PS4 Firmware 2.50 Suspend/Resume Coming March/April

60fps remote play will be interesting. I can't remember if I tried 720p, but I could never stream 60fps reliably with either steam or with my nvidia shield portable when using 2.4ghz wifi. 5ghz was the only way to not have any stuttering

60FPS (and the minor visual downgrade, that I can live with) were the only things that turned me away from Remote Play when I got my PS4 at launch. Having the true PS4 experience no matter where I am would be killer.

60FPS in Remote Play would really make me consider purchasing a new Vita.

I think this is a clue that it is coming:

Remote Play cannot be used with a PS Vita system running version 3.35. A system software update for the PS Vita (to be released later) is required.

Could just be more stability only, but definitely something is already changing with Remote Play which is going to require a Vita (and obviously also) a PSTV update.
And it just stands to reason that if they can do this with Share Play, they can certainly do it with Remote Play, especially over LAN.

Also, fucking love the delete 0% trophy thing. I have a shit ton of those going back to 2006... things I rented or otherwise only briefly played. That will clean up my list immensely.

I keep seeing this. What do you guys mean? Obviously DVD and Blueray work just fine.
I have 10 of me favourite movies I've bought off of PSN with PS3 you could download & keep on HDD now with PS4 I can only stream them 😔 not good on a limited internet plan

I hope it'll let us delete trophies for games that we have more than 0% in..

I don't think this would happend because You should change your profile too (because of the trophies earned) and it seems to be difficult to do that for what they've said about name change.

And there's a lot of shitty games that give you a thropy only for start the game...

Hopefully it will make Pinball Arcade playable over remote play, so I can play the version that looks leagues better than the Vita version (but hell, EVERYTHING looks better than the Vita version)

Just being able to remove 0% trophies makes me happy. Finally I'll be able to remove those games I hate.
Seems like a really good update, still a bit of a shame that there is still no DLNA, but we'll get there too. For now it's great they are coming out with the suspend/resume feature.

Hmmm....

But "backing up" doesn't sound like the games will run from the external.
We will see.
No, but it does mean not having to redownload games when swapping HDDs. It looks like it's all or nothing though, which means it really is just a back up, and not something where you can just move games to and from instead of redownloading or installing. At least it's something.

Wow... I hope we get 60fps Vita Remote Play too. Hope Vita can pull that off. I was worried PS4's hardware encoder was hard coded for 30fps but this is great news if true.
The PS4 Southbridge uses a Xtensa IVP DPU for codecs and DRM encryption, it's a software based hardware accelerator...it's not "hardware" fixed.

Early on it was known that Sony wanted 60Hz video for game streaming as it half's the latency due to Motion Estimation and Intra Frame Prediction in H.264/AVC Encoder. So all this is nothing new just that some of the features are coming with 2.5.

Suspend/resume does mean that all IPTV Apps will soon be low power calling APIs in Southbridge with the game GPU off and in some cases GDDR5 in self refresh with the entire AMD APU off. There is a ton of stuff still planned but 2.5 is a major milestone signaling the Southbridge routines are nearly ready to be published to IPTV developers.

Since some spots on the MVP programm are going to be freed up, how do I get in?

Edit:
Oh, I see... You have to be active and nice in the PS forum. Hmmmm...

Yah but this makes having a physical collection less worrisome now that we don't have to redownload patches again as long as my raid enclosure continues to function. Hopefully the backup feature supports Raid setups.

This... isn't what I wanted from suspend and resume. Like... at all.

I want to be in TLOU, back out to dashboard, open ShareFactory without having to shut down TLOU. Get an invite to play TLOU half-way through editing my video in SF, jump right back into TLOU without having to loose all the progress in SF, and later-on jump right back into SF to continue editing my footage.

Don't tell me I've been waiting all this time for a feature that was never planned to work how I envisioned it.

I would imagine the ps4 would need 16gb of ram to make that even possible. memory isn't free man.

Happy I never found the time to do a HDD swap. I kept putting it off because I didnt want to re-download 60 fucking gigs of BF4 and 50 gigs of GTA 5.

People brought up Bloodborne and the suspend would be perfect for that game. You can rage quit now and just comeback after 10 minutes and try again.

You have been waiting for naught.

But the Xbox One showed a feature that is closely related to what you've been waiting for at their announcement shows. I don't think it's been implemented yet and if it is, it needs every game to be patched.

I might simply be mistaken, but can't we already swap between apps by double tapping the PS button?

Doesn't that already work now?
You can usually suspend a game and start any resource heavy app and then switch between the two. For some apps like the internet browser there is no "game needs to be suspended" prompt but both ways are almost instant anyway.
AFAIK you only can't have two games suspended.

Lots of options in that screen helping people out with various disabilities. Anyone else getting a warm, fuzzy feeling that soon more people can't enjoy their games better/at all?

FUCK! I knew I was gonna be shit out of luck.

What's the point of Suspend/Resume then? It's not like we're back on PS3, and it's understandable when TLOU is taking ages to load, then load into Factions etc. Remastered on PS4's loading times aren't all that bad.

Can I at least suspend a game whilst playing a different game? Replacing ShareFactory in the above example, leave TLOU in Factions MP, back out and play a bit of Tetris, ready to jump straight back-into Factions when firends log in?

On startup Sharefactory will close any other application opened.

Being back in a game like Dragon Age or GTA V within less than 10 seconds is better than 2 minutes.
No save point or check point needed to stop at any time and going into a power saving mode.

Can I at least suspend two games at once?
No.

Great news! I'm more interested in backing up data but suspend/resume is something that I might try. If all rumors are true this is truly a massive update. Hope it comes soon.

Think you misunderstood from the start what suspend and resume was supposed to be. It's not multitasking. It's literally just like your pc sleep mode for consoles.

Can someone explain how external HDD backups work? Can I store my games on the external HDD and transfer them across to the internal HDD when I want to play them? If do, I might just buy an external one since I don't want to download my digital games again.

Don't think anyone can answer this unless they want to break their nda.

You wake up your PS4 from standby.

You don't have to boot a game.
You don't have to button mash away 10 splash screens.
You don't have to load a save file.

You resume your game exactly where you left off in under 10 seconds instead of taking 2+ minutes doing said above.

What's the point of Suspend/Resume then?

You know when you're on your phone, in the middle of composing a message then you have to do something so you press the power button so when you check your phone later you can carry on from wherever you left off? It's like that. Only with consoles. And Bloodbourne.

From that screenshot it looks more like the system the PS3 had.
i.e. it's not selective per game but you do a full backup&restore of your HDD. Basically the most common use would be for when you want to switch the internal HDD.

I don't play every day

I don't either and especially then it's useful as you aren't welcomed with tons of patches and updates of the whole last week every time you start the system.

When you disable the option to charge controllers while in stand-by, the rest mode will also consume much less power.

But charge DS4 while in standby is important, at least for me.

Well, I will use this feature eventually, but its not a game changer here

For those wondering.. The prompts in-game will also change (if they are programmed that way)
i remember playing Yakuza japanese demo, and "confirm" would change to a picture of X.
It was clearly checking the buttons on a system level.
Hopefully many games are like that. And if not, maybe games from now on will display the buttons which you've chosen.

anyone know if you setmbutton mapping PER GAME?

Do we know if this is also the Spotify update?

EDIT: You know what else would be great for this huge update? More stream layouts to choose from. I always use my PC to look at the twitch chat if I'm streaming something on PS4 because their overlay takes up so much space, I wish there was an option to just have a transparent chat overlay on top of the fullscreen game.
