2015.06.23: TRAILER. - all episodes on July 31.

( May update: The original movie is now on US Netflix.)

David Wain’s long quest to get a follow-up to his cult 2001 feature comedy Wet Hot American Summer off the ground is officially over. After months of deal-making and prep work, I’ve learned that filming has started this week on an 8-episode limited series for Netflix based on the film, with virtually its entire ensemble cast returning.

That includes Elizabeth Banks, H. Jon Benjamin, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Nina Hellman, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe LoTruglio, Christopher Meloni, A.D. Miles, Marguerite Moreau, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Marisa Ryan, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter and Kevin Sussman.

David Wain and Michael Showalter, who wrote the movie, created the limited series, with Wain reprising directing duties. The two are executive producing alongside the film’s producer Howard Bernstein, Jonathan Stern and Peter Principato.

I think I read once that the plan was to do a prequel regardless of the fact everyone has aged. I wonder if that is still the plan.

YES

Wait has it been ten years? Isn't there a joke about getting together in ten or twenty years at the end of the movie?

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
This is just the best news. I'm a chronic pessimist, but there's no way this will not be awesome.

About 18 minutes into the film there is a scene where a lot of the cast is on sitting on a porch and make a commitment to meet back at the camp in 10 years.

Yes, it's been more than ten years but I wonder if this is going to be somehow incorporated into the 8 episode series

They could fudge the 10 years thing and SET it 10 years from the film even though in reality it's been longer

It was rumored that this series is actually taking place BEFORE the events of Wet Hot American Summer. Like a prequel but with a much older cast. I love that idea.

This movie came out so long ago...

...that it was the Stone Age!

When I was at camp, my favorite activity was always arts and crafts. Or, as we used to call it: arts and *farts* and crafts. We used to make drawings... cave drawings! Which is my way of saying we were cave men. I went to camp so long ago that I can remember saying "sticks and stones may break my bones" and meaning it! I went to camp so long ago that fucking Jesus Christ was my counselor! And my best friend hadn't fully evolved yet! His name was Ug and he walked on all fours! There were two epidemics when I went to camp: head lice, and the plague - the bubonic plague!
