TF2 Gun Mettle Update - CSGO style Skins for TF2 weapons and new maps

I can't play Suijin at all now apparently, I get a million missing material errors and some edge-of-map walls are invisible.

I got one of those contract cases and sold it for 8 dollars. I hope that was a good decision. I'd hate to learn that they almost always drop like, super rare unusual stuff or something.

Happens.

Not sure how to fix it, quit to main menu or relaunch the game.

Yeah restarting the game is the only way to fix it for me when it happens on Borneo.

Apparently it happens because instead of taking all the custom assets from the new maps and putting them into the TF2 file system like they normally do they just took the map files from the workshop with the custom assets packed in and put them in the game.

Hopefully sometime next week they'll properly integrate the maps into the game so it stops happening.

I got a concealed killer weapons case for the third contract, and could have probably gotten $7-8 had I been quick enough. People are rapidly trying to undercut each other so I only got like $6.27, but that still puts me at $10.19 total from the 3 contract sales. I was probably lucky though.

There'd be no reason to remove the maps. Maybe remove them from official server rotation, but outright removing the maps from the files is not only pointless, but it would only serve to anger the community.

Especially after denying Snowplow once before, only for it to come back, and then go away again, would be a rollercoaster of stupid that the community would feel outraged over.

There is definitely a point to removing them, which is reducing the game's already enormous file size.

Eurgh - I reformatted when I upgraded my PC and it won't let me sell the skins I've got. Ultimate 1st world problems.

Three contracts done. Two mediguns (one from a case, looks pretty neat) and a butt-ugly sticky launcher. It's just a kind of copper or rust tone. I really want one of the heavy and/or pyro weapons.

It's humorous watching spies struggle without the massive crutch the old Dead Ringer was. They can run away now, but it no longer seems like a license to dominate in the hands of an average-skilled player

I'd say those games are more the exception than the rule.

But many of the other major FPS games that come out on the PC like Battlefield, Call of Duty and Titanfall have huge file sizes. I'm sure Battlefront 3 will also be huge.

Honestly the file size of 3 maps, even ones with custom assets like these 3, isn't going to make a big difference in the file size of the game. Removing the maps due to file size isn't really a justifiable reason to remove them in my opinion.

Another 90 cent skin. 2.50 total sales thus far.

I got a crate on my 3rd contract that I sold for just under $6, one reskin I sold for about 90 cents and another one I sold for about 20 cents so I've made money so far.

Then I went and bought all three new taunts cause I really like this update. Oh well.

$7.77 total from the first week of a $5.99 investment. Not as good as some, but not bad at all. From here on out I can just keep the weapons if they look cool, or if I manage to grab another few crates maybe I can get a balance for the next steam sale.

This is going for 3 months? Geez.

Have they said whether or not there will be more skins added as time goes on? Not seeing anything that gets my dander in the air

This is fun, but the quickmatch search is just horrible. slow and never finds servers :/
Thankfully Valve apparently added the official Valve servers back to the normal server list so you can sort by players, ping, etc. and just go to a good one.

At least, until it changes map and materials start breaking and you have to restart the entire game and do it again. :p

is _registered the tag for the official servers?
I can feel the addiction again, ugh! ;-)

If they follow the CSGO pattern, when this 'operation' (csgo's word, not sure what to call it in tf2) is over in 3 months, a new one will start with new skins and a new $5 thing to buy to get access to it.

Technically it's a $5.99 thing! (at least for TF2)

That may be true too. I just filtered by the "valve" tag but I don't know which is better.

I believe _registered means the server is eligible to be found via quickplay, but it doesn't mean the server is an official Valve server. Filter by the valve tag instead

Okay, thanks. Hopefully one day I'll see something to work towards

I took a long break from this game (four or five years, I think) but this update has brought me back. There are so many new weapons that I haven't ever seen before, so that's cool... though I don't have any of them so that sucks. The contracts thing is pretty rad too. I managed to make my money back by selling a crate on my third contract.

Suijin is terrible, how do those maps get choosen?
I turned in my first contract without knowing that there are bonuses :(
Opened one case which was a mistake (8€ for case, 3€for weapon...) But it's okay.

So there were 3 contracts so far, right?

Is there a weekly time limit on completing contracts, or can you do them between now and the end of the event? I think I'll need to play 24/7 from now until September to get the engineer bonus contract points.

You can do them whenever. In the FAQ it says someone who buys the pin/operation/whatever at any time during the event will have all previous weeks contracts available to do, so it seems like they don't expire.

I haven't gotten any CSGO operations but someone told me it's the same way there -- if you buy an operation late you get a ton of missions available immediately.

Is it too late to start now? Preferably I'd like to make my money back eventually.

As long as you buy the entry ticket before September (cut-off date for entry) you're fine, as you'll be given any contracts you missed from previous weeks.

Though it's hard to say for sure with fluctuating prices, if you have decent luck you should be able to make back your money after a few contracts, I personally was able to pay off the entry fee (and some) with a case I got with my third contract, though that's just my personal experience.

Ah what the heck, I'm gonna buy it with money I got from selling cards and genuine/vintage items :p

Tried out the update yesterday and the DR nerf is shit. I thought being unable to extend my cloak duration was gonna be the killer but I apparently missed the part where the DR only gives you 50% damage immunity on the first hit now (as opposed to 90% before).

Now you pretty much always have to be at max health, you can't do anything if a sniper or demo sees you, and you can't be aggressive with multiple dr's in a short period of time since your health goes down so quickly. Probably the worst watch of the bunch now, which sucks for me since it was my favorite one to use.

As far as I've heard the bonus CP only affects your badge progression. So it shouldn't help/hurt your mission reward drops. And yeah we've gotten 3 contracts so far

Currently, there's less than 125 of the Gun Mettle cases on the market, and they're going for 8 or 9 bucks so if you're lucky enough to get one as a drop (anecdotally, I think it was like 1 out of 5 or 6 of us over in the TF2 thread dropped one) you can make your money back no problem. It's only been a week, it's definitely not "too late" to start. Hop on in!

Though I initially thought the bonus points would increase the chance for a rarer drop, I'm thinking it's just for badge points now as well.
