So is Daredevil unaffected by all this nonsense? It's one of the few runs I actually pull these days and I'm not sure what is happening to it. I don't see it anywhere in the OP.

One of my other regular pulls (Punisher) is ending with the Last Days stuff and I'm okay with it. I'm trying to get out of hard copies anyways and just go with trades or downloads now when I hear something is good.

I just bought SW#1 on comixology, as expected, I'm a bit lost on some stuff, fortunately I had read a couple ultimate universe comics so I know some of the characters a bit like the evil Reed.

I had to say, even though I didn't understand a lot of the little detail, I get the gist of huge war between 2 worlds and it's a very engaging book with really really good art. I haven't read comic for sometime, but I think I'll try to follow this event.

Is it worth it to go back and finish up Avengers and New Avengers lead in. I stopped reading both around December. Or should I just pick up SW #1?

I'm sad to see the Ultimate Universe end, but this storyline seems ridiculously awesome. I'm really fascinated to see what the universe will be like after this event ends.

As a tip to you and everyone else overwhelmed by the number of issues in the OP: No one in their right mind is buying every single issue of this event.

The main story will be collected in Secret Wars #1-8. You can just buy those and be fine. It looks like the Battleworld line will function similarly to most comic book tie-ins, as it will complement the events of the main book and tell some side stories. Pretty much everything else is just unrelated "elsewhere" stories that may be tons of fun in their own right but are in no way essential and will probably have little or nothing to do with the main book. You don't need to read The Korvac Saga to understand Secret Wars, but if you like cosmic Marvel then it might be for you. If you're a Spider-Man fan then check out some of the Spider-Man books, but do it for the character and not because you want more background on Secret Wars.

This was good to see. I only read Ms. Marvel - I should be fine to read that and not have to also read Secret Wars, right?

I still find it absolutely hilarious that while the whole multiverse ends, Tony and Steve practically murdered each other.

Way to go guys.

I picked it up without finishing Hickmans run and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to be going back through his run before issue 2 hits so I can get a more complete picture of whats set this off.

Well yeah, there's no DD book in Secret Wars announced so far, but we also know Waid is ending his run very soon anyway.

Even funnier that (issue 1 spoilers)
None of these two dumb motherfuckers is anywhere to be seen on Reed's ark or even the issue.
In the end, Cap will have been completely irrelevant and useless in everything post-Infinity.

Yup. It looks like her main book won't even go into Secret Wars and will focus on her dealing with the end of the world (the prelude to the event). It's likely that she'll tie into the main event in some way given that she's a very popular character at the moment and she's on the new post-SW Avengers team but I'm sure it won't be necessary unless you're really into Ms. Marvel continuity.

I still don't understand how Doom wants to stop the incursions by creating the incursions.

He wasn't trying to stop the incursions. The incursions were the mechanism by which Doom was attempting to stop the Beyonders from simultaneously destroying everything. If not for Doom and the incursions, Reed & co. wouldn't have had the time they needed to "not lose."

Doom wanted to stop the Beyonders from using the Molecule Men as a Multiversal time bomb. The Incursions are a side-effect of his actions to prevent that.

What Doom wanted to stop was the Beyonder's bomb(Molecule Men) going off and destroying everything all at once.

The incursions are the side effect of Doom killing off the Molecule Men early, instead of everything blowing up at the same time it's now happening much more slowly.

He doesn't want to stop the incursions, he wants to stop the simultaneous end of everything the Beyonders have programmed into Molecule Man.
The incursions are a byproduct of his plan to do so, a necessary evil, not a goal in themselves.

Aight, cool. I do love all these amateur teenage superhero girls being thrust so quickly into multi-universal, world-ending scenarios so quickly though :p

Wait a minute, if the only 2 uni's left are regular and Ultimate how do you have 2099, and Old Man Logan and Zombies and etc etc?

You know why, right?

Old man Rogers had to have the moral upper hand one last time.

ooooh! I got that part completely wrong then. So MM told Doom about the Beyonders' plan, and to stop them, they killed Molecule Men, so they can build a bomb to stop the Beyonders directly at the source, but the culling somehow created the Incursions.

Am I getting it right now?

So tons of major storylines and publications from years past seem to be getting revisited within Secret Wars too? There's a new Civil War, Infinity Gauntlet, Spider-Verse, X-Men '92?

Wild.

Such a huge event.

The idea is that at the end of this, the Ultimate Universe will be totally eradicated, and some new version of 616 (complete with all the changes and incursions from Ultimate, Battleworld, etc.) will live on?

Yeah, I know. Steve was way more about being right than about doing the right thing. While Tony was a psychopath.
I absolutely love Hickman but he pretty much assassinated Steve and Tony to make his Reed and Doom Avengers book.

Yeah, the exact nature of the bomb and its efficiency are still unknown but yeah.

That new universe isn't likely to be 616 (strictly speaking) but yeah, for all intents and purposes, every glimpse we've had points at a 616-like universe with some characters from alternate universes on top of it.

From what I gather, the idea is that there will be no Ultimate or 616, but instead just a whole new universe.

Anyone want in on this pool? How long before marvel shows an alternative universe after Secret Wars...

I say 6 months.

Just finished reading Secret Wars #1, definitely really emotional by the end.

The last page is a white page with:
The Marvel Universe
1961-2015

The Ultimate Universe
2000-2015

They just don't place any value on sentient life. They are completely dedicated to their experiments, and their latest just happened to be "what if we blew up everything all at once?"
Do beyonders live outside the multiverse? Wouldn't they basically killed themselves too?

Well, that was awesome.

Issue 1 spoilers
So was the Maker building his own ark like Ghostmind predicts? It appears so. And man, they went in hard with killing people off. Sue Richards and the kids dying, or being whisked off somewhere unknown.

And what was with Doom at the end? Was it truly him using his time platform against the Beyonders and he is somehow already undoing all the damage?

Lastly, 616 Reed believes in nothing now. His family is gone, and he has nothing holding him back now. For anyone going up against Richards now:
