Will we ever see Marvel games with the quality of the Arkham games ?

Seriously, Marvel is doing such a great job with their movies and universe and they're making a ton of money, but all the games we get is licenced shit.

Will we see good games from Marvel and what would you like to see in the future.

ALSO, DC is not better. Besides Batman, they have nothing. Get your shit together and give us an open world superman game.

Your opinions, GAF ?

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
We almost had a team ninja developed story driven Marvel fighting game a la Injustice. Sad it got killed.

Disney seems content to work mostly outside of the AAA space. So many Marvel mobile and f2p games. I know a guy who's poor af but managed to spend 10k on Marvel: Avengers Alliance.

Disney seems to be pretty controlling of their IPs (and thus Marvel's) in the video game space. So unless that changes, probably not. Disney themselves don't seem interested in making a "AAA" "hardcore" game.

I'd argue that there have been great Marvel games before. They're just in a slump right now. In fact, before the Arkham games, I would have said that Marvel's games were much better than DC's, and it wasn't even close.

Well, they need to focus on a Superhero with no superhuman abilities to make it as good as Arkham games. Batman works for Rocksteady because it is grounded to Batman's reality that he just don't use lasers and super speed to overpower enemies.

So, a Daredevil game made by Rocksteady could work for Marvel.

I think DC has an advantage with being owned by a company invested in the video game space. Until Disney decides they want a bigger piece of that pie, I would not bet on it.

Isn't the Diablo clone supposed to be really good?

Marvel Heroes, and yeah it has a good reputation. I liked it but I got caught up with other games.

Other Marvel game classics include Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, The X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, and let's not forget the entire line of Capcom fighting games.

At the moment, the last major Marvel game that wasn't mobile was Lego and the next one will be... Lego... so they don't seem to be wanting to dip their toe in (I guess there was Disney Infinity too, but that was a split focus at best). Which is crazy given how hard they're going on more standard media and how much success they're finding.

Spider gwen by platinum would be a dream come true but if plot is actually going to be of any importance at all, marvel should write it and just leave P* in charge of gameplay, I love them to bits but I wouldnt be able to recommend any of their games for a gripping storyline

Actually Wonderful 101 would be the exception here the writing in that was hilarious at times

That's what I am saying, DC isn't great besides Batman, which is a huge waste.

And Disney made really awesome games back in the super nintendo days.

Marvel Heroes is the closest you're going to get. AAA is risky as shit right now, especially so in the licenced space. The Arkham series was lucky it was greenlit when it did, since I doubt it would ever get made in 2015 if it wasn't already an established franchise.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

But don't they own Star Wars.

WB has a very different strategy from the usual way these companies handle licensed video games. They are very conscious about cultivating their licensed IPs as more or less their own game franchises/brands as something unique to that space without living under the shadow of the original IPs. You'll notice for example how they've been very careful about not marketing Shadow of Mordor as being a LotR title. Anyone else would probably think you'd be insane to not utilize that as leverage.

Disney on the other hand seem to be just fine with the lowest common denominator type of licensing.

Everyone's forgetting Disney signed up EA to develop AAA Star Wars games. They can do the same for Marvel at any time, and I suspect they will sooner or later. I'd imagine Activision would be the natural pick given their history, unless they want to further cement their relationship with and empower EA.

Don't ask Rocksteady or Neatherrealm to touch Marvel though, they are owned by DC's parent company Time Warner. Say what you will about WB's work in the movie space, they are light years ahead of Marvel in game development.

But don't they own Star Wars.

The only AAA Star Wars game is a multiplayer FPS building on an already established FPS franchise. It's the safest safe move in the history of being safe.

Action games are infinitely riskier, which is why you're not only not going to see a Marvel game, but also stuff like 1313.

Activision would be the worst. They treat licensed games like absolute shit.

I'd imagine EA had already been in discussions with Lucasarts before the buyout.

I sort of feel that first Arkham game was a fluke. No one expects good license games, but a few shine through, like Butchers Bay and that Hulk game. There were lots of shit DC games before Arkham, and there will be more in the future.

Also Lego Marvel Super Heroes is not only the best Marvel game but the best Lego game to boot.

Yeah, that's the one I had in mind, it always seems to be overlooked in these conversations because it's not on consoles.

I loved the XML and UA series though.

There is a Star Wars action game in development right now at Visceral though. And I would be shocked if we don't see a spiritual successor to Kotor within a few years.

How quickly the Marvel vs. Capcom series is forgotten.
Those games are pretty divisive. As far as production values they were decently put together, considering they were reusing sprites from other series, until MvC2 which was a weak effort. MvC3 looks nice though.

Disney has very little interest in big-budget game development.

Marvel Heroes is neat but that's about the only thing I can think of.

God dammit. I was better of not knowing this. Although post-Itagaki Team Ninja hasn't been that great.

Hopefully.

I've already said this; not the biggest superhero fan (template for most superhero movies is really cookie-cutter imo), but I'd definitely play a good Spider-Man or Iron Man game by Sucker Punch or another great AAA studio with a good track record. Lots of possibilities for fun gameplay mechanics with those superpowers.

By the way can't Sony Pictures Entertainment give Sony Computer Entertainment the license for Spider-Man games based on the movies (tie-ins basically)? Or do they need to have another license for games based on Spider-Man seperate from the movie licenses?

Considering Disney closed down Lucasarts, it doesn't seem like Disney is eager to venture into AAA games development and publishing too much.

I wonder why Disney closed Lucasarts by the way, couldn't they have integrated Lucasarts into Disney Interactive Studios to have an expansive video game publishing division where they have creative control?
