Keep in mind that in Lament of Innocence, the entire reason Dracula came to be in the first place was due to alchemy. Don't rule vampirism out just yet :p

Very true! But all the same, I echo the earlier sentiment that hoped that IGA's new project would veer away from utilizing Dracula, vampires and things of that sort all over again. They have the opportunity to craft an entirely new universe with its own mythos and another unique take on the occult, and I rather not see them waste it.

Curse of Darkness, for example, had the whole "Devil Forgemaster" thing, another cool alchemy-related thing. Which, in hindsight, offered a pretty unique aspect to the CV mythos. Too bad it was never referenced again in any other game in the series, which I felt made its inclusion a bit of a waste. Since there's no "Castlevania timeline" to worry about here, maybe they could elaborate and develop such a concept in a better fashion!

If it can't be called Castlevania for obvious reasons, what if it's a sort of name reboot? Like something-vania or Castle-something? And no, not Igavania :p

Metrovania... a Castlevania set in a city or something (no not like LOS2). But since the aesthetic points toward something more medieval, probably not that obviously, just an example.

He should call it Castle Mania. Then they can use all the KS money on lawyers.

*shrug* if Konami doesn't own a license or trademark for it what can they do? Get onto them for doing something similar? It'd be like Universal telling someone that they can't make a movie called Jurassic Planet or something.

I mean...Sword or Whip seems possible at this point right?

Castle and Vania are not trademarked, so he could use either one of those. The vania is evocative of transylvania, which is where the dracula stories take place, so if he's keeping a dracula theme, i'd love for vania to continue.

You seem pretty obsessed with the name for some reason. It could be called Dumb Dumb Dino's Diarrhea Dystopia. You might wanna save your money for a game with a cooler name.

I wouldn't think so, it's just something used to tease us until the announcement proper. You could be right but I'm not seeing it.

My apologies for being excited and speculative like everyone else.

I didn't say Konami would win nessesarily, but I have zero doubt if they went with a name that similar they'd face legal action from them.

Hm, I'll have to agree with you then. IGA did have some cool ideas that don't need to rely on the Castlevania backbone, like the alchemy stuff, using demonic souls to gain power etc.

Edit: IGA is such a fucking cool guy, that pic is amazing. Dat beard/mustache combo is stylish, he pulls it off well!

Very possible.

I don't mean to come across like I'm going to be disappointed if it's not called Castlevania or something similar. But, with the recent Konami shenanigans and how poorly they handle their franchises on top of being a huge Castlevania fan since the 80's, I would be okay with someone else, like Igarashi, carrying on the legacy of the franchise with a new IP if Konami isn't going to do anything with it or let anyone else do anything with it. It's one of those IP's that are being "held hostage" by people that don't care about them, so yeah, I'm a little concerned about the future of the series.

Whatever it's called, I'm still going to be excited for it if it looks good, especially if it scratches that Castlevania itch. Again I don't mean to give the impression that I care greatly about what it's called. I think it would be awesome if they let him use the Castlevania name, or a variant, but if it's his own thing that's okay too. It's nice to see someone giving a fuck.

He could always just call it Palacevania, Fortressvania or Citadelvania for best #fuckyou573 effect.

I mean yeah, if bethesda can sue mojang for 'scrolls', konami can sue iga for 'vania.'

He can name it something else, but have it take place in a world/castle with the word vania in it.

Me too. My lady graduates pharmacy school tomorrow and we're actually going to be on the road for about 12 hours as we move to Florida on Monday, so I don't think I'll be able to catch the announcement unless my shitty 3G will let me.

Going by the text, it seems the votes are being tracked. Everyone vote whip. We don't need another sword game.

I think we'll end up with both + more tbh. Remember the quotes "it matters not" and "there will be more weapons"? This is something else. Could be he wants to give the weapon to the villain for all we know. "What good is choosing a weapon if I choose the hand that holds it?"

Yeh. I was just joking, friend. I come into this thread randomly and the last couple times were you wondering about the name. Just made me laugh is all. I think we are all just excited to get a game made by Iga that plays like his prior games\instead of a match 3 mobile game.

Hah! That LP video confirms it, IGA was pretty much responsible for SotN turning out the way it did. I like how he talks about everyone being left to do their own thing, must've been a fun project where everyone felt they could go all out and it really shows, the game is a labour of love

Sorry man. After my post I kind of figured that you were probably just joking, and yeah, I have posted several times about it so I can see that :p
