Sony: "No concerns" about any lack of PS4 software this Holiday

Are people in this thread worried that they won't have anything to play on their PS4 this holiday or that Sony won't have any appealing games to drive PS4 sales?

It depends what you're looking for. Uncharted was my big fall game. That got delayed. Ratchet and Clank would have been nice. That got delayed. Right now there's no exclusive PS4 game in the fall that I want. I don't hate indie titles as a rule, but I've only ever enjoyed a few out of the hundreds I've played, so I don't look forward to them.

Earlier I said that there wasn't a PS4 that I was looking forward to in the fall. After thinking about it, that's not true. I want to check out the next Need for Speed title. For some reason I've been playing a lot of hot pursuit lately.

Tomb Raider isn't a true exclusive. It won't sell systems- it will just get XB1 owners playing it first, and take away software sales from Sony- which is why it makes no sense from a publisher perspective- they are shooting themselves in the foot. When it finally comes out for PS4, people will just ignore it and buy Uncharted.

Most people don't know it's coming for PS4.

Big holiday release or not, PlayStation 4 has an interesting and diverse list of titles not on the competitor's system coming throughout the year.

Summer

  • Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess
  • Everybody's Gone to the Rapture [Download]
  • God of War III Remastered
  • Godzilla
  • J-Stars Victory VS+
  • Journey Collector's Edition
  • Kingdom Under Fire II [Download]
  • Onechanbara Z2: Chaos
  • One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3
  • Tearaway Unfolded
  • The Talos Principle
  • The Tomorrow Children [Download]
  • Until Dawn
  • Volume [Download]

Fall

  • Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance
  • Saint Seiya: Soldiers' Soul

Unconfirmed Dates [Retail]

  • Dragon Quest Heroes (probably this fall)
  • Persona 5 (earliest this fall)

Unconfirmed Dates [Download]

  • Alienation
  • N++
  • No Man's Sky (retail?)
  • Kill Strain
  • Let It Die
  • Rime
  • Salt and Sanctuary
  • The Witness

Still Unannounced, But Leaked or Rumored and Likely for 2015

  • Beyond: Two Souls Remaster (leaked last year)
  • Gravity Rush Remaster (leaked through Korean ratings)
  • Tales of Zestiria (rumored announcement on June 5/6)

Anyway, I'd wait until E3, at least. LittleBigPlanet 3 was announced at E3 and launched that fall, so it's possible we'll see another something like that.

The latter. Which is perfectly fair since this is a forum about the industry. And I don't think anyone is actually "worried", just analyzing the situation. Some concern trolling is part of the mix too of course, but that's just the internet for you.

Good to know NMS is heading for holidays (like I predicted). Too bad Tearaway is as well. I'd have liked to play that earlier. Well, need to get them both then. :)

do we really need more ports instead of triple A titles. How long until devs get acclimated to the new hardware? Where is Syphoon Filter?

Or ignore him? Are you telling me you quote every hyperbolic statement on the internet? So someone thinks Sony's lineup is a joke, so what? What do you care if someone thinks it's a joke? HOw does someone else not liking Sony's games effect you in any way? Why are you so adamant on defending the lineup of a video game company? Despite what you tried to imply, he wasn't trying to convince you or anyone else that it was a joke, he was just expressing that he wasn't thrilled with it.

You didn't even challenge that point or ask him to expand on it, you just made up an entirely different argument he never made.

It looks like you didn't even read the post I originally quoted properly:

[Call-Me-G];163918267 said:
Two christmas without anything huge on the system, and they still manage to sell PS4 without any limit.

The moment someone brings sales into the equation following the statements he made they are questioning the rest of the user base by default. That is where you begin to question other peoples opinions.

That is what I responded to. That is why I asked him why he is upset. I can understand being upset with the quality of a product you have bought, but why question why other people buy it? Why be upset about that?

But yet, here you are accusing me of defending the lineup (show me where), having previously suggested I think that everybody should agree with my opinions (an opinion I didn't even post).

double jump

you haven't lived until a random little kid ask you "how do you make love".
But that happens every holiday? COD, Assassin's Creed etc. sells most every holiday.

I worded that wrong. I just mean usually there's other options in the aaa space besides the cod/creeds. This year that doesn't seem to be the case.

Like what? Another Killzone? God of War?

I would be ok with both of those. I skipped shadow fall and I'm always ready for a new GOW.

Gow3 remastered is coming out, and Uncharted will be out in the spring. There's not much else that fits your wish list.
The remaster doesn't interest me in the least and Uncharted is months away.

I'd rather Sony take their time and make quality games.
I always agree that devs should take their time to make the best games possible but I'm impatient and bored too.

Yea.... I don't think I'd call that list diverse at all. Mostly a bunch of Japanese anime stuff and some remasters.

I'm also 100% sure No Man's Sky is not coming out this year

I'd love another JRPG in that style from Studio Japan, just make sure it's a better game this time around. The Legend of Dragoon was... alright.

Yeah, I never got the love for it. I tried it in my post-FF7 haze of playing literally every other JRPG I could find in hopes of another being as good, and it just felt like an also-ran with an annoying timing mechanic in combat.

Lol, what else would they say?

"Yeah, we're actually kind of concerned. Do you happen to know any game developers that want to give us an exclusive?"

I just want to play Wild and Rime already :)

Actually I'm with you on that. I am not hyped for No Man's Sky and Tearaway, hell I even sold my Vita without caring to try it and am still not interested. However... RIME and Wild seems awesome indie titles that may get my money!

