CLANNAD Official English Release Kickstarter (Funded | Stretch goals announced)

because it would degrade quality of pc version? Plus it would be pretty crappy thing to do. I mean,,,people who paid to make this happen are pcgamers and you want Sekai to forgo making the pcversion the best possible release just for console release? How does that make sense?

lol, what? There are so many people here who are obviously interested in the Vita version that it's obvious that the PC crowd isn't the only ones funding this. And the additions they are adding in are from Vita/PS3. And they put a manga stretch goal in instead of Vita?

I get that they want to put PC first and I understand that choice, but to say that adding in a Vita stretch goal would be a crappy thing to do or that it doesn't make sense is borderline ignorance.

Your comment suggested doing a vita port rather than adding the vita/ps3 content to the PC version, resulting in a secondary product being superior to the product that the majority of the backers are pledging for. That is a crappy thing to do. Maybe that's not what you meant, but it is what you said.

Also, your question has not only been answered multiple times in this thread, including by Sekai Project themselves, but it was answered in a reply to your first post (emphasis mine):

This is very cool and stuff but why not bring the PS3/Vita version instead? *smh*

They already mentioned earlier that this is a BIG project already, and not that it won't ever happen, but for now KEY wants to focus on just a PC version.

Are you even reading what I wrote? Come on, reading comprehension. Where did I say that I'd rather want a gimped PC version to get the Vita version?

And what question? The "lol, what" or "And they put a manga stretch goal in instead of Vita?" Both were rhetoric and I have no idea what you're reading from my post.

If so then they are either
-dumb, because there's no Vita/PS3 version
-charitable, in which case they aren't expecting anything back.

Sure, why not. It's added bonus for pc users. Far more valuable than Vita port would be for most pc users. Plus mangas wil be handled by different people. It won't cause additonalal work for Sekai team the way ports would.

Adding Vita stretch goal would negatively affect the pc version and enjoyment of pc users.

I'm not sure if you're playing dumb or what, but have you not seen the amount of people who have donated and are asking for a Vita version as well?

Umm, that's the point of the stretch goal? To raise more money so that Sekai can hire help to work on the Vita/PS3 version. Are you thinking this through?

Right. You're a troll. Should've know.

So..you're saying they feel entitled to Vita version despite there being none mentioned in this Kickstarter? That's just plain dumb. And if they don't feel entiled then they just did because they're charitable, in which case they surely won't be whining that there's no Vita version in the workdsyet.

It doesn't work that way. People would be donating for pc version alongside this too. In essence Vita users would be "leeching" on goodwill of pc users. If you would want Vita users to truly fund their port you should make separate Kickstarter solely for it. How else will you know how much of additional money raised to reach the stretch goal came from Vita users?

But this is a side point. Sekai stuck to picking only the stretch goals that benefit pc users the most. Simple as that. Since they want to focus on pc version first it simply makes sense to stick to stretch goals like those. How would adding Vita stretch goal make any sense in this situation? And a new anthology of mangas sure seems like much better deal than the same damn game, only ported to crappier screen. If pcgamers will be desperate for handheld version they can always run Windows one on tablet.

Right. You're a troll. Should've know.
Riight, every pcgamer who just wants as much cool stuff for himself as possible ffrom this KS is a troll. Sorry, I forgot Vita users are some sort of gift from God to this industry andt they are entited to their version over anything else. I'm surprised you aren't calling for whole cancelation of pc version and replacing it for Vita SKU only. I guess you're just in a giving mood today ;D

Seems like the PSP version is already English translated... and I could play that on my Vita if I wanted...
What are the advantages for waiting for this new PC release? Anything at all......?

well full voice for PC is also translated and can be deemed "good enough" without the extra scenes. The point for me anyways is to legally own Clannad and in a physical form.

Vita fanboys in this thread acting like their port should be more important than sidestories for pc version of new manga content. Despite Sekai already explaining they and Key want to focus on PC version only for now.

Is this the " How can you love if you can't even eat her poop?" character? Is that even part of the story? I don't know anything about this.

Nope, that's Night Shift Nurses, which is a visual novel and an OVA.
And these two have nothing in common whatsoever, besides being visual novels.

Saw this thread bumped up so I decided to visit the Kickstarter page and saw one of the $30 pledges was available. Jumped on it. Friends who have read it tell me it's really damn good so I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I got a question: I will probably be moving within the year. Can I change my address after my pledge when it happens?

Yeah I've gotten e-mails from their other KS's to change it before they lock in the address when they start shipping physical rewards.

I am honestly just trying to get some information on the differences. Like between this one and the PSP one. This one will have JAP voices and the PSP one does not? That's it?

Sekai project if you by any chance release a physical vita version I'm on this and grisaia, so please consider it since lots of people are asking it, or at least say us that there will be one at some time(even if it's outside of kickstarter)

The first post really needs to be updated with this info.

