Majoras Mask 3D - Review Thread

Wrong. MM came out In April. It hasn't been 15 years.

I too have been playing since 2000 with my recent playthrough as recent as last week.

I misread your post I was wrong'ing

In the original, when you had scarecrow skip time, he automatically shared the info with you which you couldn't skip
When you skip he asks you if you want to learn about songs that control time, both in the original and the new one. I just checked.

I noticed my delivery estimate was bumped to tuesday today after it'd said friday 13th pretty much since I ordered it.

Talked to CS, and they upgraded my shipping to 1-day shipping. Now it says friday again :) maybe try that?

I went ahead and gave this a try, and they did the same thing for me. Friday delivery it is! (Hopefully...)

Thank you!

Oh my god that was amazing. So much better than the original. Much more to it, and yes its pretty much completely redesigned in how you attack him.

Also, I finished the woodfall temple with all stray fairies by 7pm of the first day (slowed time). Not my best effort...

Yeah, Odolwa was in the GS demo and was plenty of fun. I like the idea of redesigned bosses because they were the worst part of MM.

Wait

Hold on one fucking second. I just went to hand over my stray fairies to the woodfall fairy fountain to get a powerful spin attack (like in the original) and...

Whaaaaa? You got the magic meter expansion in Snowhead in the original. So uh, that's different.

Yeah! You go through the trouble of figuring out the second dungeon, for example, walk into boss door, and just aim and shoot arrows at the boss from the door. Sad.
The fast way sucks and the way they want you to do it (rolling into him) takes forever.
Goht is what I think of when I think of terrible Zelda bosses.

I don't remember the original odolwa, but the new one is so easy. :(

I disagree totally.

The old one was basically loooool hack and slash at it for a few seconds and lol hes dead broooo

Now he actually kicks some ass. Took me some effort to down him, and now the fight has multiple stages

I'll be playing this for the first time...

If you get to the end of the three day cycle and the moon hits, do you restart with anything known, items found, etc or is it an actual game over and you begin from scratch?

He's my favorite boss in the series.

The original had multiple stages too but it was possible to kill him before the second one started.

No, you restart the cycle but you lose your progress in that cycle and any disposable items and rupees. You keep all your weapons, masks, hearts, songs and dungeon boss items

Strange. I guess since you use so much magic in this game (elemental arrows, goron roll, zora shield) they wanted to make the meter expansion easier to get. And earlier.

Boy, I can't wait to NOT be surprised during my playthrough.

Come on, Rich; it's a review thread.Not a blog.

Eh. Whatever. I won't post anymore then.

Fucking ridiculous how the game is out there, plenty of people on GAF have it, and yet there's no OT until launch day. Never agreed with that new rule.

I'll have finished the game by Friday for crying out loud! Ah well.

And yes to the above poster, I ordered from The Game Collection. Amazing store.

You could use spoiler tags maybe?

Considering everything that has been talked about previously in this thread, spoiler tagging what I posted would be absolutely ridiculous IMO.

We had a two page discussion about the ice arrow change. How is anything I posted different to that? Or the swimming change? Or any of the other things?

Ah well. Like I said, I won't share my experience of the game anymore. I'll just enjoy playing it by myself.

Tongue in cheek, boo. He was kidding.

If you mean me, I wasn't. :D

You never know with some people. The other day someone else freely admitted to pirating stuff. RIP that guy.

Prepping you for heavy magic use with the Goron Roll and new Zora Swim maybe?

That's how I remember it, too. (played for the first and last time two years ago exactly)

Curious how I'll perceive the new version now.

I recently played an in-store demo and there was a fight against Odolwa, but I found it really disappointing. In the original, I can remember him doing sword swipes, sword spin attacks, a lunging sword attack, summoning large bugs, summoning moths, summoning fire and (I could be wrong about this one) making rocks fall from the ceiling. But in the demo, I only ever saw regular sword swipes, a lunge attack and summoning large bugs (no moths).

