Wii U Owners: If a Nintendo console released next year, would you consider it?

I want to say no.

But if Nintendo does the opposite of the Wii U's launch (great first and third party, big harddrives, games tied to account etc) day 1

They've earned A LOT of goodwill from me with the Wii U and 3DS so I have confidence in them and will probably end up buying whatever they release next on day one unless I really don't like something specific about it.

WHAT? Games are to tied to accounts which is the NNID. But the problem is the NNID is tied to the console, not the games.

Personally, of course, I would consider. It's almost all I play. However, probably not day 1 though.

I would more than likely buy Nintendo's Wii U replacement whatever it is if it was released next year though, as always, I will wait and make sure it has something I want to play first.

I think it's funny how I have to state that last part but lately the trend, seemingly, is to jump right in.

Nah. I for one don't have the cash and for two mostly bought it to play smash bros with people.

I would wait for smash this time and focus on my backlog, because I'm just now making it through Hyrule Warriors.

I was as hardcore-Nintendo as they come but they really did their best to shit all up and down that goodwill this gen. I can't fathom what they could pull off to make me want another Nintendo system so soon.

Yup. At this point I'll buy anything they put out (within reason). I am to horoughly impressed with the Wii U and 3DS' incredible turn arounds.

After the god awful Wii U and 3DS launches, I'd be shocked if I bought another Nintendo console at launch. Those were just such bad launches, it'd need to have a great launch lineup for me to forget about that.

I'm not a Wii U owner and don't plan on it really. But given the right price point, hardware, games, and ideally some BC, I would love another console.

I'll buy it if it's over $300 day 1. Sub $300 no dice. The wiiu was underpowered for my tastes and the controller was undercooked at best. Id like a strong launch game and stronger console. Something that matches at minimum the ps4 if not a little better on the power level.

I buy every console. I have never felt ripped off buying a console yet but if the new Nintendo comes out next year that will change.

Most likely not. Maybe in a couple years when it's discounted and there is some semblance of a good games library (which we all know won't be there at launch).

I think I'd be fine with PC and PS4 with my 3DS and Wii U as complementary consoles to give me that "Nintendo fix".

I probably won't buy it on day one. I never do. However, I will probably be a fairly early adopter. I love my Wii U and I'm totally happy with its current library.

Of course they will. I know I am.

Where else are people gonna get console Nintendo game fix? They can claim how "betrayed" they feel with Nintendo releasing another console "sooner" than some expected. Even scream and try to convince themselves that they won't buy a Nintendo console ever again, but once they see the next Direct with all those launch titles like Zelda, Metroid, new Mario game (Galaxy 3? XD), as well as any console features, much better hardware, they will come charging back like a swarm of hungry bees.

If it's a home console strong enough to get the latest third party games, yes I would buy it day one. The only reason I got the wiiU was that my PC was(and still is) powerful enough to play all the non-nintendo games I want.

As long as I have my requirements met. Five or more games I really want to play, has reached a price I deem worth it in value, and does not bother me in some massive way (controls I can't use, Always Online Required, no physical media, etc.) that keeps me from wishing to support it.

I've enjoyed ever Nintendo console I've ever owned, I enjoy various properties we are sure to get as well as anything original (e.g. Pikmin on Gamecube, Pushmo on 3DS, Xenoblade on Wii, Splatoon on Wii U, etc).

Will I get it right away after DS, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U? Nay. I can wait.

Nope, already waited about half a year after Wii U launch to buy the system, and the console is still getting lots of great games this year (and next year) and I have yet to buy many of its older great games. And I have about 45 games for the console, so it's not like I haven't bought many games already.

There's no reason to buy consoles day one, and same goes for games. So I woul wait at least a year before buying the new console.

Definitely not at launch, maybe down the line. Bought my Wii U a little under a year ago at this point so not really looking to upgrade from it within the next couple years.

Yes I'd definitely consider it. If it had games that I want to play and if it continued the novelty of playing console games while laying down on my bed, then I'd bring the console home on the first day of release.

Honestly though, I don't really believe that Nintendo would be releasing a new console soon. At least not til 2017.

If it was a standard console with standard controllers, yes. I've owned the last three, but I really could have don without the Wii and Wiii U. The controllers kind of ruined them for me.

So if we could get a Mario, Zelda, and the rest with regular controllers, yes,

I'd buy it. I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I love their games. My WiiU was "worth it" by the time I finished Pikmin 3 and it has only provided more great games since then.

I think the only way I could be dissuaded is if Nintendo quickly released a few failure consoles in a row AND demonstrated that they could no longer make enough games that I enjoy.

