Man that was some of the worst defense I've ever seen in the playoffs during the 3rd quarter. George Karl is fool's gold. Why does he keep getting hired?

Nah it was actually alright defense. They double-teamed Kobe and Pau constantly to make other guys hit shots. Unfortunately for Denver, they did..

That double-team strategy just killed them though and they kept doing it in the 4th. Even JVG was ripping the strategy. Pau was just freelancin'.

Because his teams win. That's more than a lot of coaches can say.

George Karl is similar to Flip Saunders though. They're great at taking teams up to a certain level, but can never get over the hump. But you have to cut Karl some slack. Aside from the choke job the Sonics had against the Nuggets in '94, I don't think his teams have ever really underperformed. The Sonics lost to the Bulls in the Finals just like all the other teams did in the '90s. The Bucks never had much talent outside of Ray. And the Nuggets were always the lower seed with their first round exits and were in a tough conference.

I think more often than not, George Karl does well with what he's got.

The bigger criticism of Karl should be that they had no backup plan. It's like they just expected the Lakers supporting cast to fold on the road. Not a bad gamble but there should be a plan B lol

The Bucks never had much talent outside of Ray

Ray Allen, Sam Cassell, Glenn Robinson and Tim Thomas were at or around their primes on that team. They SHOULD have beat the Sixers in 2001

- 2-1 lead and lost gm 4 at home
- Lost gm 5 by a point and AI only had 15

AI had a legendary gm 7 but the Sixers had no business winning that series IMO...

Oh definitely. He's better than Flip, but players tune him out when shit gets bad, then he overstays his welcome long after the players are deaf to him.

edit: Oh and let's not forget the '95 choke job when Van Exel lit up the Sonics in the 1st round.

holy shit that's Skip's real twitter?

I'm going to constantly be refreshing that during the game tonight, this will be hilarious especially if the Magic win :lol

I've finally figured out what I've been trying to say about the Cavs offense.

We lack that second player who can demand a double team. Look at the Final Four: LA ha Kobe/Pau, Denver has Chauncey/Carmelo/Earl, Orlando has Dwight/Hedo, while Cleveland only has Lebron.

If Mo can play like he did in the regular season then he's your Robin.

What else can you do? It is the right strategy to double Kobe and Pau whenever they get the ball.

The problem was they were lazy in their doubles and their rotations were never on the same page.

But they were just fine with one-on-one D earlier in the series, then they switch to double-teaming and open up all kinds of shit for the pass-happy Lakers. It's like Birdman and the front line completely disappeared. I still think it was a really odd strategy in an elimination game.

Orlando also has Lewis, so really they have several guys you can't leave open, and 3 guys you want to double when they have the ball. The Cavs have misspent their money, though. I mean they've given out a huge contract to Z, overpaid for Larry Hughes, have Ben Wallace's contract, and they still have to pay Lebron. I know people have already said "if Mo plays better he can be that second double team guy," but when you're saying that about your team, you need to pick up that second double team guy in free agency or the draft or something.

Can't believe I missed this, but from the Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell:

A Curry-Lawson bake-off?

The way I hear it from someone who should know, New York's eighth pick might come down to a bake-off between Davidson's Stephen Curry and North Carolina's Ty Lawson.

I can't believe Lawson is the eighth pick in this draft, but let's play this out because it's an interesting exercise: Lawson is dramatically superior as an athlete. Curry is dramatically superior as a basketball player. Do you want the triple-jump champ or the kid from the movie "Hoosiers?'

My gut: Curry will be a better pro over the entire course of his career.

Of course, I disagree with his assessment of the two, but I'm biased. Though I don't see how you can flat out say Curry is a "dramatically superior" basketball player.

21 million or so over the life of the contract, which runs until 2013.

in a perfect world we could trade him to GState and get Ronny back. His kind of hustle and energy is what this team was missing (Powell is no Ronny!). Luke would be perfect for Nellieball.

