Will Uncharted 4 be delayed? Also, here's an assortment of random job postings.

My first thought is that they are beefing up in order to meet their internal date. They could probably make the game with their current staff but need more bandwidth to finish earlier.

Well i was wrong! Nice prediction OP.

If the have to delay it, they have to delay it.

But this is the same devolper who put out a full trilogy, DLC for that trilogy, The Last of Us and its DLC all in one generation.

If anyone can pull off solid, timely development, its ND.

Didn't Santa Monica say that they were still working on the opening scene of GoW3 up until the month before?

Although I am sure it is hectic, there is a lot of time to make game between now and November-ish with an engine already created.

Would not surprise me, but I hope Sony has another big gun for the Holidays then.

Its better then releasing a broken game. If MS released H5 and its broken that franchise is fucked. Delays should be a good thing after all the broken games that were released recently.

Not doing this again.

http://www.gamezone.com/news/e3-2014-that-uncharted-4-trailer-was-made-from-an-in-game-engine

in-game engine is totally different than in-engine.

Why aren't you using the official press release from the PSblog?

That’s Nathan Drake rendered in full 1080p glory using the power of our PS4 engine. All footage you see in the trailer was captured completely in-engine. We’re targeting 60fps for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and as you can see the visual fidelity for our character models will reach new heights. In fact, thanks to the power of the PS4, right now Drake’s Uncharted 4 model is over double the polygons of Joel from The Last of Us PS3.

Sure sounds like it will be. Another holiday season with no big exclusive?

From the article:

Firstly, Naughty Dog are seeking a multiplayer level layout artist, who will be responsible for assembling "beautiful looking and beautifully playable multiplayer levels from existing single player art".

They're also looking for an artist to "create models and assemble scenes for both architectural and organic environments", and a single-player game designer who will be "responsible for designing and producing engaging and fun third-person action gameplay and levels".

Wait what ? the article doesn't mention any delay in any shape or form ? how are you deriving delay from a bunch of job offers ?

Never believed it would release in 2015 to begin with. A game like that needs at least 2-3 years of hype
A game like Uncharted 4 doesn't need a prolonged marketing campaign, everyone knows what it is. They could release it in a couple of months and everyone will still buy it.

I mean sure, but they also run the risk of delaying the product and then it still underwhelming (ala The Order).

I prefer them delay the game and get it right. I've never been a big Uncharted fan, but the UC4 video showcased a level of promise with the gameplay that for the first time really got me excited about the possibilities of an Uncharted game. So I'm really unusually hopeful for this version of Uncharted.

Still, Sony's distribution of their AAA games have been all sorts of messed up so far on PS4, and when they do launch they have not been the highest quality bunch to date (Driveclub aside, mmm). So I hope they finally can get on track and releasing the bold and varied titles that I'm so used to on Sony platforms... they may not always connect, but they are always fascinating experiments.

If those jobs really are for UC4 I would be worried they are rushing it out. Still designing single player maps? I hope it is for another project like most are speculating.

The better console gets the shittier first pirty support.

Wow.

I can't understand why people would care about first party games. A game is a game and PS4 had too many great 3rd party AAA games plus a lot of great Indies isn't this all that matters? plus let's not forget that the PS3 had games like TLOU and GOW:A and Beyond:TS and GT6 in his last year so Sony first party not doing great until now is understandable since their biggest studios are still to contribute with their games. even the studios that contributed it was very obvious they rushed their games in order to meet the deadlines

With many AAA games launching broken, if Naughty Dawg needs more time then I'm all for it. Better a delayed game then a broken one.

There is no guarantee it will arrive in 2015.

They are hiring up, as full-production of a game requires a large team.

These two statements are entirely unrelated.

Hiring new people now [8 months away from November] does not mean the game will be delayed. They will continue hiring no matter what is the state of their projects.

Yeah, the article doesn't mention any kind of delay. At all. Or theorizing on it. Nuke it from orbit, please. OP? Tisk. Thanks for the title change, mods! Much better.

You can be sure their PR company has a set list of hashtags they're always supposed to use. What are the supposed to put for jobs in future titles? #unannounced? #thelastofus2? #tlouvita? #thelastguardian? It's just a cheap trick to get the tweet more exposure. Extremely common corporate shenanigans. You might as well gossip about the jobs focusing on kicking puppies around the office.
Well the article says for Uncharted 4
No. It doesn't. Edit: The headline does, but it's nowhere in the article. That's a godawful piece of reporting I'd expect of a blacklisted site.

