DRIVECLUB |OT2| You Can't Rush Evolution

Hi everyone. Would you mind answering some newbie questions?

1. I'm not into cars but I like games that go fast! Do I need to know my cars in order to be able to enjoy this?

2. Mario Kart and F Zero are about as close as I've come to racing in a long time, but I'm after an arcade style game with fast paced gameplay and lots of speed. Will this do the trick? I like time trials and anything involving score chasing.

3. Is it 'fixed' yet? Are there any broken bits I need to be aware of?

Sorry if they're daft questions. Racing games are way out of my comfort zone but after hearing that this was more arcade than sim and also gets pretty intense (I love intense games) I'm kind of interested.

1. I know almost nothing about cars despite loving to admire them and as you said, go fast. You don't need to know anything about how they work because unlike GT/Forza there's no tuning or customization. Just pick the one you want and go!

2. This game is almost purely focused on score chasing and speed. It sounds right up your alley

3. There are still occasional blips in the connectivity/online features but it's about 95% functional, all the core features are up and running and online matchmaking works quite well, though some people have said there's still issues trying to join while in a party/session with others. The only notable thing still missing is the "notifications" feature of the menu which has been disabled since launch, I'm honestly not even sure what's supposed to be there.

Hope that helps.

Damn you Vivek for setting those insanely good drift scores in those two challenges. Can't believe I got just 10 points away from you in one, and only 50 in the other. This game is trolling me!

Lol I spent an hour and about 30 attempts chasing his ~7500 score on one of those, the closest I got was like 5600 =\

Hi everyone. Would you mind answering some newbie questions?

Before answering your questions I'll say I haven't enjoyed anything besides a kart racer in years but I love DC. So:

1. Not at all. I know nothing about cars. The driving is fun and the amazing visuals add to that experience.
2. Yea and it def has that sense of speed. Although if you're anything like me you will be terrible at first. The game is not easy however with it kicking your ass all the time you are constantly forced into getting better. If improvement and getting better and better times is what you want in a game you'll enjoy this.
3. Yep. It's fixed and amazing. In my time with the game the only problem I've experienced is some slow loading of leaderboards and online features but it's worked fine. It's a great game that continues to get even better.

Also I wanna start doing more challenges. Feel free to add me everyone. PSN: Tstrider

Yea, I think it was 7412. Best I've gotten so far is 7402....smh....

Heh, reminds me of this challenge I came in 2nd on the other day

Anyway, great game so far. Can't wait for the difficulty to ramp up, which if I had a complaint that would be it.
Ahaha oh man. You don't know what you're in for.

You're gonna love it.

There's an addictiveness to this that is not unlike that in TxK. Think things like "if I'd just used that Supertapper a little earlier, I would've hit more enemies at 2x to get that bonus". Or OlliOlli. But it's a driving game and rather than smart bombs it's about taking corners better and pushing them past what you think their limit is. Intense is a good word for it.

I'd say you're a perfect candidate for the PS+ version, but you may well like the full game too.

Damn if I'm late, but now that it's written...

Each car has its own handling, its own limits, so that's something you'll have to learn if you expect keeping on track and being competitive.

2. Mario Kart and F Zero are about as close as I've come to racing in a long time, but I'm after an arcade style game with fast paced gameplay and lots of speed. Will this do the trick? I like time trials and anything involving score chasing.
Sense of speed is second to none in DriveClub, IMO, and some Tour events (solo mode) with hyper cars remind me playing WipEout, sometimes.
Now, it's not a pure arcade racer, so you'll have to learn driving basics (how to take corners, mainly) and can't hope getting through the tracks without breaking and/or releasing throttle.
In that way, it's probably not as easily accessible as MK, but the learning curve is pretty well handled in the game, going all the way from the placid Mercedes A45 AMG to the undisciplined Gumpert Apollo Enraged.

3. Is it 'fixed' yet? Are there any broken bits I need to be aware of?
The servers still get hiccup from time to time, but it's mostly fixed now.
AFAIK, the only bits still missing in action are the in game notifications and the companion app.

I have a backlog longer than my arm. Driveclub distracts me every day. "I'll just look at the Challenges" /enters drift. "Wonder what Accolades are close to leveling up?" /does 15 laps in a Ferrari. "I should go for more Stars" /does a race. Rince, repeat. Lol

I've only just started the Elements career thingy, too. I need to do those before I do challenges, because so many challenges I do I later find out are challenges from those modes, that I'm wasting my time acing the challenges themselves.

I need those new Tours man. Been doing challenges, time trials, random races and online multiplayer galore, but now it's time for more campaign stuff.

I'm only at like 57 stars on the main tour. Haven't even touched the DLC and I have the season pass.

I just can't stop doing challenges :(

Reviews would have.

We knew photo mode, weather and the DLC plans before release.

Reviews didn't seem to care much. Also I wasn't expecting quite such an amazing photo mode. The shutter speed is probably my favorite, but no car damage and such are great, and you get a lot of freedom of movement (Second Son's is also great but very close to the player character only.)

Mwahahaha. I believe I sent out another one in japan. RUF and wet weather on Nakasendo. That was one heck of a puzzle to solve. I'm out all week so you have all the time in the world to beat it :p

Seems like I'm not grasping the Japan tracks as quickly as everyone else. Also, it's sort of irritating that the Unbeatable trophy is still glitched, it's my only one left for platinum and I've earned it multiple times now.

