CLANNAD Official English Release Kickstarter (Funded | Stretch goals announced)

Isn't the original PC version 4:3? why do they want to

Why would you want to lose pixels?

Edit: seeing the new update, and comments from people worrying about nonsense like drivers, I have only one thing to say.

Make the game output resolution independent of the artwork resolution, and based on what the user's monitor supports and internally scale the artwork (and offer integer scaling). Also provide crop (with scrolling) options and black bars for full artwork.
Brownie points for using good scalers, like lanczos, or jinc with an anti-ringing filter. Nobody likes bilinear. Even better if you provide multiple scalers to choose from.

Cropping is still the devil though

They're working with an engine a decade own that they don't have the source for, so that's not an option.

Oh wow, this is wonderful. Maybe it will come to Steam.

Clannad is great, and I would love to see more Visual Novels be popular.

Considering the engine's been incrementally upgraded over 10 years...we also don't have access to it's source code.

Hire Durente/someone to provide in-build GeoDoSaTo support/or a similar wrapper for upsampling with quality scalers and maintaining aspect ratios (with black bars).

Probably wouldn't help the people who want widescreen though.

This seems feasible, but I'm not an expert.

The game is coming to Steam, VNs are going to get more popular, this will surely help.

It's nice to see you around.
Well that's great. I love Visual Novels so seeing them get more popular on Steam will be wonderful.

And thank you. Sorry I haven't been around much lately, I've been a little busy.

Really happy they didn't go for ports stretchgoals. I would rather have then concentrate on making pc release as good as it can be instead of sacrificing it for anther platform. If there's a market for port I'm sure it will happen, but it needs to happen after they're done with PC SKU.

It's a difficult situation when it comes down to ports. There are things that I would love to talk about but cannot due to NDAs.

At the very least Grisaia will have a Vita port if it hits a stretch goal, but that could change, almost done getting that hammered away.

For Grisaia: PSM or full native Vita?

Oh my god yes please turn my Vita into a VN machine.

Full vita is the plan, we're working on getting in to native. This will also apply to our other Vita ports we put up for previous projects.

I read this too quickly and skimmed back through the thread thinking Vita had been confirmed as stretch goal for Clannad.

Now I'm sad.

Stretch goal discussions #4

Hope everyone is having a happy holiday!

After reading comments and knowing the limitations of the engine we have, we can only support one resolution and will be sticking with the original 4:3 of 1280x960. Additionally "Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de" (CLANNAD side stories), the assets we have for it is also 1280x960 so it would fit well with this decision.

Regarding ports, sorry we can only do PC for now. It is important that we focus on making sure the English release of CLANNAD for PC will be the best release possible so we do apologize that those requests could not be fulfilled.

Regarding the stretch goals not being on the front page, we had been waiting on assets that could be used for the update before doing so. Thankfully, we just received said assets so we will be making additional updates very soon.

P.S. Can you name all the characters in the image above just from their sleeves?

Update.

@Sekai Project - Can we get confirmation one way or another that physical pledgers will get a Steam key? I don't think I'll change my pledge, I'd just like to know.

Honestly, that's not happening. The physical tier is just $10 higher than the digital one, it wouldn't cover the difference.

Steam keys cost the developer/publisher $0 and there's no limit on the number of keys they can request.

I know that, but those getting the physical edition could just sell the digital code to offset the cost of the physical tier, or vice-versa.

Understandable about no vita version, lost any interest I had, I CBA to play vns on a computer or console, for me they're like books I needto be able to play them anywhere.

But interest in grisaia had increased 1000%if this goes through.

Well other kickstarters usually pop in a steam code for the physical products so people get their DD version but I don't think I'd care too much either way.
If not I imagine it'd be part of the buy in rewards at a discount when you're confirming your addy and junk.

Sure, a few people will do that. Screw it. Trust in the integrity of your fanbase and include a key anyway. Because really, how many people are still installing PC games from a disc?

I know I'd personally avoid a physical release unless a key is included.

Including keys for everyone also builds customer loyalty which is important when you're dealing with niche products.

Well when you work as a localizer, it's not always possible. I think some people forget that the Japanese side always gets the last say on things. It's not just Sekai in on this.

Oh yeah, I realize that policies like that are typically due to out-of-touch management. But if we didn't have people pushing back, we wouldn't have this lovely wave of Japanese games appearing on PC. They'll figure it out eventually.

Yeah these things take time. Japanese business people can really behind the times with some things, especially with the international market.

Sekai: I know and fully understand the impossibility of talking or making a CLANNAD Vita port right now since all the efforts are on the PC version. My question is simple:

Can you confirm or deny that there might a possibility of talking about a Vita port later on once the PC version launches?

I want to know if the current denial of a Vita version is due to red tape that makes it impossible forever or just a matter of "it won't be made because we can't right now" and not because "we won't because NDA and don't have legal permission".

I know Sekai Project answered some questions here, but I found out that they're better at answering questions at their Tumblr. I don't know how to do that, but it's an option.

No idea, this is their first game to the Western market. Until we prove that we can deliver the game on PC first there is nothing we can say until they say yes to a port or not.

I will say this: thank you so much for answering questions as best you can hear. Even for someone like me that likes to demand certain things (like a Vita port in this case) it's always good to see that you're at least answering our questions and/or concerns.

Very much appreciated. :)

Damn, it doesn't look like the manga stretch goal will be reached. Even the 2nd stretch goal looks like it'll be close.

They would have passed those stretch goals if they had a Vita port stretch goal in front of them I bet. :(

This is very cool and stuff but why not bring the PS3/Vita version instead? *smh*

They already mentioned earlier that this is a BIG project already, and not that it won't ever happen, but for now KEY wants to focus on just a PC version.

because it would degrade quality of pc version? Plus it would be pretty crappy thing to do. I mean,,,people who paid to make this happen are pcgamers and you want Sekai to forgo making the pcversion the best possible release just for console release? How does that make sense?
