Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Listening to Ep.1 now, they mentioned Chief was 12 when he was still being taught in school and wanted to sign up for boxing? Could've sworn when I read Fall of Reach he was taken by Keyes/Halsey when he was 5-6 right?

As the others said, keep on listening. It gets REALLY interesting.

So I know there are a bunch of novels, FUD, Nightfall and apparently a comic? Is there any other Halo media I'm missing? I desperately want to get caught up on the lore at this point. Haven't been this psyched about a universe since ME.

There's Legends, a series of anime shorts.

Keep lis.. oh, right.

Oh a side note, I'm saddened by the proper use of "Going rogue" these days. I miss the days when everyone was saying "Chief is going rouge!"

A simpler time.

Back on topic.. has there been any hidden info found in the images released? If this was an ARG there'd be something for us to follow up on, but maybe it is just a media campaign?

Listened to all 4 of the episodes now. Can't wait for the game but this seems like pretty standard stuff unless I'm really missing something? It's just detailing Chief's origins as a kid which we mostly know quite a bit about thanks to the books no? Nothing has stood out to me so far at least.

Mostly, I just like that they're really well done. They're also defining the backstory for those out there who never read the books, in addition to setting up some possible other reveals as Ben digs into the coverup.

In addition to that, we never really new the "civilian" side of things. We know the true story but we don't know how people reacted to the fake story. We kind of got a glimpse of that. It's also cool hearing people find out what we already knew and asking questions that were right in front of us but WE never really asked. People know who the Master Chief is. How has no one dug deep into his upbringing. Looks like that finally happening.

Btw, have you seen Halo Legends?(Origins 1-2)

damn, the part in the new hunthetruth ep when the retired ODST said a
12 yo John killed two other ODSTs with songle punches was fucked. i just pictured this creepy man child just mutilating these guys with ease. makes you wonder about this 12 yo version of Johns mental health lol

Nothing yet, but we still have that Star chart that may turn out to be nothing, and the numbers on the glassed planet picture as well as possibly (if they are legit like everyone says) the numbers in both twitter pictures.

It was a honest mistake on his part he was fresh out of augmentation and didn't really know his own strength. Plus as a Spartan he deals with all combat situations lethally.

Didn't the rings
destroy the domain after they were fired so there's nothing to find anymore.

As far as we know. They've suggested the Domain terminals in Halo 4 were essentially "local storage"—so basically the internet's down, and people are stuck with whatever they downloaded.

Plus I assume the Domain was created somehow originally, and it stands to reason it could be recreated at some point correct?

The Neural Physics creations were mostly/all destroyed.. but I'd assume that if someone or something was around to recreate the conditions of their creation.. it could rise again?

Has there been any more "Catalog" updates recently?

Yeah I feel like you would need the master builder and the librarian to replicate it's creation. Maybe we can get to see him in halo 5 if you're right.

I'm pretty sure the Domain was created by the Precursors so you'd probably need one of them to create a new one from scratch. I think the Forerunners just managed to tap into it.

Either way, it would be interesting to see if some of the Domain remained on or near The Ark, as it was outside of the Halo Array's destruction.

Maybe Mendicant Bias has been busy rebuilding it :))

The Librarian learned when she encountered an exiled group of distant Forerunners that the Domain could be accessed/retained by other methods (this group had a sort of biological memory in a bacterial colony). She allowed herself to be physically bitten (and "infected") trying to learn what its significance was.

It's possible that Gabriella and Sarah Palmer are one and the same. Though all we have to go by is that it's the same VA, so far we haven't been given any timeline discrepancies to disprove the theory yet, either.

Actually, I think we have. While the story was BS, Ben was still supposed to believe Gabriella rescued John in 2524. Palmer wasn't born until three years later in 2527. Unless Ben readily believed she spent well over 20 years in cryo, just by a glance her biological age should make her rescuing John seem pretty impossible. So I'm gonna say it's just the same VA.

Plus, Palmer's 6'9", you'd think he would note that. :p

I was listening to her episode again at work today, and there are slight differences to Hale's voice. Almost like an accent. I think it's just a different character with the same voice actor.

Some very good points, but I think Giraud was very clear he only ever saw the ONI logo /insignia on interviews, so he would not have seen the height of Gabriella Dvorak.

A rebuttal to the age thing could be that Palmer is only part of the cover up much later on, playing a role, and of course Ben would know nothing about Palmer to try and make any connection between them (a VA connection is not relevant in the 'real world'.)

He met Gabriella Dvorak in person, on the UNSC Unto The Breach. And I'm not getting your rebuttal to the age thing?

It was
badly damaged/corrupted

The Domain still exists. The Gravemind has access to it, as he reveals to Cortana in Human Weakness. It's not called out by name, but it's still very much intact, in a backup/failsafe sort of sense.

Plus, in the Forerunner novels, we find that connections to a more localized Domain can be created from scratch in the correct conditions.

Whether this can still be done as of the current, or if the Gravemind will relinquish its secrets, remains to be seen.

Unless I'm forgetting specific details from that short story, I was under the impression that the Flood/Gravemind were connected to something similar to the Domain, but not literally the Domain itself. Similarly the Path Kethona Forerunner had a biological analog to the Domain, rather than a novel way of accessing the primary Domain.

Is that with or without armour?

Unknown, but the difference can't be more than a couple inches either way.

Yah that's probably a better way to explain it haha.

Gravemind reveals to Cortana what is essentially a Domain. Whether it is *the* Domain or something parallel or altogether different... Not sure.

Damn, going to have to listen to it again, I missed that!

Cheers!

EDIT - on the age thing I meant that Giraud would have no reason to link Dvorak to Palmer and hence look at her age.

Well, I'm not talking about him actually linking Palmer and Dvorak. :p In order to save John in 2524, Dvorak would have to be at least in her 50's. So my point is that while yes, age can be tough to gauge precisely at a glance sometimes (and with cryo it could be even harder), if someone who's barely 31 walks into a room you could probably guess their age close enough to tell they weren't doing rescue operations 34 years ago. :p

I follow you now! I guess most of what I was meaning was predicated on them not actually meeting face to face - I must have got mixed up with the Sully interviews or other ones.

Hahah, yeah, I get that. I've been mixed up a few times myself so far actually, so I've had to relisten to the episodes a few times now just to keep everything straight. :p I imagine by the end of this I'll have listened to a few of these a tad too many times haha.

The thing is, spending a lot of time in the Navy it'd be possible to rack up... not 20 years, but maybe 5-10? Enough to pass her off as extremely well preserved rather than freakishly young-looking.

Is the target audience for hunt the truth non halo fans? The Fall of Reach came out about 13,5 years ago and told us everything about the the Spartan-II Project. They should tell us more about that chief is a traitor thing in Hunt the Truth, Halo fans already know who John is for over a decade now...

My theory is that they're setting it up; by having Ben "discover" the truth about the Chief, he'll be much more inclined to trust whatever other information he comes across, which makes it much easier for ONI to indirectly feed him misinformation and convince him that the Chief is a traitor.

Really liking where this is heading, great stuff.

I hope Locke appears at some point, it would be interesting to hear his pre-Halo 5 viewpoint.

Of course it's just the beginning, 9 episodes to come. Bring back that fight with the ODSTs was cool, but I hope they will get to the point where Ben is not researching the history but the current events soon.

These are definitely pretty well done, but Im waiting for new information to come out during these tales. Nice call backs, but I really wanna see what we're in for come this fall!

It's never been confirmed that the Domain is where the Gravemind consciousness exists. If anything, you could present a strong case from the Forerunner trilogy and from things like the Datapads that it exists inside of slipspace.
