It's just pandering bullshit. She never acts like this anywhere else in the game.
its a romance arc though? of course she acts different there, everyone does in game (and IRL)

Of course she isnt going to just show up wearing the girls uniform randomly and be like "hey everyone im fully comfortable like this" it was something intimate for her

And even without the romance arc she still builds in her social link towards taking charge of her position while being a woman and not hiding it, which is why we get this:

There's a difference between that totally normal everyday outfit and dumb "~my girl uniform is only for you~" shit.

And nah, not everyone acts so totally differently in their romance arcs.

Do you think it's not possible that the female uniform is the only feminine outfit she actually owns? :p

sorry, everyone besides Rise

Unless I'm mistaken, Naoto changes specifically for Yu's approval as opposed to her own desire to grow as a person, which I can't say about the other romances (or any other s-link, for that matter).

EDIT:
Thats exactly what Naoto is trying to figure out though

I think this line is what really brings it all together

I felt like the whole SLink was building up to that
I was about to give props to Atlus for noting how that scene could have been taken.
Then, the second screenshot just oozes wrong all over again...

The romance routes in P4 all have varying degrees of unnaturalness to them, but Naoto's is the worst, by far. She basically turns into a shrinking violet, and loses all aspects of her character that made her interesting in the first place. It's pretty obvious they were trying to pander to a certain demographic by doing that. Oh and it's still creepy how you manipulate her into wearing clothes she's not comfortable with, just so she can please you.

Saying that no one else does what Naoto does on the christmas event is kind of missing the point of having different characters in these scenes in the first place. Naoto's problems are different than Chie's, or Yukiko's, or Rise's. It's not hard to imagine someone with Naoto's issues actually trying to tackle her problems as she did, even on the christmas scene. Why I have a hard time applying the idea of "pandering" to that.

The shrinking violet thing isn't specific to the romantic route though, it's ANY route that requires any kind of socializing, which is another one of her issues in the first place. She's like this to a degree the first time the IT asks her to go out on her first day of school, she's like this when they invite her upstairs to the VIP lounge, etc.

By being in a romantic situation in any facet, she's GOING to become that as such things are completely alien to her. Now, if you want to argue that she probably shouldn't have been an option for a romantic route in the first place, that'd make sense.

that never happened...you say you prefer she doesnt deepen her voice, and she decides to wear the girls uniform

lol this scene. Begging the player to be her knight in shining armor.

Change yourself for me. /kennypowers

watch the scene, the line is preceeded by an "I think..." Naoto was pretty clear in her SLink and romance SLink that she wasnt very confident in her personal life. In her romance route she looks to Yu to help with those answers
As yu then you get the option of being an asshole or not

Never clicked the middle option, it should end the romance but im sure it doesnt

I don't recall that being the case at all. In fact, she came across as standoffish during those encounters you mentioned. Unless you're implying that she was like this during the instances you mentioned.

In the Japanese version, you ask her to stop using male pronouns (with the strong implication that you don't want her to act masculine). That's manipulation bud.

EDIT: Correction, she wonders if she should start using male pronouns. If you say yes, she does so and rest is history. It's not direct manipulation, but...

It's still implying that she's putting Yu's preferences above her own when it comes to her own life.

yea, thats exactly what shes doing...thats why I like that scene, and her reaction when you say shes fine, you dont need to change for me

EDIT: It doesnt seem like something someone that pretended they were a different gender just for the approval of their peers would do?

Ah, so you like the feeling that she's hanging on your every word?
I like that it showed how Naoto was feeling and showed clear development in a way that made sense. I like that I had the opportunity to tell her to not worry about my approval and just be yourself.

It fit her personality and character growth, Naoto was exactly the character that would look in a relationship for answers. I like that you have the option of passing that burden back onto her.

Naoto's romance arc always did feel weird to me. But ah well.... everyone knows that Yu/
Yosuke
is the one true pairing of Persona 4. They make a great couple, far more than any other romance except maybe Rise's

I actually found Yosuke annoying for like 90% of P4G. By the time I maxed his social link and beat the game I found him a bit more tolerable though. Not sure if I'm alone in this sentiment. And I liked Rise's tbh :)

I like Yosuke. Early game hes your average teenager bro, but by the end of the game, despite what hes been through, despite having friends that constantly making fun of him, and despite having friends rob him all the time, he would still take a bullet for them. Dudes a trooper

I thought the idea was to pander? Like, she dressed that way cuz she thought you'd like it?

