Kojima following up the video with two pieces of information. After a certain point in the game you can choose to join solo-focused squads or multiplayer-focused ones, and you can also join squads that your friends are in.

While online, you can pay a fixed in-game fee to switch between Unions, so you can jump ship to the ones that are doing well, or stay and help out the one you're already in. That also affects your Union Salary that you get once per day(including things like Doll Insurance tickets), so he suggests try different things out.

[Kojima] Two more bits of information relating to the 'Doll/Network' video presentation. You can join Squads once you've reached a certain point in the game. You can choose from Solo Play and Multi-Play. You can also join Squads that your friends are in.

While online, the Player can change the Union they belong to by paying a set fee (using in-game currency). You can be calculating and switch to a Union with good results or you can help raise the rank of the Union you're already in.

The Union you belong to affects the contents of the Union Salary, which you receive once per day, (which can include repair tickets [possible that they mean 'coupons'] for Dolls that have exceed their insurance limit) so it's a good idea to try various ones out.

So much fucking shit in this game, I love it.

The devs most've sold their soles to the Devil. How the hell did they pack so much content into a game without working 24/7? I'm worried I'll never see half of all the game has to offer. With that said, I have the feeling they still haven't revealed everything so who knows what else there is to be discovered.

I understand why we don't have a release date over on this side of the ocean yet. Jesus, that has to be a ton of work to translate.

Let's hope the SP story is as meaty as Xenoblade. I don't feel the lack of info about it.

Given what they've shown, I have a very hard time believing this game's story will be anywhere near as good, or lengthy, as XBC's was. I expect it will be an awesome game, but it sure seems like story is taking a back seat to the rest of this stuff, unless they really are intentionally hiding the vast majority of it.

Up until January we didn't even know (for sure) if there was any online component to the game. Now look.

Seriously, why are you guys worried about story still?

Why should they show too much of the story now? They've given us the premise, the full story should be discovered playing there game. We already had some hints anyway.

Sometimes this forum seems more like a support group for concerned people than a forum of passionate ones. Is a video lacking some info about something? For sure that part is botched, although it was not the in the scope of the video.

Ugh. They really are keeping it under wraps. Have you read the short stories? They've stated this game has WAAAY more text than Xenoblade (to the point they brought in an external scripter in addition to their main writer and editor), and they've told us this game is going for a 'deeper sci-fi' compared to Xenoblade, in tone and story depth. The world is already looking to be way more fleshed out and developed, same with the characters.

If you don't see it, it doesn't exist. If they don't repeat everything every time, everyone forgets and thus it doesn't exist. Such is the cycle. :D

Absolutely love the Valley of Oblivion and Land of White Ash overworld themes (assuming those are it if the titles are anything to go by).

The wait for this game will be torturous. ;-;

I thought the specifically said that they were keeping the story a surprise. I mean it's definitely there with the whole, we gotta fend off the aliens, how did we even get to Mira (a planet that was uncharted and similar to the earth in every way), why everything is so overdeveloped here? There is a lot of mysteries to uncover, and as we could see, a lot of events that will move the plot further.
One thing I'm specially curious is that we still didnt see more of the Purple Aliens, the ones with the weird purple mechs that were fighting the Growth. Maybe they will end up helping us? But then why did they pursue us?

I haven't preordered yet cause I have some BB certs along with a discount code.

Anyone think there will be a special edition disc version?

Japan gets an artbook and a map with the console bundle. It's entirely possible they slap something like this together for us with the game instead.

They've been focusing a lot on more MMO/open world quests rather than story mode progression. Sure, there's a story, but some quotes are a bit worrying.
I enjoyed Xenoblade's "linear" progression, just hope it comes out right.

Yes because that is the noteworthy part to be talking about here. Why should they be talking about the story? The story exists for you to experience while playing. All the other stuff is mechanics related and is new stuff to sell people on the game. They've had a story trailer at E3 last year, they've bookended every presentation with another story teaser. We know there is a big conflict brewing with the aliens that chased the humans away from Earth. What more do you need? Do you want them to spoil early game story twists like all the movie trailers do just so we know they are there?

This isn't gonna be Animal Crossing where your authored story happens in the opening moments and then you're left alone to do whatever.

I seriously can't wait to have this game in my hands. I don't think I'm completely understanding how online will work exactly but it's going to be fun to figure things out for myself.

Also I really don't think we should be worrying about the story at this point! There are so many mysteries to be solved based on what glimpses we've gotten - they need to explain who the two enemy factions are, introduce everyone involved, explain why they're at war, why they want to kill humans, build up to and have a conclusion for the war, reveal why Elma/the hero mysteriously disappeared, why Elma reappeared, why the planet appeared out of nowhere, and that's not even getting to things like the girl with clothes completely different from what we've seen.

Xenoblade Chronicles had 10-11 hours of story scenes (cutscene plus spoken text box) and I can't imagine them satisfyingly tieing up all loose ends in significantly less than that amount of time for XCX. Maybe the exact process of proceeding to the next story point will be slightly different but at least we should still get the same amount of time spent in story scenes. Maybe a smaller ratio of story to gameplay though since there's SO MUCH to do.

Guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

this could be more complex and convoluted than xenosaga ever was xD

Well one would hope that it wasn't by putting less focus on other parts of the game. :3

See, this is what you get when you don't waste your time and budget focusing on superfluous things like faces.

Honestly I cringe like hell over people complain about the bad graphics or low quality faces. I would gladly take ps2 graphics if it meant having a big explorable world with a lot of choices that also didn't run like ass. But nope, one blurry texture and people lose their god damn minds.

Takahashi isn't going to let us off without Nietzsche-esque philosophy waxing that easy. Whether we like it or not.

Yeah saying Tetsuya Takahashi game and complex story in the same sentence is just a given.

I find it odd people would be concerned about Xenoblade X not having a proper single player experience considering the director / scenario writer behind the project.

This IS the same guy that directed Xenogears and Xenosaga.

It is a forgone conclusion for Xenoblade X having lengthy single player experience. A multiplayer team mode isn't going to change this.

Yup and I feel like we've gone through this every couple of months. it's weird that there are still people who are worried about something that very clearly isn't gonna be an issue.

The world is filled with people who never made something bad, until they did.

First and foremost I guess I have to say that this game is a day one preorder for me. I just choose to focus on the possible negatives since being wrong about them has no down side. At worst I will have to make a post about being wrong and then get back to enjoying the game. The worries and fears aren't dumb or unfounded though so I am puzzled by the people who act surprised over anyone having something negative to say.

But what we're talking about has nothing to do with something not being good, it's about something not being there. And there has been no reason to assume that something would not be there. Quite the opposite, with the developer's history, comments in interviews and released information everything points to there being a lot of the thing that is being assumed to be absent or barely present. That is the thing tripping me and some others up.

It's subjective, and I am sorry if I don't preface any of my comments or statements about the game with a "in my opinion" to properly indicate that. There have been plenty of times in gaming that the inclusion of multiplayer has been at the determent of singleplayer despite the claims of a developer. Even if that isn't going to be the case here it isn't a strange or farfetched worry to have about the game. The trust I have for Tetsuya Takahashi has already sold me the game, but it doesn't mean I should just ignore the few niggling concerns that I have about some aspects of it.

At this point I think I have gone too meta. I'm now complaining about people not disagreeing with people about gameplay/story concerns, but instead acting like those concerns are unfounded.

The biggest effect multi-player is having on the single player experience is probably the use of the silent, customizable protagonist. I don't think some gameplay mode announced a few weeks before launch is the heavyweight in this case.