Rick Bonnell is a moron, don't bother posting his tripe here.

Curry is a far superior college player but that doesn't mean he's got a position to play in the pros. Although, to his credit he measured taller at the combine than I anticipated. Still, it takes a special athlete to do things at 6'3 in the NBA (DWade) and Curry definitely isn't that type of athlete. He's deadly from the outside though and that shouldn't change in the NBA.

Height doesn't mean anything if the wingspan and standing reach aren't there. Beasley's wingspan is 2 inches longer and his standing reach is 2 inches higher than Griffin.

Griffin's going to have a tough time trying to out muscle guys in the NBA like he did in college.

I think he'll peak at 15 ppg and 8 rpg.

Reach comes into play when you don't have the height and explosiveness to get rebounds. If you posses the timing, reach and wingspan, you can be shorter but still excel off the glass. The thing is, Blake has the power, the explosiveness, the athletic ability, the soft hands, the large hands and the timing. Does he have a 7 foot 2 wingspan? No, but I guarantee his vertical is better then Beasley's 35 inch's. He is also far more athletic, and powerful. Think about it, the guy is 6 foot 10, 250 pounds coming out of college as a Sophmore. Think about how big he will be in 3 years, with NBA level weight training and guidance. He could end up being 6 foot 10, 270 pounds of pure muscle. Combine that with his toughness and athletic ability. He could easily pull down 10 boards a year.

Ty Lawson hasn't been drawing much positive interest at the NBA's combine in Chicago.

"Injury prone," one assistant general manager told DraftExpress.com of Lawson.

"A backup point guard ... he's 100% behind Jonny Flynn," another NBA representative told the site.

"100% behind Johnny Flynn?" Wow. Some team's really going to luck out when they land Ty...I have a feeling it's going to be the Hawks. I hope not though, don't want a team in the division taking Ty. Maybe the 76ers at 17 as an heir apparent to Miller?

Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady has had his second surgery of the year, undergoing shoulder arthroscopy three months after having a microfracture procedure on his knee.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the surgery Friday was "timed to allow McGrady to resume basketball-related work when his rehabilitation from the knee surgery will allow."

go to the Mirage and check out the Lakers Store. They have a display with all the championship rings and you might even get to see Michael Cooper pushing a baby stroller like i did.

Awesome game last night from the Lakers. We had too much fun yesterday and I just woke up.

Everyone showed up to play last night, even Puke.

Rubio just spoke with a Spanish newspaper, so finally we have some clarification.

Actual translations:

"Hay que ver cuál es la mejor opción para mí. Memphis tiene el dos, pero eso no quiere decir nada"

"We have to see what the best option for me is. Memphis has the 2nd pick, but that doesnt necessarily mean anything"

"El número es importante porque quiere decir que tienes mejor status, pero también se tiene que valorar si el equipo que te escoge tiene un buen proyecto y los jugadores que hay".

The number of the pick is important because it gives you a better status, but you also have to consider if the team that picks you has a good plan and what players are part of the team.

"Hay posibilidades de continuar en el Joventut. Depende de qué número salga y la negociación final, pero sobre todo de la cláusula que está negociando mi agente con el club".

There are possibilities to continue in Joventut. Depends where I get picked and the final negotiation, but specially about my contract buyout that my agent is negotiating with the club.

"Si no hay un buen proyecto en la NBA no voy. Si voy es porque hay un buen futuro".

If I cant find a promising project in the NBA then I wont go. If I go is because there will be a good future for me there.

*************

So what you can take from this is:

-He will NOT pull from the draft, he explicitly said that it depends where he gets picked.
-He just needs to be convinced that the team that drafts him has a winning plan, he doesnt wanna go to a team that isnt ambitious or doesnt have a good foundation.
-Memphis is not ruled out.

He is a better player. I don't know about "dramatically superior though.

I don't know what dumbass said that Flynn is better than Lawson either...
