What setup are you running? Also what settings and FPS.

I have a 7970 so I'm curious.

7970 GHZ
i7-4790
8 GB DDR3 RAM

I didn't really change the settings. Only MSAA to 2. The game automatically set most stuff on high or very high.
The game seems to stay at 60fps most of the times, it did drop to 40 during the intro when they blew up the safe.

Maybe I have to drop down the particles setting or maybe Post FX. But overall it seems to perform nicely.

edit: so the game forgot where I was and now I had to play that part again. this time only with FXAA and the FPS didn't drop. rock solid 60 FPS :D

Well I'll be damn... Rockstar actually made a good GTA PC Port!

I'm on a i5-4670k 3.40ghz, 16gb of ram and a 2gb GTX 770.

By default it put it in a mix of high and very high settings.

I ended up jacking everything up to the max (except no MSAA) and textures at High instead of medium and I'm stable between 60 and 70fps.

Also I'm totally busting the video card memory limit but whatever, the game is smooth!

I'm running Gsync so I don't think DSR is supported yet with SLI and Gysnc at the same time. This what you looking for?
KCxB9LG

DSR is not supported yet with SLI regardless of Gsync. I've been downsampling by manually changing refresh timing.

2 questions. I have everything at very high, using gtx980.

  1. i have half of my alloted 4 GB vid ram used. should I keep raising things until i get close to the 4GB limit?
  2. should FXAA be on along with MSAA?

Keep raising your settings until the framerate drops to something you don''t like, but yeah, leave some VRAM free (I assume that the only settings you havent maxed are MSAA and Refl. MSAA. Usually you want to go for 4x). You can leave FXAA on with MSAA, it'll help eliminate aliasing even more, altough some don't like the blut it introduces, it's a personal preference. Try TXAA too.

If you turn off PCSS, do you reckon you can get a solid 60?

I just set Soft Shadows to lowest settings which is soft and framerate was almost consistently 47-50 FPS with occasional dips to 45-44 and lowest was 37 FPS when cops shot me and wasted screen appeared :)

If anyone has a similar setup to me and could post their benchmark / impressions I would be forever grateful. just got myself Elite: Dangerous and can only justify a further $80 AUD if my rig can run it fairly well since I have it on PS4 anyway...

R9 290 4GB
16GB RAM
i5 3570K (Stock speeds)
250GB Samsung Evo SSD

Thanks :)

Bah, my aging GTX 570 can't really keep up with this game because it's paltry 1.28GB VRAM. Wanted to get PS4/XB1 quality visuals at 1080/60 but that's not possible. :(

can anyone report high refresh rate gsyn/freesync performance?

I'm on gsync/144hz and cut-scenes seem to have minor choppyness, but as soon as I set the monitor to 60hz (real-time, not control panel) the animations smooth out.

It's like they didn't account for higher FPS and the game doesn't like it for cutscenes :/

Oh I get about 140FPS so far in the entry level.

Managed to get it, started the benchmark, benchmark started in sync with a new game story mode, pressed escape to exit the benchmark, it exited the game, can't log in anymore.

I get good performance with everything maxed at 4K (with no MSAA). But if you travel into the forest areas, it drops to like 30ish fps. Also there appears to be a bug in which there is a radius around you that has very sharp shadows.

Pro tip: Drive into grass and start crying.

No wonder they had to cut it back on Xbone, completely tanks performance below 30fps with most settings maxed out.

All settings maxed, except reflections on normal, view distance maxed in both options and some of the other advanced options on.

60-90FPS while driving around the city, up to 100-144FPS indoors.

How's the situation at 30? Can you get a stable framerate with high settings?
I miss my 570 so much right now.

Normal textures shows 4500MB/6000MB used and high textures says 6300/6000 MB used but there is no slowdowns at all driving around the city. Locked 60 fps. Fantastic port.

Note: The game multiplies memory amount in SLI setups, both in used and available.

Game seems to run great performance wise, but is anyone else having an issue where the character you create for GTA Online has lines going around the whole character's body? It appears whilst creating, during cutscenes and when playing the game and it looks really weird. Tried adjusting the graphics settings to no avail. I haven't downloaded the latest nVidia drivers yet, but was kinda hoping there was another fix.

What's the best settings for the Advanced Settings? I tried bringing the sliders down but my setup still lags a bit. Are they even worth using?

Well, just got to the 2nd mission's car chase and it clearly runs better than GTA4 for me. Unless I run into some serious bugs, it seems like a solid port so far.

The only weird thing is that my keyboard types very slowly when the game is minimized. Not just Chrome, it's any program I bring up.

Everything maxed apart from shadows to softest, DoF off and no MSAA. Runs incredibly smooth I don't notice any drops only a few in cutscenes. I'm incredibly happy.

I can't believe this just happened.

  • Deleted Linux from my SSD last night to make room for GTAV.
  • Forgot that Linux's bootloader, grub, overwrites the Windows boot manager.
  • Can't boot into Windows, as the boot manager doesn't exist anymore, or Linux as it doesn't exist at all.
  • Break out my Windows USB stick...forgot I formatted it for something else.
  • Break out my Linux USB stick...download Windows 10 iso and mount to Windows USB stick.
  • Boot into Windows USB stick and repair boot manager.

Not really a big deal, but the download from Microsoft kept flucuaitng down into the KB/s at points, driving my blood pressure through the roof.

Smooth, with no stutter.

Loading times, also, are far better than PS4 version [mechanical HDD]

Beautiful port.

Fuck that

Not really a performance question, but does anyone know if I can grab someones GTA 5 directory that they've downloaded from steam and put it in my Rockstar social club folder so I won't have to download it myself or are the installation files different between the two?

For those crashing, are you aware of the user account bug thats going around? I just know if you have special characters in your windows user account name it fucks things up. Its on the steam page.

I'd honestly like to lock the framerate at 30, because right now it fluctuates between 40-50FPS.

Goddamn it. Why did my card die two weeks before GTA5, why.

To lock the game at 30fps you can download MSI Afterburnen and lock the framerate through the Rivatuner utility.

I love how people report "great performance" without getting into the critical areas.

Still seems like a good port, but I have to find a way to get decent performance in areas with foliage.

edit: You can lock to 30 by using half refresh rate option, it is supported.

i5 3570k, 16gb ram, GTX 770. I can easily get steady 60+ fps @ 1080p. I didn't try to up from default settings, 1,4gb video card memory used. I played for an hour or so. My first impressions: silky smooth, it's a really good port. Benchmark was between 70 and 255fps, but the scenes switched so fast that it was hard to keep track.

Strangely enough the start menu (where you can fiddle with settings) had severe frame issues (~30fps according to steam overlay), even though in-game works perfectly.
