What Does Sony Have For The Holidays?

I wonder if Watch Dogs 2 is a possibility this year.

Year and a half since the game shipped. Technically 2 years since its planned releases.

Ubisoft hasnt taken more then 2 years to make a sequel in forever.

BeforeU

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
15/20k is good for a flagship AAA title with a previously established franchise like Halo? It's maybe good for The Black Ops 2 port on Wii U, not for Halo months after launch

It looks good if we weren't talking about a triple A franchise. I thought we were talking about a triple A franchise averaging free to play online title numbers.

You guys completely missed my point. But yeah w.e. I guess every AAA games now days (ships with multiplayer) should have 100k player base or its a failure. gotcha. I mean lets just completely ignore the fact that every game ships with mutiplayer mode now.

It's not a mainstream game and in no way can compete with Tomb Raider let alone Halo 5.

Let's get this out of the way, since people still have trouble understanding it:
-Sony has games for the holiday.
-They have exclusives.(Dragon Quest/Ratchet n Clank/etc)
-They have 3rd party support

What they don't have is a AAA exclusive. Something only available on their console that will get people. I don't see how this is so hard for some people to understand.

Sony is not doomed. They just revealed a Star Wars Battlefront marketing deal with EA. That's going to be huge.

Count towards what? Remember that no one is saying that "Console X or Y haz no gamez".

Lol i made that comment jokingly after several lists in this thread included P5 and even disgaea 5 but not dq heroes.

I have 2 questions know that i have your attention op though. So if you dont mind answering.

1) if you knew the ps4 has no AAA exclusive for a fall release why did you make a thread centred around something you already know? Why wasn't the question centred around how will sony combat against x1 which seemingly has a larger array of AAA exclusives while ps4 doesn't?

2) why did you make the thread about 2 months away from e3 as well as after a 20+page discussion took place on the same topic a month or so back that iirc you also took part in?

But in regards to the question you already seem to know and based your thread on, as of this moment they have no AAA exclusive for the holidays, but as was said in this and the other thread people said to wait till after e3 since games have been revealed at e3 and then released during the holidays before. Sonys examples are LBP3 and Gran Turismo.

So its not out of this world if they announce something.

In regards to your complaining of 3rd party lists you decided to include a list of 3rd party marketing for the x1 for whatever reason, so i guess its only natural that people would include 3rd party titles which are marketed with the playstation since you made the statement "heck we dont even know any AAA marketing deals with 3rd party game" when the info comes out or is already known.

It seems youve missed a good chunk of this thread if you dont think people have been saying no games or exclusives

Finally about sony struggling.

So last holiday:

Sony had it's lead cut from ~1000K to ~500K over November/December (US numbers obviously).

This was achieved by its main competitor retailing at anything up to an effective $175 value discount (price cut + store vouchers), whereas Sony didn't drop unit price, they bundled software.

March NPD has - according to a creamy sweet gentleman - seen PS4 outsell the combined total of WiiU and Xbone. The gap at February was up to ~680K, so it could now be up to anything between 700-800K.

In Q1CY, and without a price drop.

TL:DR - in 3 months of what isn't a 'peak sales' period, PS4 has made back up to 60% of the market lead it lost in 2 months over the peak sale holiday period against an aggressively discounting competitor. There are another 6 months of 'preseason' including the release of Batman and MGSV which PS4 is lead platform for co-marketing on.

Yup, no having any pre-E3 announced big exclusives and possible co-marketing/lead platform deal with one of the biggest IPs around is going to lead to a bumpy rest of the year for Sony.

Theyll be fine.

Are you kidding me? Division which was announced 2 years ago still doesnt have a solid release date. And you expect them to release watchdog 2? lmao

It will be interesting how Sony will approach this holiday season. Microsoft got bigger guns than last holiday this year. I love the competition. In it to win it.
They are damned to win it. Until then it will be month after month of loss.
And it will be entertaining to see if they keep their nerves.

I don't get how or why people hype marketing deals as if they were exclusives, I mean as far I remember BF Hard line had a marketing deal with Sony and still sold more on the xbone.

I really don't get why people hype marketing deals...

It has easily sold most on PS4. That is obvious to anyone who has taken a look at bfhstats.com since launch.

Hope not. That piece of mess takes a lot of time to get into something that works.

That's not what they said: they said the newer Halo games have experienced rapid decay of their player base; faster than Halo 3. Which is true.

I would be interested in a comparison between Halo 4/MCC's post-launch decline versus CoD or BF to see if the tendency of games to have online modes has anything at all to do with said decline or if it's just because H4 and MCC sucked.

So are you completely ignoring the fact that the marketing deal Sony had with Activision for Destiny pushed over 500k PS4 that release month? Yeah, I don't get why marketing deals are hyped man.

