Clarkson is Top Gear. Unless the BBC wants to suddenly make significantly less money, Clarkson isn't going anywhere.

I suspect the conversation about whether the money is worth the problems is occurring at the top levels of the BBC right now.

I'm willing to bet a few people are bringing up that Top Gear as we know it is getting long in the tooth and maybe it's time for a change now.

There's only so much someone can get away with though. As well as their star, the BBC is an employer and he's their employee. He shouldn't be untouchable. Plus, they've had enough management scandals - an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal? Nope, avoid that. Pay the person off? Nope, huge scrutiny of BBC pay deals. That'll get them haaauled towards charter renewal.

But we have no idea what the fracas actually is. Verbal, physical, to what extent of disrespecting a producer it was... so, see what the outcome is. Suspension during investigation, if it's serious enough any decent employer should surely do that.

No they are not

No they are not

Well, he has several employers. But for the TV show, it's produced within the BBC, he works for them (likely as a freelancer or through a tax shell company - but regardless of how, he works for them).

My point is - he's a big deal for them, but that doesn't put him above the employer/employee relationship.

Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

Didn't think it would happen, but eh he will be back

Millions of people will now have to choose between The Voice & All Star Family Fortunes this Sunday.

Pfft forget that, I will build my own Top Gear with Blackjack, Hookers and Blow... Ah forget the whole thing I will just play Mario Kart 8 instead.

I'm sure he will be back.

I misread that as he will be Black and I was like. <(o_O;)>

I think he's just getting more openly cranky and cantankerous and right-wing as he gets older.

Jezza is Top Gear!

I know that no single person can be more than the show (or whatever) but you cannot get much closer to that statement than Jezza & TG.

I met Jezza once at a car show, he was a nice bloke when i met him, i didn't ask him for a autograph though, this is one thing he will not do & hates the whole idea of it, he has stated this on numerous occasions.

I think there is more to this story though, it is known Jezza can get angry quite easily & although TG is 99% scripted on occasions you can see that it is not scripted & you can see the presenters or a single presenter is not happy at all, maybe the producer pushed Jezza too far? i think for Jezza to have hit the producer which is what some people have said, of course it it wrong, but i think it would take something quite extreme for Jezza to hit a producer of the show.

The problem people have with Jezza is that he says what he thinks & doesn't care what anyone thinks of his opinion, now if more people were like this then the world would be a better place, what would it be like for example if politicians said it like it was?

He won't go for this.

Top Gear is pretty fucked if he does go. I mainly watch to see what over the top shit Clarkson has dreamed up. Most of the brilliant ideas come from him. He doesn't get enough credit for the shows creativity. That said, he can be a total moron. Shame really, he's helped to make one of the most globally liked shows on earth.

Don't think people will care that he fell out with a producer. Need more details about this fracas brouhaha hoopla.

I think they will fire him. Top Gear should have a shake up anyway, I'd like to see it move away from being a comedy show and go back to it's routes.

I could see Sky (BSkyB) going HAM for Clarkson if he becomes available.

But I like the comedy parts and is the only reason why I watch it honestly.

I am not a car guy. <(>_>)> <(<_<)> <(>_>)>

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Wasn't this season supposed to be longer than the previous few, too?

What gets me is that they don't tape the entire season before airing it. It seems like the stars in reasonably priced cars happen the very day of the episode they have pre-recording stuff for. Interesting.

Almost had me there...

I bet this producer was some kind of smug, metropolitan London leftie cunt with a Guardian Newspaper under his arm.

..hope he did hit him, hard.

That's what I thought until I watched last week's episode. They've still got it.

I'm not really interested in directly comparing the two, but when it's words vs. violence, I could see reasonable people coming down on either side.

If the racism thing was more than words, then ignore me, I haven't followed that story.

Well, the truth is, it is more about where the line is. Do the stereotypical jokes made on the show constitute racism, or do they fall below that line of decency?

Obviously the most serious charge was Clarkson saying the word 'nigger'. However, he didn't clearly say it, he mumbled the word, in what appeared to be an act of self-censoring. It's not clear, but gathering what was said by Clarkson, that was actually what was originally intended for the show. It was joke about a well known nursery rhyme where people of his age would be more aware of the uncensored version rather than a more 'friendly' version.

Everything else on the show has been stereotypical jokes. I personally don't think they were offensive enough to warrant censoring. Others may obviously disagree. The fact is though, Top Gear has been one of the most watched TV shows in the world for quite some time. It has an audience of over 300 million. I think the sheer size of its audience refutes that argument to some degree.

Sky wouldn't have Jezza on a car show on their channels, if they did it would be rubbish like all the other good people that have gone to do shows on Sky, other than Ross Kemps shows the rest have failed.

The other thing is, who wants to watch people driving about in normal everyday cars week in & week out, nobody is going to buy a car because it has had a good review on a TV show, people want to watch people driving about in exotic locations in hypercars going sideways at 1000mph, if you don't' want that & want to watch a consumer show then watch Fifth Gear.

If you're ten & watching this now, then it's exactly as good as you think it is.

This is what Top Gear is all about imo.