This game seems like it has always been in a weird position of people expecting it sooner than the release of their last game would suggest. TLOU only came out five months before PS4 launched. I know ND has been a biannual studio of late, but it is new hardware and it seems like a lot changed once TLOU shipped. Rock star and Irrational have taken longer getting sequels out on the same hardware.

9 months until december. There's no need to be worried.

Yet.

I've worked on amazing games made in 9 months. Granted, ND needs a bigger timeframe, but don't forget, their PS4 engine work is kinda done with the TLOU port, so the remaining brunt of work is content, polish and QA.

That is a tremendous amount of time.

No clue from our perspective at this point whether it'll hit a Holiday 2015 release or not. We aren't quite sure how much of the game is complete or how far into their mo-cap process they are (usually a good indicator of release with ND at least). If there isn't an official release date or even period at E3 this year, then it'll slip to 2016.

They delayed TLOU bro and said they dont want a U3 situation to happen again.

I know, but they still have a history of releasing something that isn't ready. As far as TLOU goes, there's a huge difference between delaying a game slated for June and one slated for the holiday rush.

I hope everyone agrees that they SHOULD delay it if it's not ready, right?
I mean I think this whole thread is one big collective silly jump to conclusions. But I personally could not care less about a Holiday list war dick measuring contest, if the game absolutely needed it I wouldn't mind.

One game is not a history.

Holiday list wars are horrible and stupid.

Won't be delayed, like Halo 5 it will be a huge title which all the holiday season strategy will rely upon.
They will hire like crazy and do whatever they can to ship the game on time.
So job postings actually suggest how serious they are with their deadline, also the game already had a public demo in December which makes it ahead in development of where U2 and U3 where at their time.

Remember:

" A delayed game is eventually good but a rushed game is forever bad"

As long as they aim for deliver quality instead of quantity then it's all good.

List war? I care because it's my most anticipated game this year.

Will Uncharted 4 be delayed? Possibly. Do the job listings have anything to do with it? No.

Having a few maps missing or in need of a reboot 8 months (8 months ! it's long !) before estimated release is nothing surprising at all actually, it happens.

Games aren't done until they're done, and that's always dangerously close to release, that's the case for all studios, and Naughty Dog have always been one of the most open devs about that, always saying stuff like "most days you come to work on a shitty game, and it's going to be shitty up until very close to the end", and all their GDC talks for the Last Of Us mentionned things like "if you saw our games 2 months before release you'd never believe we were going to make it". And that's for a studio who always makes quality games.

But anyway, hiring additional level designer doesn't mean that they don't have all of their maps existing in some shape or form, they're just hiring additional level designers to help finish.

Hiring someone doesn't mean he'll have to start something from scratch, so really, nothing to see here.

It's either ND still have half of UN4 unfinished or they're assembling a team for another project. For real this is a lot of jobs to ask for an established team

But of course the game is not finished, we're only in *March*, people. Ramping up on team size once you're in full production is something every dev does. It does not mean that "at the moment" they don't have any level artist or any game designer, they're just hiring a few more that's all, it doesn't give any hint of anything.

I'm not saying the game won't be delayed (I don't really care, I'll have other things to play and don't have a PS4 yet), but there's nothing in a bunch of job offers that can suggest that.

I seriously do not understand any of the conclusion jumping in this thread. Hiring doesn't mean a delay is coming. If anything, it means they're staffing up to avoid a delay.

Pretty much yeah.

8-9 months is a long time and devs can essentially work up to the release date. Who knows, but nothing here points or hints at a delay.

It doesn't really matter if they did it once with UC3, because then they came out and said that they won't do it again. It's clear that they've learned from it and don't plan to make that mistake a second time.

Because the twitter is a person who works on the game, straight from the horse's mouth. Not some marketing shill from a site on the otherside of the world from the announcement.

There's exactly the same article on the US PSblog, and the "marketing shill" also works at Naughty Dog. I personally value a press release which as most likely been reviewed by the team as a whole over a random tweet from one programmer no matter how skilled she is, but hey believe whatever suit your agenda.