Sekai Project is fully aware of the demand for a Vita version. They read and post in this thread. They know how many people want it. They are interested in doing one. Key/VisualArts has vetoed the idea and want them to focus on making the best PC version they can at the moment, and depending on its success, will be more willing to allow a Vita port later on. No amount of begging in this thread or anywhere else is going to make it happen as part of this Kickstarter, nor is it going to allow them to say anything more than they already have. It's not ideal, and I'd love for a Vita version as much as the next guy, but the best we can do right now is back these Kickstarters (or at least buy the products when they release) to show just how much demand there is for official VN releases in the west.

I don't mean to pick on you, but it seems like every time I see there's new posts in this thread, someone is asking about a Vita version. It'd be nice if the first post and the title were updated so that everyone can find the answer easily.

I'd say that's subjective, like I personally prefer Kanon to Clannad by a vast amount...although I don't find Air to be in the same league at all.

Air definately has a different feel to it then the others, but the one I personally prefer the most. At least as far as the animes go.

Don't worry I also fully understand your perspective, however I don't play on pc although i have a good one but for games I prefer playing them on videogame consoles, and the best one for these kind of games is a handheld one like vita, I can't afford paying for two versions(pc and vita), I would like to help but I am going to wait for some vita related announcement.

Should I/do I need to play Kanon or Air before this one?

No, just don't expect to go back since Clannad is leaps and bounds better than them.

Key stuff is all pretty good IMHO, but judging solely by anime, I'd say Clannad After Story > Clannad > Air > Kanon > Angel Beats > Little Busters.

Clannad, Air and Kanon are all in the same league, while Angel Beats and Little Busters are a tier down for sure.

The forced humor was a big turn-off in both Angel Beats and Little Busters, and actually was so bad in the latter that I couldn't even finish watching it. Angel Beats was at least worthwhile when it wasn't being "silly," but Little Busters was just... very unappealing, and is the only Key anime I haven't enjoyed thus far.

Kanon and Clannad are very, very similar, even reusing a lot of the same ideas, but Clannad feels like the superior take on the formula in every possible way (to me). Kanon is still very good, though, and at least far less depressing, so if you're susceptible to emotional devastation, it might be the safer choice. ;)

And Air is far MORE depressing than any other Key work IMHO, but in a really surreal way. Air is really cool, and is the anime that got me into Key works in the first place. It feels very artsy and unique, and stands out among the other shows quite a bit. Not as engaging as Clannad due to less fleshed-out characters (which I'm sure the visual novel remedies), but it does feel more "sophisticated" in many ways.

This is all just my opinion, though, and I suspect it's a lot like trying to rank Final Fantasy games (or, to a lesser extent, Star Trek movies) -- nobody else will ever fully agree with your list, and everybody will always have their own unique take on the matter that they'll defend to the ends of the earth.

I don't understand Little Busters being below Angel Beats at all.

I'd probably rank it higher than Angel Beats, but the whole first season of LB was pretty boring(I watched it all in one sitting), the second one was the only one I enjoyed. LB suffers of having one of the most boring(even if kinda likable) MCs ever.

I dropped Little Busters the anime since the adaptation was so bad..the eroge/vn is amongst their best though so you can tell how depressed I was that J.C. Staff didn't handle it properly.

That being said, It'd be more accurate to say that I'm more of a fan of Jun Maeda than Key itself seeing as how I don't find Rewrite and Planetarian to be anywhere close to the titles you mentioned.

(I play the games first before watching so there's some of that too)

If this is ranking the anime then I would put Angel Beats above Little Busters as well but I didn't really enjoy either of them. MC of Little Busters was too much of a putz and there seemed to be one too many girls who tried so hard to be cute it got annoying. I don't know if it's the VA or how they were written but I just couldn't tolerate it well this time.

The best thing KyoAni did in those adaptations is give MCs strong personality. They're not the usuall doormats that VN adaptations are. They are just fun to watch and can be a bit of assholes.

Ranking the anime adaptations, eh?

Kanon 2006 >= Clannad+After Story > Little Busters > Air movie > Air > Clannad movie > Angel Beats!

well if we're ranking them(of course it's all opinion):

Kanon 2006>Clannad After Story>Clannad>Clannad Movie>Air>Kanon>Air Movie>Little Busters

If you're curious I would have ranked Angel Beats between the Clannad Movie and Air

well with the daycount left I won't be able to contribute to this one since I wont have expendable money till the latter half of January but i'll buy the physical copy of Clannad as soon as it's available! (If I just put in a dollar now could I upgrade through the backer-kit at a later time?)

I'm glad it got funded, but I'm somewhat disappointed in the overall number of backers.

I thought Clannad had piles of fans.

I am a fan of the anime but it should never be a game. The typical juvenile harem rubbish was possible to overlook in the anime but will surely be the whole point of any game.

The harem aspect was made for the anime adaptation, it's not even in the game.
