let From off the hook, and that's why the PC port of the second game is substantially better than the PC port of the first game

Overall DS1 is slightly harder. I feel regular enemies are harder in DS2, but bosses are way harder in DS1. Also, DS1 have more environment traps. Its an awesome game, really (I like both DS games but 1 slightly more).

I never understood the "the team never worked on pc before" excuse. Yeah, it's true, but they charged for the game as experienced developers do for late ports.

Wait they patched out the debug menu? Explains why it didn't appear again (it went away after i verified the files)

Dammit i should have taken some screenshots :/

I wrote a bit about the patch and DSfix compatibility in a blog post.

Hopefully many see this blog or atleast reads about it and the frame unlocking. Shame if people just started removing the entire thing.

oh and Cheers Steam... I basically just bought this game yesterday to experience it in 60fps after completing it a year or so ago on ps3....

... some guy named "boowoo90" just posted memory addresses for the Steamworks version on my blog.

If it's not a prank (or just wrong) that should fix the framerate unlocking.

Edit: according to his IP address he's Japanese. Rogue From Software employee? ;)

Lost Planet 2 is more important than all of those :p

Nope. I don't need Monster Hunter in Space. Though... them porting Colonies Edition to Steamworks would be a good consolation.

Also DSFix worked for me for the five minutes I tried on the beta branch. Double so the "transition"/GfWL included patch. So, I dunno... I haven't updated DSFix in like two years though. So I dunno if anything changed for those that are getting corruptions or whatever.
