Star Wars Battlefront will not have ironsights

What is battlefront? I see it's made by Dice. is it Battlefield with a Star Wars skin? or is their light sabers and cool shit?
The fact that someone doesn't know what Battlefront is makes me feel old even though I'm 22.

Nothing more than it being "useless and it slows down the pacing". Apparently people on GAF like rushing guns blazing with movement having little effect on accuracy.

There's a very popular game on Steam that has no ADS, and is very picky about moving and shooting at the same time. Just because it's missing ADS doesn't mean you can jump and move without a accuracy penalty.

Don't pretend to know what you're talking about.

it prevents people from making headshots while running and jumping all over the place; like some arcadey gamey faux-shooters of yore. Apparently some people still want that.

That's the exact opposite of people complaining that ADS forces you to stand still to aim your shot. You should be running around shooting people then? Or you shouldn't? Or do we hate it just because it's not the old way of doing things? I'm confused by what gamers want.

So I've yet to see any legitimate reason for people to hate ADS. It makes no sense that I should have perfect aim while hip firing a gun, but I guess it looks cool.

Excited for the game regardless, but I don't understand the ADS hate at all.

Good news. I hope this will lead to more FPS without ironsights so we can have some diversity.

I may try this one now.

How can a different gameplay mechanic be so impactful for some people to suddenly change their view of the game? It's like people already know what to expect from all games and they just want to see in advance how many checkmarks the upcoming game clicks. And if not, the game suddenly becomes bad or great. But with such an attitude where is the opportunity for innovation/mutation/evolution. Everything is expected, everything is known, just pick what you know… Blah, no wonder games are where they are. :/

Can someone explain why we celebrate something being taken away or not included?

ADS is triggered on the controller. So if you dont like ADS then don't press that trigger. To take away the option for people who do like it, makes little sense.

Eg. I can run around in Destiny and never use ADS, then choose to play only using it. Its up to me.

Enlighten me to what i'm missing here.

ADS is NOT an option when games build their shooting mechanics around them. When a game does not affect your movement speed and accuracy when ads then its truly optional.

Well, that's fucking stupid.

By not putting ADS, they're going to alienate an entire generation of gamers from playing their game. Such a bad decision. You can have both in the game by making them both equally viable, don't nerf hip firing or add damage to ADS.

What's wrong with iron sights? I mean this doesn't mean much to me as I'm probably going to play it 3rd person but some people are reacting as if Iron sights being added would destroy the game, it would just give people more options.

Same..

Is there any reason why ADS seems to be disliked as much? is there some problem with it?

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.

Seriously, this thread saddens me. Not everything needs to be homogenized. Not everything will appeal to you. That's okay.

I can already see the reviews:

"5/10. No ADS in 2015. Doesn't feel like a modern shooter."

Why does every game need to have ADS anyways? It seems like people actually want a reskinned Battlefield...

You should appreciate the fact that it's slightly different, than every other shooter nowadays, but that's just my opinion.

It's pretty obvious that iron sights add a 'stop and pop' pacing to online shooters, I don't know why anyone would deny this. Especially true when they drastically affect accuracy, just watch gameplay of a more modern cod or battlefield and compare them to an RtCW. Newer pace is to slow down at every engagement, and rewards 'who sees who first', older style is constantly moving while tracking another moving target, fighting against the enemy's independent movement and your own.

Ignoring skill arguments anyway, I simply find it much more fun to be able to move and shoot with full accuracy. That's why I enjoy single player FPSs that don't have movement penalties on gun accuracy like Bioshock Infinite and Wolfenstein (2013), you can be moving at full speed and still be pinpoint accurate. Which is awesome when you are using a mouse.

There is so many games these days that play exactly like the COD formula that I think it's great Battlefront is straying from it and doing something unique.

Really glad about all the stuff I am hearing about Battlefront. Thought they might end up just making a reskinned Battlefield but that's already being far from the case.

I'm trying to think of what quake or unreal would look like if they had iron sights..hmmmm..maybe counter strike?
I can't

this is so much BS

Also, they can have ADS without slowing down the movement.

Call of Duty has done this for the past 7 years or so.

"this increases the skill involved, more dynamic"
so much elitism, ugh.

This. I don't understand why ADS can't be implemented as something that is purely aesthetic. Keep the movement speed and the bullet spread/recoil the same as in hip-fire. That way no one has an advantage and the freedom/speed of movement is the same.

Why not have the option? Options are nice, hell just make it PC only if everyone hates the snap to aiming of ADS on console.

Should not be allowed to breed
So,

basically WarHawk.

I had fun with that game I guess. But for a shooter, I spent all my time avoiding shooting guns. All the fun was had with the tanks, rockets, throwing mines. I'm sensing a deja-vu with BFront. Then, battlefield came along and I suddenly I had fun doing all of the above including shooting guns (ADS!)

I don't even understand ADS. What does it do?

If you want to penalize moving you can do that just fine without ADS, Counterstrike does it just fine, no?

So I don't really understand why this new generation of FPS players needs to hold down an additional button for firing a gun. What exactly does it add?

I remember when I played Star Wars: Battlefront II competitively on the PlayStation 2 we would have these "Gladiator" Tournaments where it would be a 1v1 faceoff on Coruscant or Mos Eisley. Grunts only, no grenades. Best of three. Sometimes they could last over half an hour because of no ADS and the high time to kill.

It's been trained into them by the insane popularity of COD4 and it's generation of shooters, you see a guy and immediately mash LT. This not only plants your feet so you don't even have to think about your own movement, but also gives the game a less obvious place to put in the auto aim as it will snap to during the FOV transition.

I'm not against it, as long as everybody has the same stats still. Usually ADS comes with a zoom, but maybe they don't want to have that zoom. I don't know, why they decided against it.

I just find it hilarious that no ADS means no buy for some people...

Iron sights aren't an option in most games, they are a necessity if you want to hit something. Iron sights are not inherently bad, but they cannot be shoved into every type of shooter. I'll use Titanfall as an example. In this game you can ride mechs, vault off walls, and go from ground level to 10 stories up in seconds. However, if you want to kill somebody, you have to slow to a crawl and use your iron sights to pick someone off in a narrow hallway. There is such a dichotomy between the movement of Titanfall and the shooting that it feels like the game is at war with itself. I feel like Battlefront is one title that would not benefit at all from iron sights.