Hardline was not a hyped game and had no bundle. Also Hardline sold more on PS4.

America is not the world.

You just have to look at the Top 10 Online games to see this. There's always multiple CoD titles in the Top 10, and Halo continues to drop below them.

I'm thinking we'll either see Quantic Dream's next game or The Last Guardian this holiday.

What speaks against QD game is that it has only been 2 years since Beyond, but on the other hand they seemed quite capable with the PS4 tech early on.

What speaks for The Last Guardian is that it seems like they'll wait until it's near completion before reintroducing it and that could potentially make the time between unveil and release shorter than normal. On the other hand Rime seems to also be close to completion and it seems like a bad idea to pit the two against each other. I also have a wild theory that TLG will be used to push Morpheus and if that's the case it's obviously not coming out until next year.

So September-December will probably look something like this:
September: Tearaway Unfolded
October: Ratchet & Clank, Until Dawn (Halloween), Rime
November: Quantic Dream, No Man's Sky
December: The Tomorrow Children

Battefield: Hardline got delayed and was released close to Bloodborne. At that point, it was more beneficial for Sony to focus on marketing Bloodborne rather than advertising Hardline.

At first I was like, did someone bump my thread from last month?

apparently some people have more interest in potential console sales than potential games played

Yep, I could definitely see TLG this holiday.

The margin difference of Hardline sales between the 2 consoles was minimal and this was with Bloodborne (taking the #2 spot for a console exclusive) competing with Hardline sales for that month. Marketing deals have been working for Sony so far and they're not gonna stop now. Arkham Knight is next on the list and so on.

People interested in sales in what is basically a sales thread, shocking.

It's not a sales thread though, it's a topic asking what games sony may have for the holidays..

Always thought the topic was to discuss primarily first party stuff for the holidays, but that doesn't seem to be the case now lol.

Either way, I still want a new Wipeout. I think we may hear something about the rumored Gravity Rush, really loved the first game and wouldn't mind being able to play that same game on the big screen and longer draw distance.

I think Halo 5 is a non issue, it has to compete with Call of Duty and Battlefront (and probably a new Destiny Title *Comet*)

Where Sony, really don't need a AAA Exclusive, when they have the Battlefront Marketing.
Look what they did with the Destiny Bundle, that did gangbusters numbers.

Also there is a whole world outside of America.

You don't need exclusives to win people over, you just need to have good games on the system, people will also buy what their friends have, and their friends have PS4's (or Xbox Ones)

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Complete conjecture based on no evidence. Nice narrative that fits your own wants though.

Well he's actually very correct, so...

Hit buyers are a much bigger segment than core gamers... And they buy 2-4 games a year and it's always the big ones that their friends buy so they aren't left out. CoD, Battleifled, Madden... Then the infamous "who gets the 4th spot" game. Your GTA, your Red Dead, your Skyrm, your AC3... That big game that pops that year usually not annualized. Star Wars.

Marketing deals are about capturing extra market share for those titles.

well said.

Some folks may have short/bad memories - Microsoft had to heavily discount and bundle the Xbox one to 'beat' the PS4 (which remained was never discounted).

Sony are going to be fine this holiday season.

No, its a fact. A game like Perona 5 is jus not mainstream material. It just isn't.
That has nothing to do with the quality of the game though. I'm sure it'll be a great JRPG.

You think BF Hardline sold more on Xbox One worldwide? Bless your little cotton socks.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't quite count it out. The Persona series hasn't gotten a huge surge in popularity. Though that may not equal sales.

We will see after the E3 what both have to offer at the end of the year.

But it's clearly that Sony will have the biggest and most variations in genres.

He is kinda correct.

The Order 1886(third person shooter)
Bloodborne(action rpg)
MLB:The show(sports game)
Tearaway:Unfolded(platformer)
Until Dawn(horror)
Disgeae 5(SRPG)
Persona 5(JRPG)
Dragonquest: Heroes(Musou)
FFXIV:Heavensward(MMORPG)
R&C(platformer)
GoW 3(action adventure)
Toukiden Kiwami(hunter)

That is just retail games not counting any of the fantastic indie/digital games.

1. What I bolded is a contradiction, Since when is Ratchet n Clank not a AAA game. This is a complete reboot not a spin-off.

2. Also this Topic is premature until after TGS. I don't see the logic of someone stating as fact any platforms holiday lineup until after the conferences. Especially Sony since they spread their announments out with E3, GamesCom and TGS. What's so hard to understand about that?

3. Again where is the reverse question and "concern"? What AAA game lineup do MS have from January to the end of October? I still haven't heard an answer.