Let me know if you don't get it by next week, when I'm back in action. It's the only one I need as well. Will be my first platinum and I didn't even know I had all the trophies!

All the tour events including DLC now done! That Elements pack certainly separates the men from the boys so to speak. The final race of the "Elements" trophy event... Man... I couldn't see anything!

Bring on Apex and Sakura!

Edit: Need to hit level 50 (45 at the moment) and get all the accolades and I have another shiny platinum to add to the collection!

I see no kie22, you suck.

Haha If being worse at time trials then kie22 is the criteria for sucking, I think we all suck!

F**K YOU! My boys are where it's at! Vaga uses missiles thus cheating, IK uses oil slicks thus cheating, and you go backwards to put the rest of us off thus cheating! Also, I work 27 hours a day so I do have time....

Lol it's all lies I tell you, lies!

Yes your epeen is much bigger :)

I had to look up what that meant... :)

I'm curious to see how fast kie really is in an actual race, because racing is very different from time trials.

I don't hotlap in any racing game I buy(thus why I've done 1 challenge since I've had this game), and I've been playing them for over a decade, and have historically had the edge on every top hotlapper I've raced against in the past.

While it is a different kind of skill doing time trials to actual racing, the guy has real talent and I'm pretty sure he'd be damn hard to beat.

Sounds like we have a little bit of a rivalry building in here. Club vs club race time!

I'd love to be able to do that, hopefully it'll be an option once the private servers arrive.

Just consider them practice for the main event!

I have about 17 Stars in Elements and 1 Star left in a previous Career thingy. It's a fucking hard one too, reach 121kph in that shitty electric car on some windy roads in India. I tried for about 30mins last night before I rage quit as I constantly reach about 119kph. THat 1 Star is preventing me from 100% of that DLC.

That's cool about the new TT mode. Wasn't that idea mentioned in this thread a few weeks ago? Not saying they got the idea here, but it's cool there thinking about these things in the same way the fans are.

The new multiplayer time trial mode is the best thing I never knew I wanted. I have never had a racing game where there were so many different and interesting things to do. Do some tour events, do some challenges, create some challenges, hop online for a time trial event, play around with the photo mode, check my past drift events to make sure I'm still at the top of my friend's leaderboards, or just do a single race just because I want to get used to some new courses or a different setting on the weather or night cycles. There's a lot of distractions in this game.

I dunno if it was from here but I mentioned a couple of things - 1 was a multiplayer race mode where everyone else was a ghost, and the other was when the multiplayer servers were playing up I'd do same event time trials against a mate while in party chat, and often his ghost would appear in my session.

I'm finding I'm better at online races than the time trials at the mo, I tend to win most races but some git always seems to beat my time right at the end on the trials :-(

Also no sure whether I like Dynamic weather or not in the mp time trials - I like that it adds to the pressure (you need to do a good lap when the weather is best) but it is a bit annoying when you've done a fantastic lap in the wet and then some git beats you cos you messed up your dry lap...

Time Trial mode is cool but made me come to the harsh realization that I must be bad at the game

Did 4 TT events...last place in every single one, by a good margin too :(

Maybe it's time to take a break from Driveclub

Anyone using wheel here? Latest update added Photo Mode support by pressing R3. But how to rotate the camera angle? We don't have touchpad or joystick on the wheel.

Yeah, there you go. That must have been it. A ghost race would be cool but ... is it really a race? It's essentially a TT at that point, so I think this mode makes more sense. Either way, nice idea!

No clue but I've bumped the damn button a few times on hairy drives....
On that note, I keep bumping the PS button when things get a little too hectic on-screen. The amount of times it's happened to me is laughable.

Tell me I'm not alone in this.

You're alone.

Buy some of those stick extender attachments. Best $10 I spent for two pairs.

I'm trying to free up space in my PS+ cloud save data. Can I safely delete "Ghosts"? I assume that it is labeled correctly and I won't lose anything of value?

Which ones? I have some rubber protector things after joypadwear-gate, but didn't know they made those extender things for next-gen.

Can't remember the brand, got them from ozgameshop for a song when I bought MGSV Ground Zeroes.

Anyway, they're just generic ones that slip over the top. You get two domed ones with lots of little dots on them to prevent slipping (I put one on the right stick) and two concaved ones (I use one for the left stick).

Man, that flaming Dezir, got two stars left to get, one in the dezir drift, and a 75mph avg speed one in another Dezir event, do you think I can get them? Can I heck!!

Yeah I delete that every single day. Lol.

I guess the alternative is to turn off autoupload for DC, then just manually upload your profile/progress every so often.

Question about cornering/drifting.

Should I do cornering with L2 or O(might be X in western version, not sure)?

I realized that for the drift battle, doing it with L2 doesn't seem to count. But so far I have found L2 more comfortable due to the button position.

How do you guys do it?

L2 is your normal brake, O is your handbrake. For drifting you want to use the handbrake since it's more severe and will put you into your drift. For normal cornering you want to apply your normal brake before you begin your turn, then slowly apply gas as needed until you come out of it and go back to full speed
