Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Both use a square gate, but they have different sticks--Hori uses a Hayabusa, Mad Catz uses a Sanwa JLF. Both are good sticks. Mad Catz uses Sanwa buttons as well, while Hori uses their own Kuro buttons. Opinions on the Kuros are mixed, while Sanwas are generally praised. Hori also has a touchpad on the Kai, which the TE2 lacks.

Hopefully that bit of info helps you out.

Yes that helps out, thank you very much. I've owned a few different Mad Catz fight sticks before and still use one today but with all these delays and how hard it is to get a new one for PS4 currently, I might have to make the switch over to the Kai.

Not direct 3.5 input like on PS4 DS4 controllers. The tech/spec is not available yet to third parties. Also the user experience isn't there yet for the competitive level. It's going to take awhile.

Hey Mark, do you have the blank ps4 te2 template? All I could find is the xb1 template. Also bummer about this mic input not being available yet, although I would argue it's more crucial on xb1 as ps4 allows you to use mics that don't need a controller via usb and xb1 ALWAYS needs to go through a controller.

These both look really great and wow that cyber lead panel looks really good with that limited balltop! You really have a lock on that whole color palette, even your avatar fits lol.

We could make a GAF page on that website and share pictures that way. Have a password we hide through the email tag so any member could upload stuff?

I think that'd pretty awesome.
That's a cool idea as everything would be more organized but it seems way more convenient to just have them here. Like maybe in the OP?

Look what came in the mail!

Ban, I'll have you know because of you I ordered a set of clear gamerfingers. I ordered one of the razer orange switches and one of the brown cherry switches to test as well.

I actually tried to buy the GGXrd stick, but the MC site flaked out despite me trying the minute it went up the second time. Otherwise, I would own one.

Yeah the Mad Catz distribution has been pretty bad this gen. I held off on ordering direct because I thought they would be sold on Amazon like last gen but that didn't happen.
Only just recently were they made available on Amazon and this is months later and it wasn't the Xrd.

I ended up ordering on eBay lol.

Very few people realistically are going to have hands on access to all of them to compare, so if they do their research, I don't think it invalidates a value proposition opinion. I've owned 4 different models of MC sticks as various points, so with the TE2 having the same Sanwa parts, I think I had a decent idea of what to expect out of the TE2 without having touched one. I was not a fan of the price point, the lack of extra button functionality, and the plexi design where the buttons sit inside of the plexi cutouts. For me the Kai is the best buy out right now, but I'm probably in the segment Mad Catz is not hitting with the TE2. I'm glad MC is going to address that with multiple upcoming lines, but at least for me, it's too late unfortunately.

Love the KAI as well although I'm still getting Sanwa buttons so I can rock a white ball top: probably going to send back the Sanwa stick I bought though since I really can't tell a difference. FYI seems to work great with Cronus Max with imperceptible lag so I can still enjoy KI and have a dedicated PS4 stick.

Ooh, let me know how those switches work out, especially the Razer Orange ones! I was eyeing those on FocusAttack...it seems like they should be similar to the reds, which I love already.

I actually ordered the first set of buttons directly from GamerFinger, check out the slick packaging:

I'm going to put the blue switches in and give them a try soon...

Hey Mark, do you have the blank ps4 te2 template? All I could find is the xb1 template.

Can I second this request? I've been trying to make up a stick design for my preordered PS4 USFIV TE2 and I can only find PSDs for Xbox sticks and the PS4 Persona stick with buttons built into the art.

This is my first proper stick and I'm so excited. I've been lurking this thread since December and owe you all for the knowledge I've soaked in.

I see no angry kittens in this photo, that's rare to see nowadays. Maybe I'll do one to when I get my new VLX and TE2.

Holy crap! I only have the Saturn HSS-0136 (with sanwa buttons woo) and I have the Hori RAP V on the way. The Hori stick is GIGANTIC compared to the Saturn Stick! YES!

Well those Gamerfinger buttons look great! I guess that makes the decision of what to use for my VLX a little easier.

And they feel great! I ordered an extra 24mm button from FocusAttack so I could have a full set when the VLXes arrive!

GAF please help. I'm on the fence ordering an Hori RAP V4 Kai, which apparently is releasing in Europe next week and available to buy on Amazon with no hassle.

I'm still not convinced a bit about the Kai spacing between lever and buttons and I am considering if instead it's worth importing a RAP V from Japan which would be way more expensive (I'm quite tight on budget and 150 EUR is already an effort atm) and with all the concernings if something goes wrong.

AFAIK, only difference should be the lever-buttons layout, right? I've been playing with a RAP 3 SA for years now and I'm very concerned about this changed spacing, which if I'm not wrong isn't the true arcade layout. Consider also I will play with the stick on my lap.

Any experience/help is greatly appreciated.

Not feeling the distorted Sega text at all. Seems they tried to follow the curvature of the monitor, but it's totally off.

there are more imperfections than that, look at those buttons. Their method is pretty old school. With regards to the logo, I'm guessing they just don't know how to manipulate vectors well. Looks like it was done in a kinda ghetto manual way. Unfortunate but I don't think it'll be too noticeable being worn. Hopefully that image is just a draft.

The plexi is pretty bad on the TE2s, honestly. Trying to replace buttons and it now comes up and the buttons are loose.

Would plexi from Art's Hobbies fix this problem?

I ordered a RAP V from Amiami and after shipping it was about $167 for me. I converted the yen (20,050) to euros and it would turn out to be 157 Euros for you assuming it's the same shipping cost, so it shouldn't be as expensive as you think. In fact isn't that cheaper than buying the RAP V4 Kai locally since it has tax too?

Plus it looks way cooler since it's red/chrome. Just something to consider if you're really iffy on the stick placement.

Thank you, very helpful info. From my preliminar calculations, I thought importing a RAP V would have cost me more. I didn't know of Amiami either, to be honest.

V4 Kai is 149 EUR (inc. tax) on Amazon.de, so after all it's in effect more or less the same.

I agree that RAP V is also way more cooler looking for the color scheme. Did you decide on it because of the looks or for the stick placement or both things?

I've never actually tried the Kai layout but the fact it alters the Vewlix layout just annoys me. I don't know, Kai layout looks sort of requiring an asymmetrical placement for your arms, whereas they are perfectly centered and equally angled on my current V3SA. That said, Kai layout could well be more comfortable, but I don't see how.

Happy to report that the Capcom Fight Stick bag is just big enough to hold the Kai comfortably. :)

I do have a question though for people who also bought a Capcom bag. Mine came with a square sleeve thing resting on top of the bag, and I've got no idea what it's for. One side is softer/fuzzy material, and other is similar to the bag, and the inside has a strip of velcro on it. Can anyone enlighten me?

Here are a couple pics of both sides:

I chose it because I don't want to wait til April for a Madcatz stick, it's cheaper, looks cooler, and has a start button on top. The stick placement doesn't affect me because I've never used a stick other than the Saturn HSS-0136 which has a crazy stick placement.

Can't believe VLX's are still available after 2 weeks! Thank you Hori for giving us a great arcade stick this generation and plenty of them.

So, I assume someone in this thread knows a thing or two about actual arcade hardware and the like. Where's a good place to buy reasonably priced cps2 boards (like vampire/darkstalkers for example) and other arcade accessories?

I'm holding out hope they'll make something along the lines of the Fighting Edge for PS4. The VLX is just too large and heavy for me to practically store and use.

Still? They have to be running low they were down to around 30 or so on the 9th. Maybe they decided to produce more which is awesome for everyone.
