The Playstation flash sales are digital gaming done right.

You have low cost, alot of the games can be played on multiple systems. As a ps3,vita and ps4 owner this is magnificent for me. With lots of classic games and indie type games costing a dollar or less I have no problem at all with digital gaming. In the flash sale I bought 10 games. With Sony having multiple systems aka the playstation family it just feels right. I'll never gaming digitally with higher priced releases but these flash sales provide the perfect price point where I don't feel it's risky. because even if someday i lose the games they only cost 1 dollar or less each. I actually don't even bother with PS+ as I find these flash sales are generally a better value where i can pick games i actually want for less than 50 per year that PS+ is :) My vita is getting all kinds of playtime at work.

Sometimes I actually feel BAD because I'm getting so many games at such low prices.

I have 53 games (that I have never played before) on my Vita and I've only had it since Christmas.

I'll echo a sentiment I heard on Giant Bomb: It's nice to see console digital marketplaces start to reach the level of Steam's sales in terms of pricing.

my steam games can be played on just about any pc i own and i'm sharing my account with my brother, who is also sharing his.

but yeah, those flash sales are what people should expect from time to time from digital. If i'm sacrificing the physical value of a game then you have to make the digital purchase more appealing, especially if you're going to continue to remove/omit backwards compatibility in any future hardware.

I agree. They are steam like in their discounts and are fun random surprises. Although I though because of this thread we had another flash sale :(

But I don't think they've ever done back to back weeks

It's great but I always worry that sales that are TOO frequent and where the prices go TOO low actually devalue the games.

Just wish they'd include more new-ish releases more consistently. Not expecting fire sale pricing, but 30-50% off would be nice.

Not really because the selection is usually quite narrow and often the same stuff goes on Flash sale over and over. They're making nearly no effort to spotlight older games and lesser known indie games. Steam does it actually right with their daily deals. Sony does better than other console makers but certainly not best or as well as they could.

This may be due to publisher resistance, I'm not sure but having Atlus games go one sale over and over again is not really ideal. I love Atlus nothing wrong with that but sales need diversity.

To me this is kind of a weird way to look at it, where they're so cheap if you lost access, it wouldn't be a huge loss.

Consider the point in time where you would lose access to a digital $60 game you purchased today, how much would that game actually be worth at the point you lost access? I'm guessing like $10 or less (in console digital pricing, you can get used original xbox games for the cost of shipping on amazon).

yeah man PC has been doing this for years.
but the playstation family also has the vita which adds portability to these great deals which is something PC can't do. But bottom line steam sales and PS flash sales are how digital gaming should be.

eventuall they need to do big releases at low prices too. i'm pretty much done paying more than 30 dollars for games unless they are final fantasy, Xenoblade x, etc..

I feel the same way, picking up surgeon simulator for .91 was ridiculous

At least at the time, after "playing" it and its awful controls I now feel a little better

The last one was fucking criminal. And worse: I forgot to actually pay for my cart, so I didn't get anything. I had Dino Crisis 2, Katamari, Zombie Nation, Tekken 2, Twisted Metal and one other...just over six dollars. SIX.

PC has had sales like this for the last 7-8 years and it's stronger than ever. Even more frequently since you have competing stores trying to sell you steam keys and all have their own promotions.

I definitely love it. Plus the promotions every few months where if you spend a certain amount you get some credit back. The only thing that's missing is for digital games to decrease in value at a more reasonable pace. The disparity between buying a physical copy of a year old game and a digital copy is sometimes $20+.

they do need to work on that. i'm not comfortable with digital gaming big titles unless they are priced accordingly.

i can buy the order 1886 for 39.99 brnad new and it's still 59.99 on the store. makes zero sense. start pricing digital lower than physical by at least 10%

Idk personally I (90% of the time) won't buy PC games anymore unless they are $20 or less (for big games) and $5 or less for non-AAA games. It may just be me though and not actually a symptom of a larger problem.

Makes me buy games that I never end up touching. I literally have bought 10 PSone RPGs that I paid $1-5 for, to which I've never even fired up half of them.

The worst was when they were giving away 3 free PSone games on Playstation Home. I had to re-install Home, enter it, endure the clunkiness for an hour while I follow guide to get the 3 games. I then proceeded to never play, or even turn on any of those games. Stupid brain.

Sure, it sounds good.
But do you actually play them though?

I spent $10 on the last $1.00 sale, but wow, I didn't feel like playing them at all.
Now, these games are just making my download list even worse.
I can barely find anything on it without searching through a sea of endless pages.

It is a Catch-22 for me right now, should I buy more games to play it sometime in the future and fucking up my list or should I leave it along since I won't play it either way?

Absolutely, and I think Sony deserves some credit here. Yes, I know STEAM sales are a thing, and so is GMG, et al., but Sony really has done an exceptional job this gen all around.

6 great games for less you'd spend at a fast food joint @_@

I got Breath of fire 4, Wild arms 1+2 , dino crisis 1+2, twisted metal. 2 of the mega man X games, and who wants to be a millionaire all for like 8.50. sickening deal and most of those can be played on ps3 and vita. Vita is a beast for classic games

Tbh, this is the first time I heard someone said games would have less value if they become too cheap.

He basically means when people say, "Oh, I wan't that game but I'll wait for it to goes in a Steam Sale" or the popular, "I bet that will be on PS+ so I'll wait."

Yup.

I really wish the XB1 and Wii U had them, too.

So strong that I completely stoped buying games on release and allways buy a humble bundle it something

Outside of Blizzard games, PC games have no value for me

I'm the same way. But I'm confused, are you actually saying you'd rather be paying more for games?

That's fine, but the numbers suggest PC market is doing great and pulling in lots of money. I'm gonna pay $50+ for GTAV myself. I guess you can wait for that rockstar humble bundle tho.

I guess I should have used the word perceived value.

To give a quick example no one bats an eye at a $60 Nintendo game but even a game that matched it in quality and content point for point no one would pay $60 for it on a phone.

I'm the same way. But I'm confused, are you actually saying you'd rather be paying more for games?

It's not that I'de rather pay more I just feels like it devalues the games like people think they are worth less.

I had bought Breath of Fire IV, Mega Man X4/5, Klonoa, Katamari Damacy, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, Gravity Rush, for all a dollar a pop or less each.

Even I had to go "WTF?!"

The sad thing is, my PS3 is dead so can't play PS1/PS2 digital games, and I don't have a Vita yet to play the PSone classics or Gravity Rush. Hell the only thing stopping my from buying Wild Arms 1/2, Dino Crisis 1/2, was I remembered I had already bought them in a previous sale!

You don't realise that deep discounts make games disposable? Why pay 70$ cnd for GTA V when I know it will be 15$ or less come the winter sale? If I could resell it, sure, why not, but I can't. So bargain bin prices it is

On the other hand, I buy plenty of 40+$ console games (xbone/PS3/ps4/vita/3Ds/wii and so in) without batting an eye

Doesn't really matter though when you can very easily set up a US PSN account and buy a PSN code off of Amazon.com.

The problem is the PSX/Vita sales... 'cause the vita isn't that multi account friendly and is a pain in the ass to swap accounts...

Curious how you feel about PS+ then. Every highly regarded indie game that comes to PS systems has people flooding the thread with posts like "looks great, can't wait for it to come to PS+".

I have a million games because of these flash sales, yeah it's true you may not play them all, but at $1, $5 and $10, the deals are too good to pass on. I'm glad I have the entire final fantasy series as an example and I can play these on many devices as the op mentioned. But yeah, these flash sales and ps plus sales are the best deals I've seen in gaming.
