PS4 Firmware 2.50 Suspend/Resume Coming March/April

So, what's special about suspend/resume? What would be a situation where you would use it?
When MGSV comes out and you're in the middle of a 30 minute cut scene but would like to go do something else, this is a good alternative to keeping your system on with the game paused. Just one example.

Holy Shit if true. This will shut up quite a few people. But they will find something new to complain. Maybe printer support? We'll see but good that's finally coming

Here is a hypothetical question:

If you Suspend/Resume a game, will it calculate the time between the two states (in-game time) or it'll be instantaneous and starts from the moment you suspend? in-game timer wise

As in, will it be any different then letting the console on while the game paused for the same period?

You would use it when you wanted to pause a single-player game, power off your console, and pick it up the game later from the precise moment where you left off.

I personally wouldn't get that much use out of it, but I could see where others would.

Couldn't you just pause it? Not trying to be snarky here, I'm just curious about the benefits. Thank you.

On Vita it saves battery life, so here it would save you on electricity because the power consumption would be a fraction of what it uses normally.

At this point i don't even turn my Vita off its 100% in suspend/resume mode.

You can put your console in standby and keep your game where it is so you can resume it from exactly where you left off when you use your console next. It's a game changer on the vita, not so much PS4. Pretty much the only reason you'd want to do it is to conserve power when you're not using your PS4, but don't want to leave it running. If you were fine with leaving it running, it wouldn't really matter.

If it works through turning the system all the way off and unplugging it (like it does on the Vita) then that would be even better, because you could resume from where you left off even between moves of the console. If it's only standby, which I think it is, it's not as useful (but still kinda useful).

Vita doesn't retain your game state if you actually turn the system off, does it?

It's not like leaving the console on. It's like pausing the entire console, and then picking up where you left off as if no time had passed.

Suspend resume is an excellent feature. No checkpoint in sight? Just turn off the system and start up right where you left off. It will get a lot of use from me. I'll also be able to delete the KZ2 0% plaguing my trophy list lol.

Glad it's actually happening. I had assumed Sony had quietly decided it was technically impossible to engineer it back into older games and therefore not worth doing.

Hopefully this'll free up their engineers to start working more on other OS features, too.

For most games on Vita time spent in Suspend mode does not count towards the ingame timer, it is like pause. I assume it will be similar on ps4.

You could pause it but how about if you want to make a run outside. You can suspend the game and come back to it right where you left off. I doubt yoy want to keep it on pause along time while you step out or go to sleep.

Here's why this is a big deal (and if you've used a Vita you know it's amazing): You're no longer are bound by checkpoints and savepoints whenever you want to stop playing. Just suspend, go do whatever you want, and as soon as you're ready the game is exactly where you left off.

It's a terrific tool for games like RPGs, with long dungeons and large gaps between savepoints, or just to not have to wait till the system loads, then the game loads, and then for your save file to load. It's bam, you're right back in it.

AWESOME!! Now DLNA is the only feature left that I want, and I don't even care about it that much. They can release stability updates for the rest of time and I won't complain.

Delete trophies with zero percent.
Search trophy details on the internet, including screenshots of scenes with trophies.
SharePlay at 60 frames per second.
Share trophy details and screenshots.

YES!

And Spotify as well!

Suspend/Resume, Spotify, and trophy deletion are the only things I wanted and soon we'll finally get all three. Life is good.

I want to see how it works but honestly even just not having to load up the game every time it wakes from rest mode would be a start.

What? Why would you not use it on the Vita? Its like the nicest thing in the world to be able to jump right back into a game on a portable device.

Habit I guess? I'm just used to saving when I'm finished a play session. I've used it once or twice when there's a situation where I can't save and have to stop playing, but generally I just save/quit.

Not denying its convenience, I just have never though of it as a huge deal for me. I can certainly see the appeal though.

Delete trophies with zero percent only? Why is it limited to 0%?

You aren't deleting trophies, you are deleting games with 0 trophies earned off your trophy list. It's like what Xbox 360 had with games where you had earned 0 achievements. Basically it's to keep your list clean without being cluttered up with games where you never did anything/didn't play that much.

Once you've earned a trophy, it's on there. Why would anyone want to delete a trophy?

Plus its a lot quicker than rebooting up a game, waiting through publisher logos, initial load times, etc. Its just another way of reducing those "waiting to play" times we had to endure last gen - especially with the PS3.
