Do other Australians have horrible buffering issues with Twitch? I don't get it, all the other mainstream video sites work perfectly

It used to be basically unusable for me.

A lot better on NBN, but even then it will sometimes drop down to something looking like 240p =\

That reminds me. Guess I need to go reset my password.

For some reason for me on consoles the video quality is terrible. On PC its OK though.

I've been doing some googling and it seems like Twitch are basically blaming our local ISPs. Curious if anyone actually knows what's going on

I have horrific issues with Youtube as well, and I'm on 100mbit cable.

I don't know what to think.

Really?

I'm on DSL and for the most part video streaming works perfectly well. Twitch is a total outlier to this for me. Always has been.

Well that's not completely true. A couple of services seem to have some buffering issues at night (one being iTunes, another is Animelab), which I assume is due to limited bandwidth on the servers I'm streaming from.

Yeah, I'm ADSL2 and have never had issues with any video site apart from Twitch, which has consistently been inexplicably bad

It's been shithouse for at least a month now. I usually drop the quality all the way down to low when I watch AdamAK .

Hitbox, Youtube, even WWE Network all work way better.

I have issues with YouTube also.

Omi uploads CSGO videos in 1080p/60 and if I try and load in that res it will just shit the bed.

Pretty much the reason I gave up on esports. They all moved to twitch and then it became too much of a buffering hassle to watch. Ffs.

Anything 1080p is basically a lost cause for me now. But having said that, I think it's gotten progressively worse over the last few months so maybe it's a router thing.

At least with CSGO and Dota 2 you can watch in client.

It is nice sitting on the couch watching a tourney though.

Yep, my connection has its good days and bad days. On Optus Cable here.

Youtube and every other streaming service has no problems.

Yes it's a steaming pile. I'm on NBN (100mbit) and some days even when I'm the only person home and every other site works fine, it drops down to minimum res and still buffers on some channels.

Sometimes YT is a turd also, not sure if it's telstra being shit or the site being shit.

With these video streaming services, how often do they add content? Do they tell you if they've got something awesome coming to it? Also I'm guessing HBO stuff isn't available on any of them? Tossing up between Netflix and Stan, don't really want/need both. Tough choice, I guess there will be things I miss out on.

Netflix will normally release a list of the coming month's additions and removals

I'd go with Netflix and I still quite like Stan. But Netflix will offer far more content.

I jumped on Netflix for Daredevil next month. Hopefully the first wave of additions are good. I got caught up watching stand up comedy this morning and I don't even like stand up comedy.

Do you care to expand on that?

THE sexual adventures of Christian Grey are a shade too risque for the Australian Christian Lobby, which wants open-air cinema organisers to have “a good, hard look” at whether an outdoor screening of an erotic blockbuster is appropriate.

Eh, the movie is rated MA15+. If the people who attend the screening are old enough and not offended by whatever content it portrays, what do I care?

The charity fundraiser thing sounds like borderline stupidity though.

Hey guys, first time posting in here. Did anyone else purchase Bloodborne off the US store? I did and earlier in the day the timer was showing it unlocking at 2 PM, but I've just turned it on and I guess it has figured out I'm in Australia and is showing it as unlocking in 9 more hours. Not a big deal, just wondering if anyone knows a way around this or is having the same issue?

Unlocked for me 30 mins ago. Make sure you're logged into your US account, not the AU account.

... now subsided.

If I got home and was unable to play Bradbone I'd be pissed!

The main issue is not everything you want to watch is on Netflix. Particularly recent releases. For someone looking for something to watch it's good, for someone with some specific thing in mind it's often lacking.

I guess people who want to watch newer movies and are unwilling to wait for Netflix/Stan to get it. And are unwilling to deal with physical rentals. Of course these days there's only kiosks and their variety is a joke at best.

Even without subscription based streaming I never felt the urge to rent movies like that. But then if I have a urgent need to see something new I'll see it at the cinema rather than pay new release rental prices.

I see! So its like the old days where video shops had weekly rentals.

I just assumed Netflix had the latest movies like six months to a year after the cinemas.

Btw - I just heard about Stan - how's the catalogue on that and how would you go about choosing between Netflix and Stan?

Seriously, sbs on demand has a fantastic lineup. Check that out first, then opt for the paid service which has the least overlap.

Been doing some research and it seems like Stan has the most content, whether better or not is arguable but it has some good exclusives, while Netflix has more potential down the track once they start adding more things. Still a tough choice!

OK here's a Netflix question I can't seem to find an answer to: how much bandwidth an hour would this thing be using?

I have about 150GB a month to play with based on my typical usage. So that's what 5GB a day...I'd love to break that down into "oh 5GB will give me x hours of Netflix a day on one screen"
