The Guardian: The Last Guardian will be at E3

I kind of wish this hadn't leaked actually. I would have literally spat out my drink if Sony dropped the mic with this news on stage.

Ah well

I'm glad it leaked. No pictures or real confirmation, but now there is something exciting to discuss the rest of the week. E3 discussion was pitiful on Monday.

Uh. let's not be THAT optimistic yet. It could be just a, you know, 100% false rumor, not 'leak'.

and leak or not, if TLG actually shows on E3 conference, metldown on the forum would be glorious. (server shutdown imminent)

I have no inside information or anything, and honestly I don't even give a shit about TLG outside the fact that it's a massively hyped, highly elusive game (which is always very interesting), but everything about this leak sounds right. Sony will end their press conference with a TLG trailer and then, just to shock us further, segue right into a gameplay demonstration.

I want what Huber Hype said.

Guy walks out on stage... Complete silence... Just says: TLG is available for download now. Then walks off.

WIll shave my hair off if this happens

I have to say... Team ICO did ICO and SotC and those games were absolutely breathtaking.

The fact that TLG is being finished by Cerby's team or Santa Monica or whoever makes me a little uneasy...

I want Ueda's game, completely unfiltered and unchanged.

Maybe if That Game Company was doing it I would sleep better.

This post makes no sense.

You want to take TLG away from SonyJapan because there is a rumor that they are working on the game again? It's the same people! Team ICO is Sony Japan. Ueda used to work for SonyJapan and now is contracted by SonyJapan to make TLG. "Cerny's Team" is the people who work at SonyJapan. Santa Monica is Sony Santa Monica, in California and is totally unaffiliated with TLG as far as I know. ThatGameCompany is an independent third party company, and are making a new multiplatform game.

Hahaha oh wow I left this thread on page 10 last night.

Should've known how much it would blow up!

Can't wait to see me some Trico hopefully in a couple days.

What I meant was this:

Back in 2013, Shuhei Yoshida said that Santa Monica was helping with TLG. This seems to have been refuted, but that's not the point I was trying to make.

When I wrote Cerny's Team, I meant "under Cerny's direction", which is most likely not the case anyway but I suppose it's possible.

Since Ico and SotC are mostly atmospheric/artsy type games, I was just thinking that if development was changing hands (which it seems it actually hasn't all along) I would rather, if choosing between 2 evils, it went to someone like That Game Company due to them being able to do artsy/atmospheric games very well.

But, thank you for reading my post :) I always feel so invisible on NeoGaf.

I heard a rumor The Last Guardian is gonna be released at retail for 6 different platforms: PS1 (CD) - PS2 (DVD) - PSP (UMD) - PS3 (25 GB Blu-ray disc) - PS VITA (card) - and PS4 (50 GB Blu-ray disc). TLG will also be available, streaming, on platforms capable of using PS Now. Of course the PS4 version can be played on VITA thanks to Remote Play and there will be an extra, extra special version in VR for Morpheus on PS4.

Finally, The Last Guardian: Remastered is entering early development in native 4K and will be a PS5 launch game.

Funny thing is that upon reading your post the first time, this is exactly how I understood it. It's part of my main concerns, too.

By the way, I've been part of GAF since early 2007, before this site had reached 20,000 members (it's now at 150,000+), and I still feel like a Junior Member. My heart flutters every time I see my post highlighted as green. Cheers!

It's okay, there was a lot of confusion as not everyone understood the structure of Studio Japan and how they do work. Didn't help that someone posted a rumor thread on it, which only confused even more people.

Also, about you being invisible, I wouldn't take it personally or as a commentary on the quality of your posts. If that Cerny Rumor thread proved anything, people don't read the majority of the posts in threads. There were numerous posts explaining the situation, and yet a lot of posts (maybe even the majority) were all about how shit Knack was and how worried they were about it. A mod even explained on the first page. I do get where you were coming from with thinking Cerny might be leading. But that isn't how I took the podcast link. It as that Cernys team would go back to work and finish up TLG. Well yeah, they are apart of the same studio, and the team that worked on Knack were made up of the people that worked on Ico and SoTC since it's the same studio. So of course they would go back to work on TLG after Knack.

I think you are petty cool :)

All these years of believing and never giving up will finally pay off, this will be one of THE very best moments in E3 history and I'll be watching it unfold live with the NeoGAF error screen ;)

But please please please please to all insiders and Sony employees, in the name of the holy church of Kaz, don't leak anything until it happens!

The guy on Twitter said that was a brain fart while not changing his stance on TLG. Raises an eyebrow though.

I think what was argued, was that it was a generic piece on what would be the best shown, rather than the guy saying it would be 100% there. He basically was writing a piece and assumed it would be there without realizing it had been delayed.

As opposed to making a claim that they have a source saying TLG will be there. Take what you will from that. But it is odd you are right.

The whole argument is that Guardian is a reputable source and has in the past, not posted on rumors without a legit source. But I'll be honest, I don't read them, and they aren't usually a breaking news game source with a history of hsving insider info.

I'm not too concerned about whether the rumor is true or not.

I'm just happy that, after all my years of gaming, I still know how to feel...

If TLG shows up at E3, I have a feeling it will be playable only behind closed doors (if at all) though the public will probably get some video. The current build has a hilarious bug that kind of undermines the theme of the game if it happens.

Hideo Kojima also retweet the news about The Last Guardian.

It seems he is also interesting that TLG maybe will be at E3. XD

More fuel for the fire:

So, I was listening to the PS Nation Podcast (Episode 427: PrE3) and at 49 minutes in, Stewart Gilray (of Just Add Water) heavily implied that Mark Cerny's team (the team that built Knack?) might be the team finishing development on the The Last Guardian.

TLG devs moved back to finishing TLG after finishing Knack

At this point I don't even think the game can live up to the hype anymore outside of what's generated due to it actually existing.

Cerny team finishing the project

Yep. Although to be clear, Cerny team = Studio Japan Devs and the same team that was already working on TLG, but left to help on Knack. They are all from the same studio. Instead of saying Cernys team, it's really: TLG devs moved back to finishing TLG after finishing Knack (since there is so much confusion on this)

Of course it can't. People won't be able to divorce the game from how long it took to came out. Even if the game is really good on its own right, there will be some saying it wasn't good enough to wait this long for it.

The reality is, the game wasn't being worked on constantly for all the years it was delayed. But it will always be associated with that amount of time. Plus we don't even know how different the game is from the original vision.

Either way, it's best to just adjust expectations and try to view it the way any new game is out. Judge it the way you would judge any game. Some won't be able to. Is what it is.

Done.

Oh it will... You'll see... The screams from the E3 crowd will be glorious and go down in history.

We only need to fear that it might look different than before and not in a good way. But I'm not too worried on that^^

I wonder if it would eclipse the applause when Sony announced that the PS4 would play used games and would retail at $399?
