Holy shit.

Speechless.

Just watched the first 3 episodes last night and I have to say I'm super impressed. Was looking for a new. Anime to watch and saw that the gurren lagen guys did this so I gave it a shot... I'm so glad I did.

Hilarious, mind blowingly awesome, over the top, crazy in all the right ways and a little FLCL for good measure.

I love it.

Edit.
Any word on another season or what Trigger will be doing next? Going to keep my eyes on these guys. I loved Gainex , and it seems Trigger is made up of former employees.

They're working on Inou Battle right now and Ninja Slayer next year.

Wooo! My Limited Edition KLK Vol 3 Blu-Ray arrived today from Rightstuf. It wasn't supposed to show up until Thursday. I've been looking forward to this one since it'll finally give a better chance to evaluate Ragyo's English VA performance. The single line she had last volume boded well. I still think she won't have enough material to make a final judgment until the 4th volume though.

Why do people hate this show so much again? I loved it, I just find it weird that the show is so divisive and brings out the venom in people.

people see the fanservice and think the show is pandering instead of tongue-in-cheek. it can be uncomfortable to watch if you really don't like that stuff. for me i got over it after a few episodes and by the end whenever they transformed, it was like power rangers. it was cheesy and awesome.

It's not even real fanservice. They have no nipples. It's like a tongue in cheek take on Sailor Moon.

It's the same as people who don't like Gurren Lagann. It's way over the top mecha anime and if people think "But I don't like mecha anime..." or "Wow, what a convenient out. He just had will power and won." they just turn off. For me, the ridiculous commentary with actual substance underneath is the draw!

I still can't believe people don't like Guren Lagaan. It's just a bit of poking fun at shonen anime with how being either hot blooded or super determined can help you win the fight. Seeing Simon take the place of Kamina was a great narrative.

You and me both, brother. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. I know a lot of anime fans who just don't like that Saturday Morning feel. Or they generally only like dark stuff. They aren't wrong, they just have different taste.

bad taste, mind you.

gurren lagann is okay, but it is fucking boring and can't decide on which character to develop so no one actually does. as the over-the-top thing it is, it's fun and wacky. i just wish the characters were better.

I like a bit of everything, nothing wrong with anime variety. I'm just not much of a harem show fan.

I couldn't disagree more. I feel like every character growth was meaningful. Simon being the most obvious, but Yoko is a huge one too. And Viral. Hell, even Kattan! The only person who barely grew was Kamina because he was RAW MANHOOD worth aspiring for.

But again, opinions are opinions and I respect yours! Gurren Lagann made it to my heaven-tier where only The Beatles, Metal Gear, and Gurren Lagann sit.

I love Kill La Kill, and I like mecha anime, but I am not the biggest fan of Gurren Lagann, though I did end up liking it to various degrees by the end.

Some people seem to have an allergic reaction to fanservice, regardless of its purpose or thematic use. Some people don't like the absurdist logic behind fight resolutions or character progression. Some people don't care about callbacks and references to predecessors. Some people just want something "believable". And some people probably just hate fun for fun's sake. And then there's that final possibility that the themes and characters of the show just don't resonate with some people.

I finished watching Vol 3's dub and have the following to say about character performances:

Ryuuko's still fine. The rough edge gets through in her voice quite well.
Satsuki's continuing to impress me. She's still less commanding than Ryoka Suzuki's performance.
Ragyo has left me a little disappointed, but it's not all that surprising since Romi Park gave her a GOAT performance. She's just missing that ultimate sultry, commanding presence that she had in the Japanese. It peeks through every once in a while, but it's mostly lacking in her performance for these episodes.
Mikisugi has left a better impression this volume than previously.
Mako and her family remain outstanding. They're all cartoony and absolutely bonkers.
Harime Nui has a nearly perfect cute, saccharine and ultimately annoying voice.
The Elite Four remains all aces. I couldn't have come up with better casting.
Houomaru Rei's has a very different voice than the Japanese, but I think it works.

It felt to me in this volume, more than the prior two, that many more English colloquialisms and slang made their way into the dub. I didn't have a problem with it, because they pretty much all fit relatively naturally, but I can expect purists are going to have a problem with it.

Sounds like the dub isn't as bad as I initially thought. I had no idea Romi Park was Ragyo. It's very hard to live up to Ryoka Suzuki's performance though.

First UK box set dropped in price today on Amazon
USD 51.24 shipped to the US

damn, selling my US volume 1 and sticking to imports from now on

Got vol. 3 this week, and am I the only one who thought the dub went a little too far this time around with the naughty words? I don't mind cussin', but it felt like they were trying too hard.

I promised myself I'd save up and buy all the volumes but I started slacking when volume 2 came out. I'm so behind and it's only gonna get worse!

I was a fool and bought the regular version of the 1st set....

I own the LE of 2 and 3 now. I might be silly enough to rebuy the 1st and give the regular to a friend.

Watched the whole series last week, and even if I don´t really watch a lot of anime, I thought this was superb.

Yes there are a lot of cliches, but the mix between crazy comedy and over the top action is absolutely great. And while the plot may seem quite ridiculous, the intelligent writing and pacing definitely make up for it.

Also there are a lot of awesome characters (Ryuko <3), an excellent soundtrack and some really cool animation coupled with a very unique artistic design.

Now, about the fanservice, which seems to be the biggest complain about the show, although it did cause me some internal conflict at the beginning, I quickly forgot about it and just focused on the enjoying the experience.

Overall, I think Kill la Kill was one hell of a ride.

Fanservice without nipples is barely fanservice, but on that note Satsuki has a top notch ass. It's a fun show, glad you enjoyed it.

Actually Kill la Kill has a lot of similarities with the Cutie Honey OVA.

Made by the same staff actually when they were at Gainax. Also after watching the series it feels like an homage to Cutie Honey more than anything else.

Those that feel disappointed with KLK can watch this short and uncensored OVA that has even more crazy moments and animation. Chance they'll be able to stomach it more
