Joking aside, it just does sort of kill me to see someone get to go to E3 for the first time, something that I fucking dream about, regardless of how shitty it is, and they go "Eh I'm too good for this but I'll go because I have too.". Bothered me enough that I wanted to vent about it is all. I worded the statement poorly though, I really just meant that his attitude towards games seems rather pretentious but so is basically everyone else's nowadays so it's whatever.

I am sure you are paraphrasing but when did he say that? Don't remember it.

Even if Austin did say that about having to go to E3, it's not like it's out of line when it comes to Giant Bomb. Brad and Jeff often lament having to do the E3 slog as if it were some huge troublesome burden. I suppose in some ways, it certainly can be. It's not like they're there to take in the sights and fun around.

They talked at length about that in that segment. It's at the end of the last Beastcast.

I've not listened to that yet.

edit: Even without having listened to it yet, you already know how the GB guys feel about E3 just from watching them over the past decade or so.

Having listened to the segment this morning; Austin said he was excited to go though and excited to be going with Giant Bomb so I'm not sure where this "above it" attitude was coming from.

All the fatigue came from Alex and Vinny who, even they, admitted they still like going.

White, single, college-educated, twenty-something males. Who woulda guessed?

I'm almost certain Jeff forced them to add the vaping tickbox so he could just auto-ban those people.

I'm rarer. 2% Pacific Islander.
Let's blow this joint and go start minority gb gaf.

Selling my space of "I listen to X, Y, Z" podcasts.

Kidding. I did write in all the Premium ones even though they can't have ads. I did also write in Match 3 for PK even though the other dude says "vibe" too much for my liking.

Also, thank god humor isn't dead and I can say I'm going to burn a comment and it doesn't blow --- no, nevermind.

Lastly, I went to E3 1999. It was excellent. Dreamcast came out, a lone PS2 was kept in a glass pyramid, and nobody knew Episode 1 sucked yet. Star Wars Racer was projected on a 60' screen and you sat in a surround sound seat to play it. Jake Lloyd was there AND PEOPLE WERE HAPPY ABOUT IT. I saw The Matrix at Mann Chinese and said hi to the CountingDown.com Star Wars line. John Romero stayed in our hotel and he drove a fast red car.

11% 35-44, 29% married, 13% have kids (16% DINKs, nice, enjoy it folks.)

The movement in The Witcher 3 is different? Feels exactly the same to me.

And Dan, if you happen to read this, when you're swimming and drowners are near enough to you where you can see their health bars, tap R1 with your crossbow equipped in the radial menu. It shoots a locked on bolt at the drowner and they die in one hit, or two depending on difficulty.

The college kids thing and response were supposed to be taken as tongue in cheek too lol. Sarcasm doesn't play well over the internet, sorry.

Like I said, Austin is a cool cat, I just wish he didn't seem so down on video games when he's only been here for a week LOL. After E3 I would expect him to want to quit the industry all together after having to go to that shit show. It's like our Wrestlemania, it's super exciting until it happens, but at least be excited until it falls to shit, duder.

EDIT: Sorry if I pissed anyone off.

"It's like our Wrestlemania"

It's just a trade show. Trade shows are largely obsolete, anyway.

I think Austin said that due to the large amount and high quality of indie games, that don't appear at e3, that e3 isn't what it used to be? No way saying he's above it though...

Anyway let's end this now and help me
I've decided to buy a new console - probably the new 1tb version along with a TV to play it on... Buuuut people talking about the load times is a real bummer and now I'm back to deciding whether to build a PC again, just that in Japan that's not quite as easy soooooooooooooooooooooooo yeah.
People have suggested buying a ps4 before and remote playing on my vita - but having to use the back touch for the extra buttons sounds bad, I can't buy the shell thing for it either because my vita is too old.
Buh

I'm surprised Dan and Brad are basically toying with the idea of attempting to 100% the side content on the Witcher 3. Dan, maybe but just wait until Brad reaches the next major area and sees how much more there is.

It's not about the show per se, it's really just as a kid that was always the end goal. I remember skipping school just to watch coverage of the show. If you are at E3, it's because you are working in the games industry and that's all I've wanted to do since I was a child. I know it's a weird way to look at it, but that's just how I've always seen it.

I am sure you are paraphrasing but when did he say that? Don't remember it.

He basically was just like I'd rather be at GDC (I would too, to be fair) and that he doesn't care about E3 and Vinny was like dude come on it's your first E3, and he was like "eh".

That's fine, who cares, let's move on, sorry if I offended anyone XOXOXO.

If the events of the first Independence Day didn't result in world peace and the uniting of all humanity, I'll be disappointed. Hopefully, at least NASA got a bump in their budget.

We need to Goldbum up this thread!

I've heard the conceit they use to explain the twenty year gap is the aliens in the sequel use wormholes to travel. So to them, they are showing up weeks, if not days, after the events of the original movie, giving us time to reverse engineer their technology and be much more prepared for an invasion. Maybe it's revealed Jeff Goldblum's character is the lead of that research and reverse engineering of the alien tech. And as others have speculated for years (when a sequel was only a rumor), maybe Bill Pulman's character (by this point a former US President) is
suffering from some condition similar to dementia, due to his mind being temporarily invaded by the alien in Area 51
.

We'd probably decimate them if their advanced tech could be hacked by an Apple.

Wouldn't it be more realistic if NASA's budget got completely taken away, replaced by programs intending to blow up space?

From 1:38:46 on the Beastcast;

Vinny: We also have the luxury of half jokingly poo pooing it because we are going. We've lined up we're going, we've got our plane tickets...

Austin: I'm excited. This is my first E3.

Vinny: Ever?

Austin: Yeah, I spent years telling myself maybe I don't really need to go to E3, academically maybe I'll go out to GDC or something, that's what I really want to go out to, but I'm excited about E3, I'm excited to be able to, you know, talking to developers and they're ready with their spiels for their games and looking at stuff I haven't seen before and putting my hands on stuff, there's stuff I really hope is playable in some form.

Alex: It's something everyone in games should go to at least once in their life.

Austin: And I'm glad I'm going with you guys with this system and not the sprinting [around].

So yeah apart from him wanting to go to GDC more, you rather misremembered that conversation.

Yeah, covering E3 like GB is doing sounds so much better than the normal news grind most sites still do. Going from conference to conference, writing news articles from those conferences and afterwards etc. I can certainly see why Brad and the others are so vocal about preferring this new way of doing things. It probably also gets them a lot more traffic and they're able to actually create content while they previously would just be at the various conferences. Win-win.

Really good Bombcast this week by the way.

also, (still catching up with beastcast over here) i did not expect to be down with the bakalar but i am!

I was surprised about how much I enjoyed hearing Jeff on the cast. Maybe it was because Vinny was leading the conversation, but he worked really well. I even missed him when he wasn't on the second episode.

edit://

I'm looking forward to that, just as soon as I finish feasting on the best podcast on the site, Alt+F1. I was right, the cast is better than the race.
