Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

If you are curious, here's a quick comparison.

At a glance CA is gone, grain is gone, DoF is gone, blueish tint is gone, some kind of bloom (batmobile lights) seems to be gone.
On the flipside all that post processing really helps with jaggies.

That's because you've turned off the DOFAndBloomEffect component of Unreal, and the child UberPostProcessEffect. You've lost scene colour, tonemapping, bloom, DoF, CA and motion blur.

I played it on launch. Unity is better now for sure but even at launch I'd say it was a better port.

Though I didn't run into the notorious missing faces bug like some did.

Undoubtedly, even with the faults unity had it was still pretty playable at launch on PC.

fog and paper turned off only and MSI shows DX11 for me. if i turn them on the overlay wont show for me unfortunately ive no idea why. maybe someone else with it fully working can try?

I found Unity very playable with good frame rates at launch, I then tried the xbox one version and discovered the meaning of pain there.

I am going to say Batman is pretty bad, worst I have seen and I have a smoother experience. MK X is close with it's launch issues.

Looks horrible with everything turned off in my opinion.

Absolutely.
I wish there were toggles for just CA and filmgrain.

Yup yup. I was just demonstrating that it is indeed possible to get rid of CA, but at the cost bunch of other things.

You're not really refuting what they said. Their overlay also didn't work, they only got the info because they had a keyboard overlay.

Would need someone that's running all 4 effects and the overlay working to really know. Though I'd say smoke and paper forcing overlays off is a sign something weird is going on.

Holy nope Batman. I know this is a known quantity now, but hadn't realised just HOW bad it was. Realised I was running on the Nvidia driver that was out before AK, running at an okay rate, could keep a locked 30 with some slight judder. Just tried the set that were supposedly compatible with the game to see if that helped anything. FPS plummets to 23 just panning the camera.

I have a glitch where the default suit no longer shows damage progression. Though, it will in certain in-game cinematics. Really strange. Probably has something to do with switching between skins.

Be warned.

And the misinformation and knee-jerk reactions continue.

Could there be a difference between the Gameworks settings? There are 4 settings, 2 are nvidia exclusive and 2 are available to AMD users. I could imagine that the nvidia exclusive effects make the game switch to DX10?

Could be. The game does require you to restart when those two are enabled. But I'd also imagine TotalBiscuit would have verified that.

"Normal" textures are maxed out textures. Basic effects (AO) missing. Advanced settings (rain shaders) missing. Very poor performance....thanks for that beta! I guess the final build is going to be released 2016 as DLC, 25 bucks.
I`m curious to see performance when those effects are build in someday...remember GTA 4?

Someone may have already tried this, so my apologies if it's been mentioned already, but has anyone tried unparking all of their CPU cores with something like ParkControl?

I remember having some pretty bad microstuttering in the Metro games that was fixed by temporarily unparking all of my cores. I seriously doubt it'll help with the macrostuttering where the game completely freezes, but it may help with the smaller stutters.

I'm about 15 hours in and it just seemed to be getting worse and I just can't bare it now. It's freaking awful!
I got this from a 3rd party so I can't refund it. I guess I'm just going to have to wait out for a patch. This sucks though, hope we get something this week.

That's basically what I have (770GTX 2GB, same card).

So you'll get 40~60fps with all gameworks off, 35~55 with smoke effect

25Fps or lower when in the batmobile.

And due to your 2gb limitation, you have moments of extreme fps drop (sub 15) when you constantly hit the vram limit

Will try when I get home. Not sure how much help it will be due to how the issues seem to be largely VRAM based but... won't know till we try.

Any improvement would be good at this point.

Makes no difference. AO is even there in the INI settings and it is turned on already. So something is either broken or hard coded.

AO can be forced with the Mortal Kombat X AO compatibility bit though (with a flickering, buggy and unsatisfying result).

I just realized by reading this that I might have the same issue. I'll double check for sure when I get back from work.

For those that tried to play the last AssCreed game. Which is worse?

This is at least playable, or it was for me last night.

This is worse.

AC Unity was pretty playable at 30fps (aside from some freezing some people had) but at least it looked amazing, and better than any console version.

This one runs like shit, and looks like shit, on even much much much better HW than console's.

how many compat bits have you gone through? I tried a couple and they all either did not work, or caused the game to run @ 1 fps a second or so.

Also on AC Unity, my 980GTX SLI can run this game constant 60fps max settings 1080p FXAA.

Arkham Knight seems like it was meant to be 30fps thanks to the cap. I mean why would they do that. I expect to run this way better than Witcher 3.

Man, MGS V PC should not be bugged like this game.

All we got was a "We heard some people were upset, look at the specs and play at 1080p/capped 30fps". No words on a patch or any apology.
According to Klepek's article over on Kotaku, it was more like "We heard some people were upset, look at the specs and play at 720p/capped 30fps".

No way. Look at ground zeros, these guys know what they're doing.

Still don't preorder it though just in case.

Curious, how many people with performance problems have the 30fps ini tweak. Does removing it help at all?

Leaving it capped has been more stable and the textures actually pop-in for me. Seems like if the GPU is using all its' power to push frames it forgets to stream in textures.

I just tried a few. Mirror's Edge did not work. I don't remember exactly what bits I tried (yesterday), but Mortal Kombat X was the only one that produced any kind of AO. I tried MKX because it is the same developer of that port as this one and UE3.

Edit: There was a performance hit with MKX bit, but nothing too bad. Unplayable mostly due to flickering of the AO and other assets.

Did you restart your PC? Maybe the solution really was to turn your PC off and on again

Nah I don't think so, I rebooted my PC multiple times yesterday (I had some driver issues).

For what it's worth, I played another three hours just now and (besides some heavy stuttering for 30 seconds) it was stable at 31fps and drops were within acceptable range (~ 27/28). Still issues with textures sometimes loading too late though.

Anyway, I'm feeling a little cocky now and I'm thinking about unlocking the FPS, see if it's possible to have a higher frame-rate and maintain stability at the same time.

Well I'm glad RockSteady didn't gimp the PS4 port due to PC.

So, I've got an 870m laptop that can run AC unity fine, but has to be in Windowed mode for arkham knight, because in full screen it just blinks in and out of existence with the sound cutting in and out. What the fuck?

Played through the game on my SSD with a bit of stuttering. Just tried playing it on my HDD and it's unplayable. This is with the 30fps cap.

Who did the original Arkham Asylum PC port? I remember that one being solid.

Arkham City had a ton of problems at launch, too, especially for AMD cards, though.

What's next, core parking tips?

Ha! I fucking knew it would come. Like clockwork.

I emailed GMG requesting a refund and after a little back and forth they finally sent me this message:

We know that you have experienced problems with Batman: Arkham Knight, which we know is frustrating. Rest assured that we are speaking with Warner Bros, who are working to resolve the problems. We ask you to be patient and wait for the update, which we hope will be released shortly. The link below is the official response from WB Interactive.

http://community.wbgames.com/t5/Support-for-PC/PC-Performance-issues-we-hear-you/m-p/571341

We have also detailed a bunch of tweaks, which you can do to your machine, which may get you up and running sooner.

http://blog.playfire.com/2015/06/batman-arkham-knight-pc-guidelines.html

We want you to enjoy, your game, but if after the fix has been released, you still cannot play your game, we will process your request for a refund.

Chiara

While I'm glad that they didn't just flatly say no, I'm wondering how long is acceptable to wait for this "fix" they are assuming WB will respond with...1 week? 2 weeks?
