What after FF XV in this gen? FF XV-2 / XV-3 or FF XVI?

Watch FFXVersus be turn-based with an all-female cast dressed in white.

Verendus also mentioned FFXVI being medieval again, by the way. Might really be turn-based again, as Hashimoto and Kitase made sure to mention a few times in interviews after the FFXV reveal that the future of FF isn't necessarily action-based from now on. Plus Kitase talking about how the next-gen consoles (PS4Bone) finally enables them to eventually have fights in a FF with larger parties/squads/armies (like The Last Remnant).

So everything points to an Ito-directed, medieval FF with large-scale battles^^ But then it couldn't really be Agni-based since that isn't medieval and, iirc, Verendus already said that Agni wasn't what he saw of FFXVI (I'll check later - I'm on mobile, right now).

The FFVII remake that Verendus knows of will probably announced at FFVII's 20th anniversary in 2017. Release in 2019/20 at best. So it might be cross-gen by then, plus probably on SE's Cloud-based services like Dive-In and obviously Shin-Ra Technology (lol) if they all work out, anyway.

It is simple really: if FFXVI is directed by Toriyama, I wont buy day one, nor the first months for that matter. I'll wait till used copies are dirt cheap and then I'll consider it.

Don't wait for a game that doesn't even exist.

Probably XV-2 I think, perhaps sadly.
I mean I think its fair to say FFXIII wasn't generally well received, yet they made another two sequels.

Personally I'm of the opinion I'd rather they just make one main numbered FF exploring that universe and characters. I'm fine with "spin offs" or etc. exploring that universe again, perhaps exploring things before, during, or after the numbered entry, perhaps from other perspectives.
As for like a XV-2, I don't know. I think if I like the universe/characters/story, etc. so much, and everyone else seems to, makes sense for a sequel I guess, and I probably would be excited, but I don't like the idea of sequels to numbered titles being expected or common. I think main FF titles should "conclude" the story mainly, and perhaps just spin offs to fill in spaces in times.

First lets see if FFXV is actually coming this gen.

I wouldn't be opposed to a sequel to XV, provided the characters and setting actually warrant further exploration, and it's far too early to tell that.
I would like to see XVI also, but the time and effort put into XV and XIII, and the compromises, shortcuts and retools they've gone through (especially XIII- HD towns, anyone?) don't inspire confidence, I think, in Square's ability to get back to the rhythm they used to have.

How do you explain this then:

FFXVI, then FFXV-2 (or some kind of bigger Story DLC) and after that the real FFVII remake.

Agni's Philosophy will be re-tooled into FFXVI, I just have this feeling.

Drawn two months ago by the FFXV art director who had ZERO involvement in the Agni's Philosophy tech demo from 2012.
BELIEVE :p

What will most likely happen = FF XV-2, XV-3 etc.

What I want = Ito directing FFXVI, FFXII HD on PS4, Crisi Core HD on PS4

Also, hopefully there is a physical release of FFVII on PS4 with a nice CE

I don't see sequels happening unless XV is a huge VII-level success.
You have the balls to say that after X-2 and a not one but two fucking sequels to XIII? I'm sorry but I think we're getting more games in the XV universe regardless of VII levels of success if they want to. They've wimply sunk in too much time and money as to not reuse assets and whatnot.

I've always thought it was silly *not* to make sequels, or at least re-use basic assets like monsters and some world elements.

Building an entire world for one game and then tossing it seems like a waste to me.

Same here... But sadly I think every main FF game from now on will have at less one sequel.

Some FF HD remakes... if Type 0 sellls well enough you can bet Square will do HD remakes of XII and maybe XIII and sell them at a premium, just like Type 0.

I doubt we'll see the "full story" of FFXV with its retail release, so I would be more surprised if they didn't make sequels to it than if they did.

I guess it really depends on how well FFXV is recieved. FFXIII was very well liked in Japan, as everyone had a boner over Lightning, hence them making three iterations of XIII.

I honestly hope they don't drag out an entry for as long as XIII ever again. I want new worlds and more importantly, new characters. They'll also be more FF HD Remasters I'm sure. No way they're not working on an FFXII HD Remaster right now.

Nomura said he planned for XV sequels but he's not longer in charge of the project, Tabata hasn't said anything about sequels and said they dont even plan DLC. You also have to keep in mind that FF sequels sell dramatically less than the mainline games, XIII-2 is better than XIII but it didn't sell anywhere near what XIII did. People want new Final Fantasy games with new worlds and characters, thats one of the best things about Final Fantasy.

I wouldn't be so sure about the XV sequels.

Yeah, I prefer a new FF too, but they still have all those assets. They will want to make the most use of them.

I dont know if this was already mentioned in this Thread.

But as far as i can remember Kitase (or was it Wada?) said in an Interview 2-3 Years ago, that Square Enix doesnt want to have such a long Gap anymore between the Mainline FF-Titles. He said that after FF15 we will soon get Final Fantasy 16. (or atleast they are aiming for that)

Also in the last Gen, Square Enix was busy with an huge MMORPG next to Final Fantasy 13 (which explains the lack of other mainline Titles - also due the chaos and problems that occured with the Engine and FF14)

In this Gen i think SE has way more opportunities and also manpower.

My guess:

FF XV- Release 2016
FF XVI - Announced at E3 2017 or an Special FF Event in 2016 --> Release 2017/2018

Yeah, I think so, too. I'm way more optimistic about SE this gen. I wonder if they're also using the Luminous engine for FFXVI.

Akira Iwata said the following recently in a Famitsu feature about the engine:
"Currently, the FFXV development team and the Luminous Studio engine development team are working as one on FFXV. At the current stage, I can’t speak concretely about titles in development using Luminous Studio besides FFXV, but I can firmly say that it isn’t an engine build solely for FFXV."

The finished Luminous engine will be a tremendous help for SE. They'll have a solid foundation for the most demanding kind of games - huge, open-world ones - that can also offer beautiful visuals, especially if they manage to polish it more for current-gen.

Maybe the other Teams are working with the Luminous 1.5 right now, and after FF XV is finished, the Luminous Team will join the FFXVI Team

FF14 - FF15 - FF16 - FF7 HD Compilation - FF Dissidia - FF Type 0 - FF12 Remaster

This Gen sounds promising for us Fans if all the rumours and speculations turn out to be true

I hope FF16. At their peak FF games were basically "annual" on the PS1. The current cycle of reuse needs to stop IMO. Not sure they can lean down enough to make a game that's profitable with only one iteration anymore though.

I agree, I hope they took a hard look at FFXIII's sequels sharp decline in sales. I feel like 13 hurt the "Final Fantasy" brand quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure I've read that Square has already said they will be doing FFXV-2 but I do hope there is a XVI this gen.
