Venom hot lap 2 ruined my rubber protector things as well! :/

Just buy replacement original sticks off ebay. They're cheap as chips and can be fitted in about a two minutes. All you need is a technical screwdriver and a pair of tweezers. I change mine (namely only the left sticks) every 6 or more months, just because I like them fresh and grippy.

Mine are still A ok from launch. Maybe I just caress more than brute force...

Tried mp time trialas last night and I liked it. The only I'd change is delete the player's names and avatars if the ghosts are hidden in the game's settings (0% transparency). I often wait 5 or 10 seconds so I can do my lap in peace. :)

I have two controllers, and only one stick has ever actually properly worn, but it was still perfectly useable. The bigger reason I changed them out was because they start losing that grainy grip they have when new, and start getting a touch more smooth and slippery. If I have any moisture on my thumbs, that causes annoyances, especially in competitive shooters lol. But I'm just being picky.

Ha… Will look it up. Do they sell technical screwdrivers and tweezers too? :p

I wasn't even able to beat my own drift score yesterday:( That last corner damnit. That's the thing with rhose short courses. Margins are small and it's so hard to stop trying again:p

So I bought the game eventually. :)

Does GAF have any advice/tips to enjoy the game as much as possible? Are there any tweaks or settings I should be using? What difficulty do you guys recommend?

There are no difficulty settings in the game, except in separate non Tour events where you can choose AI difficulty. But honestly, I'd just switch off your HUD, use the cockpit or dash cam, put on some headphones and take it all in. I find without the HUD you learn the tracks more, and add to that, not having all the points and penalties show up at the top, is less distracting and more fun.

The only time I ever really need the HUD is during Drift events, where I switch to chase cam and switch the HUD back on (so I can keep an eye on how many drift points I'm getting). Bare in mind, even without the HUD you still know if you've beaten a sector time, face off or whatever, as you'll hear a little chirp. If you've not beaten it you'll hear a quiet little thud.

^ ahah, perfect

Anyone using wheel here? Latest update added Photo Mode support by pressing R3. But how to rotate the camera angle? We don't have touchpad or joystick on the wheel.

Played the game a bit tonight, and these new tracks are fantabulous!

And I was finally able to launch the photo mode while using my wheel! Woot!
But why the fuck does photo mode still depend on controls only available from the DS4 when the game simply ignores any input from my DS4 when my wheel's connected?

The game's aware that a wheel is connected, right?
So what about making it change the controls in case one has been detected so that one standard button cycles through the functions both analogue sticks and the touch pad are normally mapped to, and have the d-pad control them?

Pretty please, Evo, don't let me down!

Thanks for the tips. No HUD is pretty much the only way for me in almost every game out there. I played some games without HUD that a lot of people call me crazy about it, like Far Cry 4, GTAV etc. I prefer checking the map than have all this mess breaking my immerssion.

Thanks again, tried a few races yesterday and thought the A.I. was easy and quite forgiving, but I guess the pain comes later in the game. I hope it doesnt get a lot frustrating (although I heard they tweaked the insane drafting of A.I. in straight lines).

Really noticed the heat haze during a few races in chile yesterday, suptle enough to notice, suptle enough to not distract. WIN WIN!

Imo it depends on what you expect from the game. If you're looking to relax by playing a beautiful game then cockpit view with no HUD is the only choice. If you're playing it to beat scores and earn all stars then it's better stick to an external view. You might also keep the minimap on the screen until you memorize all the tracks (or at least the closed circuits without corner flags).

I've noticed on a few challenges now that I never see Autopus' ghost if he's ahead of me in the time trial - ghosts normally work so I thought it was a bit odd that I never see his... Looking on his profile, his recent activity log is private where the guys whose ghosts I see aren't - coincidence or design?

The difficulty all depends on your own ability - some guys really start to struggle after 100 stars while some of us only really got held up by a few notable events. Treat the AI with no respect and you can usually get to the front pretty quickly, i just found you only really learn the tracks by doing time trial & multiplayer.

Rushy, please don't remove dynamic weather from multi ply TT plz! These guys just can't handle the pressure! 8)

Ha I do really like it actually, it reminds me of qualifying in F1 - it's just a bit of a bugger if you've done a stellar wet lap at the start of the session (that arguably takes more skill) then everyone beats it as the track dries out, but that is pretty realistic for GP qualifying.

I did all the stars and so forth in dash cam/cockpit view with the HUD off :p Only one's I turned them on for were Drift Events and now and again corner challenge stars. Average speed offs and drift stars are pretty easy, as the starting line shows up even if you have your HUD off. Yellow grid for average speed off, orange for drift.