I'm not expecting a new console to come out until 2017, and I think it is more likely going to be a 3DS successor than a Wii U successor. That being said, I never buy consoles day 1. I usually give them at least a year to get a few games I actually want first. So, I have no plans on buying a new console at release anytime soon.

I don't expect this to happen at all, but if it ended up coming out in late 2016, I'd buy it with a smile. That would be four years between consoles, and I'm fine with that.

If I was still financially fucked like I was at the Wii U launch, I would hold off like I did there. Since am not currently financially fucked and I (hopefully) won't be in 2016/17, then yeah, I've no problem. I'll be there day 1 like the hopeless fanboy I am.

ill get it, I love gaming and new systems always seem to renew my love for gaming. Nothing like that new console smell.

No. Took awhile for wii u to have anything and still is lacking quite a bit.

Pretty much this. Nintendo has just started to really support the console. There are still games coming this year and next. To say good bye so soon is just unreasonable. At the very least I'd say the console has at least another 2 years.

With that said, I'd wait until the new console was discounted for a price I would hop on and had appealing games. I've owned 8 consoles in my gaming time; and the first time I early adopted was during the era of the Game Boy Color. My mother bought me the Special Pikachu Edition (after nagging her non-stop) and the other time was with the PS4. BOTH had games I wanted to play off the bat. If Nintendo is going to do something so drastic, they'd need some heavy hitters to sell the console at launch.

I'd only buy a new Nintendo console if I had to for a specific exclusive game: something like Bayonetta 3. I don't care enough about Nintendo's first party stuff to bother otherwise. My WiiU is a Bayonetta/Wonderful 101 box, and I bought it knowing there may be no other games on the system that interest me. Even if the NX hardware is amazing, I would have no interest paying for potential alone. It's not like a PS4, which I needed to buy simply to continue playing mainstream console games.

Aside from the first-party games, I want to know what this system can do that my PS4, Xbox One, and PC can't. ....Because I thoroughly expect third-party publishers to be a no-show, at least at launch.

I just can't continue justifying paying $300-$400 for a console that I will only use to play 3 or 4 games a year. (any may not finish those, at that.) I can't keep buying these systems just for Mario/Zelda/Smash/Kart ...and keep hoping I'll be able to purchase Metroid/Star Fox/newIP.

There's only one of me and there are many, many games available on other platforms.

I'm don't necessarily have an attachment to Nintendo's franchises. I bought Wii U (edit:) last year for MK8, and picked up some other gems too, so I like their games enough, but I'm far from a fanboy.

So with that said, I'd consider a new console as early next year. But as I've always done with Nintendo's consoles, I'll probably not buy it the first couple of years. The Zelda delay, the NX rumours, whatever else now, will have nothing to do with whether I buy a Nintendo console in the future.

In all honesty, it's the last couple of shakey launches of the Wii U and 3DS, that'll more likely influence my initial purchasing.

Yup. My mistake, thanks for correcting.

Day 1 for me, honestly, would rely solely on what games would be available on day 1

Depends if it is gimmick heavy or a spec'd gaming machine. It's also going to depend on it's launch lineup and if they have added key network features like trophies and a unified online account.

My dream Nintendo console would be a small component that contains the brains of the console that would be more powerful than the PS4 that could be transferred into a watch/handheld/console like docking stations and all games would be compatible on whatever device the brain component was plugged into. For instance WiiFit when ran on the watch would function like a fitbit, and when played on the console would work more traditionally with the balance board. Nintendo network would have trophies and a unified account that could be accessed on all devices the brain was plugged into.

Nah, I'd wait some years like I did with the WiiU. Nintendo consoles are the only ones I don't mind being a gen behind on.

No, it's been barely over a year since I got the U, if Nintendo drops it and releases their next console next year, I think I'm done with them.

I'd rather they just start releasing games on the PS4.

If the new console had a gamepad that was sold separately
If the new console had an ethernet port
If the new console had a messaging system that had on screen notifications, inbox, outbox, party chat, public chat, private chat, during the game, during the lobby, during everything

Then yes

Wii U Owners: If a Nintendo console released next year, would you consider it?

Reason I create this thread is because many post about the risk Nintendo runs in losing their hardcore fans if they were to release a console without the Wii U seeing mass market success.

Yeah......i think that ship has already sailed. Sadly.

Well...considering the 3DS has a higher chance of getting the new hardware, and the fact that it looked like the NX would be something different than a handheld or console, AND the fact that we know that the NX won't get details until 2016 (if it isn't delayed), AND the fact the we know absolutely nothing about the NX and everything is just baseless speculation and NOT FACT, I don't see them releasing a console next year anyways so what's the big deal with this thread?

Definitely not on day one. Maybe a year or two after it was out and the catalog of games was built up some, but then again, that would be a pretty big maybe. Might just pass on it altogether.
