Dishonored 2 seemingly accidentally confirmed for Bethesda conference on Twitch

Now we are all press sneak fucks.

This might be my favourite leak of all. A game I've been hoping for since 2012, revealed by a Naked-Gun-esque calamity where the developers were discussing the lame comedy bit they were going to perform on stage that was going to get absolutely no laughs anyway. The spirit of E3 is strong with this one.

Dishonored 2, Fallout 4 and possibly Mass Effect 4? Best month ever? It is for me, that's for sure (not to mention my 2nd kid arriving 2 days ago)!

They better go batshit crazy in terms of the environment size, the first Dishonored was hamstrung by the consoles lack of RAM and the game suffered for it. I'm talking Thief 2 'Life of the Party' level of exploration.

Truly. That level is the apex of open-ended stealth levels; there's really no reason why every mission can't be of that scope 15 years later.

YES. I love Dishonored because of the freedom it offered in terms of approaching situations, but just imagine how much more freedom we would have in bigger and more detailed environments.

The best part will forever be "HA HA HA", almost telling the person informing them to get the hell out and stop interrupting them so they could finish up planning the conference.

Wait that has to be an intentional leak, right? Accidentally going live on twitch and just in this moment talking about a secret game sounds a bit too crazy for me.
Too many people around here give these companies way too much credit. Accidents happen and they sometimes happen at the worst possible times.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I hope they don't go too overboard with explaining the more mystical aspects of the lore and keep the first game's ambiguity intact. I really liked how in the first game a lot was implied but never outright explained.

I'll be super excited if this turns out to be true!! Dishonored is one of my favorite games from last gen; I loved everything about it, especially the art style.

Predictions as who we'll play as?

Corvo?
Daud?
an adult Empress Emily? This would be perfect imo, since she's seen the Outsider in her dreams already. Plus Corvo could train her.

The one thing I wish is for these types of games, like Dishonored, where they say "oh, you can play it how you want! Go in fast, or stealthy, then they make the basically good ending only for stealth players. Would not hamper them in such a way, don't tie the endings to one-playstyle and then handicap the others.

I enjoyed Dishonored, but I felt like I "HAD" to play it stealthly and all of these "cool" toys that they give you to play with, the powers an dcombat moves, I had to ignore most of those because I didn't want a bad ending.

If you want to tie the ending of a game to something do it through story choices and other elements that any playstyle has a chance to choose an dmake such choices.

I just wnat all playstyles to feel free to play how they want without feeling like it's being punished.

You may wonder why you should be excited about this.

So to show you why, here is a screenshot from Dishonored

GOD. DAMN. It still looks great.

Goddammit Dennis, this post is going to make me want to reinstall Dishonored again, isn't it?!

Such a gorgeous game, and so undemanding hardware-wise I was easily able to run it at 144FPS with the crazy 8xSGSSAA that PC GAF recommended.

I had this problem too. It's like that completionist itch on overdrive. I have so many cool things! But I cannot use them.

You also can't unlock all the different abilities in one go; the game's built for multiple playthroughs. My first run was a leisurely, no-kill, explore everything affair that took well over twenty hours, then my second run was a three hour sprint chopping up everything in my way. I loved going back through all the levels, finding every possible route, trying out every weapon and power, killing everything in the most creative ways I could think of.

ITT people who want a pat on the head for playing a mass murderer.

The whole thematic point of Dishonored is the allure of the Outsider's power and its consequences--those who embraced it (Daud, Granny Rags) were corrupted by it and destabilized the world around them. The game seduces the player into using thrilling murderous powers, and then shows them what their violence has wrought. It's not poor design, it's intended to give aggressive players an uncomfortable realization.

Well said. As if there aren't already a glut of games with "powers" that do met you go on rampages.

Dishonored was pretty mediocre in my opinion. Not hyped.
I'm with you. Dishonored had a lot of problems. Like... a pretty thin plot. I wouldn't have a problem with the game rewarding the stealth playthrough if stealth was actually fun. Yeah let's just wait for the bad guys to move out of the way so we can sneak by.... much fun.

The game was at its best when you went on a supernatural wizard killing spree. Who cares about a "bad ending" when the plot was nothing to write home about anyways.

Also, the game never ever lived up to the badassery that was this theme song.

So.... I'm not sure how much I'm looking forward to another. I had fun with Dishonored but I was really hoping for a more atmospheric stealthy assassination type game. The tone of the actual game felt wildly different than that.

Did you never Blink? That whole mechanic was designed specifically so you never had to wait for guards to follow their patrol routes. It's the only power in the game that you're guaranteed to have at all times. It's the bread and butter of Dishonored, like jumping is to Mario.

Yeah, Blink was pretty much the only thing you could do for the whole game if you're doing a stealth playthrough. But you can't always blink through a situation and in those cases, you just need to wait for guards to move. And if a guard actually does see you... you just blink away and they forget they ever saw you in the first place.

I know people here don't like open world but I really hope they go for it. Metal Gear Solid looks to be benefiting a lot from it and I think Dishonoured would too.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Totally expected, and totally awesome. Loved the first game and its DLC, very excited for a sequel on improved hardware.

When the game design impacts you not being able to play the game using the actual tools they provide and lessens the "fun" out of it, that to me is poor design.

There are many ways they could have designed the game and powers to allow people to play both ways while still maintaing those choices and story elements.

Look at Infamous for a prime example. You have good/bad powers, but both allow you to play agressively if you wish.

They could have easily had more powers or tied story elements to actual choices you make in the narrative rather then giving you a lot of powers and then saying "Here's a bunch of neat tools to use.....but if you use them you'll get a terrible ending!

It'd be like if Half Life 2 punished you for using the gravity gun or such. Give you awesome 'fun" gameplay tools and then punish you while not actually offering "alternatives" to things to play how you want while still maintaining that choice that Infamous or others allow.

I mean the issue is that in the game you had all these powers, and the VAST majority were all "bad" to use, instead of offering the player "good" ways to use their powers it was mostly "look but don't touch" instead with no alternatives.

This just isn't true. Most of the supernatural powers (Blink, Dark Vision, Bend Time, Possession, Windblast, Agility) were non-lethal. It was only the rat swarm and turn-bodies-to-ash one you'd miss out on, and all the weapons and gadgets had lethal and non-lethal variants.

This is the game that turned non-lethal assassinations into almost mini-missions of their own, figuring out the sequence of events necessary to deal with all your main targets without having to kill them. Things like eavesdropping on guards and reading books to find out you could brand the High Overseer as a heretic, turning him into an outcast. Or the whole investigation at the fancy dress ball, talking to all the guests to work out which of the three identically-dressed sisters is your target, and then convincing her to follow you out to the sewers to be abducted. As opposed to the lethal option of "just stab'em"; if anything there was more attention paid to to non-lethal side of gameplay.

Hope it pans out. Absolutely loved the first one and Daud's DLCs. Easily one of my favorite games of last ten years or so.