Depends on one's skill I guess. ;) For me the breaking point was the Elements tour. I didn't know the tracks that well so I was going blind & slow. And yep, it's much easier to drift with an external view since you don't have to "visualize" how the car is sliding and whether you can keep going or risking running off the track.

Yeah, there you go. That must have been it. A ghost race would be cool but ... is it really a race? It's essentially a TT at that point, so I think this mode makes more sense. Either way, nice idea!

Yeah I think it was more of a rally idea - so a competitive time trial over the whole event. That would probably suit me better than the current single lap thing as it seems I'm more consistent than blisteringly quick. Still the p2p events would probably feel like the original suggestion in the current mode as you'd prolly only have time for 2 complete runs...

I picked this up at the weekend and gave it a proper go last night and loved it, managed to get to level 17 in an evening. Flew through all the beginner stuff and got that “1 more event” vibe before I could go to bed making sure I maxed out all the stars in an event.

As the weather was one of the main selling points I was eager to give it a go in the wet but man does that make a massive difference. Started a dynamic weather race and it was heavy rain with sun straight in my face making just staying on the track a challenge. Presumably there are wet races later in the series? Anyone have any tips or is it really just be a lot more cautious? The AI didn’t seem to have anywhere near the issues I had.

The new multiplayer time trial mode is the best thing I never knew I wanted. I have never had a racing game where there were so many different and interesting things to do. Do some tour events, do some challenges, create some challenges, hop online for a time trial event, play around with the photo mode, check my past drift events to make sure I'm still at the top of my friend's leaderboards, or just do a single race just because I want to get used to some new courses or a different setting on the weather or night cycles. There's a lot of distractions in this game.

Yep exactly how I feel too, I get maybe 2 hours to play in the evening and there's just so much stuff I want to do - I've missed some challenges I want to have a crack at because there was the new tracks then the new multiplayer mode and tonight is Japanese multi mode, I've never known a game like it! :)

Can I just say as well that the new multi mode timing screen is fantastic and I like the nod to F1 (purple sectors are fastest in session, green are personal best). Any chance this could be added to the single player time trials and challenges to show the top ten?

I'd love to see a couple of online race modes that I played in Dirt 2/3 that minimizes contact frustration, 1st is a staggered start race that would work perfectly on P2P tracks & 2nd where everyone is a ghost to each other and we race at the same time (couldn't find a video to showcase that). Had a lot of fun doing online races in these modes, what say you Evo? :)

Or, like I did late last night - set a full wet time that beat everyone else's dry times!

Get some thumb grips like Hama, Orb or hundreds other brands. They fit over the original rubber so don't peel it off.

The original rubber peeled off ages ago (thank you trials: fusion). The caps I had were to protect my thumbs, not the mutilated sticks underneath :D

Will look into replacement sticks

Wow, impressive! :)

Does anyone fancy a GAF mp time trial event around 8.30 / 9pm? (Uk time sorry - I forget we're an international community at times). We all join the same party chat (it does 12 doesn't it?) and split into two parties of 6 in game - as we're in the same chat party the team leaders know which server to go for, and fingers crossed we get put in the same lobby... Anyone up for that?

Sounds awesome even though I already know I would be the last.

I'm not 100% if I end up being online at the time, but if I am, count StaffyManasse in.

L2 is your normal brake, O is your handbrake. For drifting you want to use the handbrake since it's more severe and will put you into your drift. For normal cornering you want to apply your normal brake before you begin your turn, then slowly apply gas as needed until you come out of it and go back to full speed

Thank you. I really don't know how to drive so I don't really know the difference between normal brake and hand brake...
Drifting-> hand break
normal cornering -> normal brake I guess?

It's really hard to drift in this game for me so far.

Foot brake operates both front and rear brakes (more front than rear), hand brake (generally) only operates the rear brakes(yes, yes, I know some weird models, namely French ones, have front wheel hand / parking brakes).

Use normal / foot brake to slow down, and handbrake to swing the rear end out.

You don't NEED to use the hand brake to drift, you can also drift using weight transfer ;)

Loving the challenges, there's not many games that get me playing before work, but I'm finding myself launching this just to check if anybody has beaten my times.

Although I do wish my Kuso Club's paint job wasn't shit smears lol.

There was a bug where MP would fail whenever you're broadcasting your game from the PS4.
Didn't see it addressed in the release notes, so...
That would definitely explain the major connectivity issues if that were the case as I was streaming at the time.

I've had to manually close and restart the game once today to get a connection so things aren't perfect but at least serviceable.

Just bought the game last night on a whim, didn't get to play too much since a bunch of the tracks were still downloading, but so far I am enjoying the look and feel of the game.

Is there any way to filter best times on a track/event by car? I feel like that would be cool to see especially when you haven't unlocked some cars that seem to be getting the best times.