When you were fighting him in the full game, did he use any of his original attacks?

What? I had to dive/jump using Deku Link, drop a deku nut on Odolwa's head and then hit him on the floor. 3x
He didn't hit me once.

I don't know what is hard about this, or this thing about multiple stages.

Think that strategy works on the new one. The main difference is
that arrows really don't work well on him now. Best strategy is to time your slashes to make him fall. Looking on Youtube, I think they got rid of the bats coming out to get you in the demo, but that might just be for the demo.

it's a remake of an old game. who cares? leave the thread if you're afraid of "spoilers". What do you expect from this thread?

Keep posting impressions Rich. Please.

I know not everyone agrees with me, but just because it's old doesn't mean people haven't played it. And many of those people are probably planning on playing it in only a few days. Including me.

I'm getting out of this thread—the post I quoted was the first one I read—but I'm glad I didn't read more. This thread isn't spoiler tagged or anything, so I'm sure there will be a lot of new players coming in here.

That's totally fine. If I was in your position, I'd leave the thread. Why expose yourself to Majora's Mask discussion... if you don't want to read Majora's Mask discussion? If it's your first time playing this game, avoid Majora's Mask threads. Avoid Majora's Mask reviews. Those are all spoilers.

Ahh okay nice one, so I take it you're supposed to fail a few times?

You don't have to fail ever. You can reset time back to the first day whenever you want. Typically you'll want to do complete a task or two, make permanent progress (getting an item or plot element), then reset the cycle and accomplish something else.

Uh

So far no one has taught me the Song of Double Time or the Song of Reverse Time. Obviously I can play them, and they work but...

...I think the OT for this game is going to have to make the two songs abundantly clear for new players. Not even the scarecrow offered to teach me the songs when I talked to him, so maybe I'm missing something. Maybe the Sheikah stone teaches you it now?

If people play through MM3D for the first time and not realize there is a song of reverse time, they're not gonna have a good time

Uh, this can't be true, I just won't believe it. The only really important change to make it more accessible would be this, but its just as secret as before?

If the game is out in Europe, why is there not an OT?

Technically its not until Friday.

But...Shopto, Nintendo UK official store and The Game Collection shipped their copies yesterday and today. I got mine earlier.

Many people got their MM XLs and special edition games from the official Nintendo UK store today as they shipped yesterday. Quite a few people in the MM XL thread fit that portion of customers.

Basically, here in the UK, release dates don't mean shit anymore if you are buying online. Which is why its crazy we have no thread to talk about the game in.

Also a large retailer in France broke street date too.

I forgot about the ape torture scene. Ahah, Majora's Mask is so weird.

I don't remember the game as well as I thought. My last playthrought was on Wii VC, maybe in 2007 or 2008 when MM has been made available. That's another 6 years ago, give or take.

Also in the Deku Palace the platform doesn't move before you get on them now. This makes this section waaayyyyy easier.

it's not "out" ...some stores just shipped it out early.

what's the rule in this scenario? if there are legit copies out there, can an OT be posted early?

Not just "some stores". The Official Nintendo UK Store shipped theirs out early too!! I mean, that's not just some small retailer. That's bloody Nintendo's official outlet.

I mean come on, the release date rule for OT threads falls apart when it comes to releases here in the UK. We always get them early through online orders.

Yes, if several people have the game, it's fine to post it. If it's just one person who got it early, then probably not.

How many save files are present, is it still two? I wanted to share with my brother and sister.

Threeeeee

It was only two on the N64 because of the owl saves needing their own SRAM space. The Japanese version of the original with no owl saves had three save files.

3DS saves don't have the same limitations.

No. You can play song of time at any point before time runs out.

Thanks for the answers!
The game structure sounds so cool, can't wait to finally try it.
I'll probably fail it the first time through though, just to see what happens :)

Finish the first cycle, get the ocarina. Speak to the happy mask man and save. return to the first day.

Then skip to the end of the final day and watch the world end. That's the best way to do it.