I just hate that I gotta choose Naoto to get a female school uniform for Naoto, dangit.

I didn't think Naoto's romance route was as bad as some here but the girl uniform scene and how you get it is not good.

But really, I just don't think she wears the girl's uniform well at all. Her epilogue design is great, but she seriously can't wear the girl's uniform.

Honestly think the female Gekkoukan uniform looks better on Naoto than the female Yasogami one.

Part of the reason why the epilogue design looks good on her is because it fits her style, and the female Yasogami uniform doesn't.

I definitely didn't like that to initiate the naoto romance route you have to pick some choices I find... really iffy.

Generally though I've just been disappointed with how kanji's and naoto's arc resolved and the way they intertwined together. Though they ended up being my two favourite characters of the entire series and I think the way their arcs resolved was perfectly fine. Could have been so much better with more impact though.

Their collective arc resolved in that it didn't, yes?
(Not talking about their individual arcs, I mean that dynamic Atlus keeps poking like an open wound)

More like how one affects the other character.

Like, I'm not even one of those people that go "They fucked kanji up by not making him gay" but the whole "make me a man" kind of thing that transpired after naoto's reveal was just... blegh.

Also why I really disliked yosuke.

I don't think she wears the male uniform well either.

Her best design is the winter casual, the one she makes her first appearance in.

They kept her in this instead of putting her in uniform for Arena. Is this how she was originally designed? She doesn't have her own spin on wearing the uniform like Kanji, the MC or Yosuke.

No actually, Naoto's concept artwork in the book shows her in the school uniform (sans hat), a business outfit with suspenders and a tie, and a casual outfit. Her outfit in the image you linked does not appear in the concept arts at all.

Personally I've recently come to the conclusion that the outfit you're referring to is a little too cartoonish for my tastes, especially the jacket.

Also, Naoto does customize her uniform. She adds a key chain and pulls up the sleeves on her pants a little.

Apparently it was Nich's last day at work.

One of your first work that I came across was probably Radiant Historia, and I really loved the writing in it.

We are gonna miss you Nich, all the best at wherever you end up at next!

Hopefully he got to work on P5 before leaving. Guessing he's onto bigger and better things(or maybe he really just wasn't digging all the, uh, underwhelming stuff the company's been working on).

The actual secret best relationship in Persona 4 is
Rise x Kanji.
Yukiko even points it out in Q.

disagree

Kanji and Rise are often seen together due to being in the same grade yet Kanji not feeling awkward around her like he does Naoto. I can easily see why they would point that out and especially why Yukiko would make note of it.

Nah, she wears the male uniform well. She has her own spin on it, but it's more subdued than the others--rolled up pants, platform shoes, open collar. It's not the most exciting of her designs, but it's also not flat out unflattering like her female uniform is.

Naoto putting on a skirt because she thinks Narukami will like it is no way near as problematic as some of you are making out.

"BUT IT'S NOT WHAT SHE'D NORMALLY WEAR"

Yes dear, that's the point.

PQ doesn't push Kanji and Naoto at all. Nothing does. Just the fanbase.

EDIT: Also her tartan midwinter jacket is the bessssst.

Kanji has a crush on Naoto, but the idea is he gets along really well with Rise and spends time with her off screen. Whenever the gang hangs out in P4, Rise and Kanji tend to show up together (Chie and Yukiko and Yosuke and Teddie do this too, since Chie and Yukiko are best friends and Teddie is Yosuke's dog/little brother).

Likewise, Rise is usually the one who contacts Kanji for stuff. Part of it is because they're first years, so they have like, shared classes or homework and such, but like, she also lives five minutes from his house.

It's not like oh my gosh Rise and Kanji have a deep, meaningful relationship and you assholes don't even KNOW but it's just a funny thing that seems to happen mostly off-screen and demonstrates that the cast have lives outside of Senpai. Yukiko suggesting they should be an item was just kinda hilarious.

One of those he likes this girl but this other girl has way better chemistry with him kinda things.