The perception of Sony has drastically change between. Sony's concern was to get people to buy their console for it's exclusives like MGS4. Now they just don't even have to try as hard as Nintendo and Microsoft and rely on 3rd party bundles and remastered with everything being delayed to 2016.

But hey greatness awaits, just give a couple more years.

I think Until Dawn is a more realistic bet than NMS or Wild for this holiday season. Combined with games like RiME, The Witness, and Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, I think Sony will have a fun palette of smaller exlclusive games to offer this year.

I'm sure E3 will shed light on 1-2 bigger 2015 releases though.

Because of their considerable sales lead, Sony looks like it is feeling comfortable with the idea that Xbone will sell more for a couple months later in the year.

Tomb Raider would help Xbox in EU more than Halo ever could, the reboot sold mostly in EU on PS3, it just depends if MS would market it enough there & if EU consumers love the franchise enough to buy a console for it.

I still don't see No Man's Sky coming out this year. It's a very ambitious game done by an Indie developer and I suspect it'll get a delay.

I know they don't mention that here, but it could be like DriveClub where they wait until later in the year to mention the delay.

NMS still coming this year? It's all good then.

Still interested in what else is coming, though. Early 2016 is looking a little too crowded.

Kings Quest, No Mans Sky, Persona 5,
Disgaea 5, Dragons Quest Heroes is all I really need this holiday season anyway.

Rime, The Tomorrow Children, The Witness, Alienation, Battlefront, etc. will just be icing and will feed me into what is shaping up to be a ridiculous start to 2016 on the PS4.

Reading through this thread it is hilarious how people turn indie games into an entire genre of gaming. It's not I am tired of 2D metroidvania's or tired of schmups or tired of horror games it is " tired of indie games ". That's confusing to me to shut out an entire array of games simply due to budgets.

As far as the holiday season goes, I think Microsoft will have the biggest advantage due to Halo. Nintendo will probably position Yoshi's Wooly World for November (but Europe gets it in June). Xenoblade X I suspect will also be ah holiday title, but it won't be any means be a big seller. Too much of its success has to rely on North America to carry the weight of its sales, but Japan hasn't been supportive enough to help out so far and I don't expect much from Europe at all for that matter. I don't know what Sony has planned for PS4 this holiday, but I remain skeptical. Uncharted has been delayed to 2016 and even a remastered port of Ratchet & Clank as well.

Looks like they had AAA budgets to me. Enough with the exclusion.

Yours is likely wrong then...

ps3ud0 8)

I've never heard MLB referred to as AAA and the Order pretty much stunk

It's not a typo, I'll take a screenshot when I get home.

You would have to literally play all day unless you got the game early.

Until Dawn
Tearaway Unfolded
Persona 5
Dragon Quest Heroes
No Man's Sky
Disgaea 5

Throw in an Uncharted Collection and it looks pretty solid to me.

Ratchet and Clank is not a remastered port

Delaying what are arguably the two biggest exclusives they had for this year, barring anything thats announced at e3, makes no sense to me, like I understand why they did it, but fans are only going to put up with this for so long.

Really?

Devs are stumped as to how to program for several years outdated PC hardware?

I don't even.

Is it the bottlenecks?

NMS still coming this year? It's all good then.

This is from the New Yorker article

They are scheduled to finish at the end of this year; at that time, they will invite millions of people to explore their creation, as a video game, packaged under the title No Man’s Sky.

http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/05/18/world-without-end-raffi-khatchadourian

The same article has some quotes from people at Sony and it's pretty obvious that Sony doesn't view it as a normal indie game and will be putting a huge marketing budget behind it whenever it's ready. I get the feeling that it's going to be a retail release instead of a downloable game.

Last year it was "Sony has no games for the holidays , Microsoft with SO and MCC will dominate"

What happen?

Microsoft was giving out the xbox at a reduced price with pack in games, up to 3 in some cases and won 2 months in the US charts. Then come January, reraised the price for 2 weeks before lowering again and sales just went back to pre holiday times while Sony didn't flinch on price. They aren't worked because they have to have something up their sleeves. Either a price drop, an unannounced game or they just realize if they lose two months in the US, that Microsoft can't catch them worldwide.

If they're not ready for release, they're not ready for release. Better to delay than repeat the disasters of 2014 (MCC, DC, ASSU).

Shouldn't those people taking a level-headed approach to analysis be well aware that a lack of first party exclusives has in no way hindered the growth of the PS4 platform thus far? Why worry? Sony isn't going to lose all their momentum because of another Forza and another Halo. Those are going to be great games in all likelihood, but not game changers.

He's a marketing guy basically saying whatever stuff to defend their company position.

Besides, that 'lulls' logic goes both ways. Where's MS games during spring/summer? Were they also coming to gripes with hardware?

Interested to see what they've got. I'll be pleasantly surprised if No Man's Sky launches this year, I wasn't expecting it, and Tearaway is a good bonus. Everything else is gravy, but I'm hoping for an Uncharted collection to cozy up with.

Sony doesn't have much of a history of "here's a thing you've never heard of, it's out in 4 months." I'm honestly expecting more "here are some PC games, now they're also PSN games".

Did you even bother reading past that line? It's about ambition, or at least as he wants to frame it. It's a perfectly plausible answer. New hardware not limited by ram, let's make a huge world, oh wait this is taking longer than our ps3 game did.
