PSN is a piece of shit.

You can't defend this crap,

I had a much better experience back on PS3. So far on PS4 it has been absolutely terrible. I will not be renewing PS+. Just having Xbox Live will suit me fine whenever I want to play multiplayer.

It's becoming a weekly thing. Is PSN getting attacked again, or is there something wrong on Sony's side?

I find it hard to believe it's an attack thing this time, since it went down just as the store was updated with a ton of new content and sales.

How does this keep happening? Xbox Live and Steam never have these sort of issues, at least not this regularly

Their backend doesn't seem to be able to handle it as well. They need to spend more money on it, or revamp it somehow.

I seem to be immune to this downtime you all get. Currently racing online in Driveclub fine.

It usually doesn't impact online play for me either, but the store being down happens far, far too often.

Their networks are probably better equipped, but Shuhei also said a while back that PSN is attacked every single day, to varying degrees. Maybe XBL and Steam aren't targeted as much?

Doubtful. I'm sure Steam and Xbox Live take just as much beating from people it just comes down to how well they can mitigate it.

If its sale related i do hope you've seen what happens during Steam Summer Sales and whatnot. #RIPSteamServers

However PSN seems to work fine here. Logged in and could launch games fine in MP.

Geez, did GoW3 bring an influx of new people? I really wish Sony would put more money into their network infrstructure

This holiday is going to be shit for everyone. Halo, COD, Battlefront influx of new console owners and the dreaded Lizard Squad.

...hate me...
Was playing on my American account, it went down.

Switched to european (Portuguese) PSN and it works.

Just my feedback, this is inexcusable anyway.

I moved all my TV apps to X1 last week. Kept trying to watch Silicon Valley on HBO, got denied one time too many.

It's a bad network. It's just bad. It's the summer of PS4 for Arkham Knight and the summer of X1 for TV apps.

Now I'm even thinking of buying a Kinect.

It was down for 10-15 minutes, so you probably missed it.

I don't think the TV apps go through the network at all. They always work the same when PSN is down.

If it was down for 10-15 I dont see the issue as im used to this with other services like steam as new sales comes up.
However PSN do need a better infrastructure.

Back in for me too....got Power Stone.

Only 10-15 min, that is all it took for some of these posts in here? And most saying it was just the store, they were still gaming online? Oh man, lol. Keep is "real" gamers.

People aren't psychic....and some people have limited play time. No way to know it was going to be down for a short period of time, and it's often down longer.

Plenty of reason to be a bit bothered when it happens.

Edit* Also, it was 30 minutes at least. I saw the game sale and instantly went to sign in it at 4:10 (here) I was getting "sign in failure" till 4:40.

As someone who uses their xbox for TV, while using the kinect frequently and successfully. Dont, unless you can get one cheap.

$60 on Craigslist? Is it worth it for voice control with media apps? I wont' be doing the 'xbox on' thing, I want power saving.

(I sold mine for $140 before they unbundled it, I bought the Titanfall bundle when it went on sale for $450, which put my Titanfall bundle at $360 out of pocket)

I don't think the TV apps go through the network at all. They always work the same when PSN is down.

Not at my house. I can't count the number of times my HBO GO and Netflix has frozen up while still working on my desktop. This only happens to me on PS4 and PS3.

EDIT: During the holiday PSN DDOS attacks my video services were unusable during those exact same days.

People really need to get their priorities straight. Instead of frothing at the mouth and immediately contacting every single outlet to complain and rant, how about waiting a few minutes? I used to work in tech support and it was insane how impatient people are. TV service drops and within 5 minutes the lines are completely clogged with people calling in. The wait goes from 0 to over an hour in the blink of an eye. 5 minutes after that, TV service is back up. Just freaking wait a bit. If cable goes down or if PSN goes down, the first people that know about it are the providers and it's not because you called attention to it.

It does seem to be far too easy for people to cry foul against PSN, when you get angry posts over a 10-15 store downtime.

PSN does need to have less unexpected downtime, but stuff like this is a non-issue.

Well, if it happens enough, people get a little skittish at any sign of a drop. It's understandable, IMO.

Still having issues on my end. So sad how this has been going on for this long and nothing has been done on Sonys side. Getting a bit out of hand, honestly thinking to stop supporting Sony and the PS4 until this gets straightened out and just buy a PS4 again in the future.

I know myself cannot cause a change but hey i guess everything counts.

y'all should be ashamed
Where are y'all located? There was just a sporadic internet outage in my area (Texas). Google and Amazon hosted sites wouldn't load, Dropbox was down, etc.

Seems to be all good now though. Probably 20 minutes?

South Florida and I'm still getting maintenance errors on the store front.

EDIT: Back up after over an hour.

PSN customer service is literally the worst

I buy the Destiny expansion pass for my brother but I make a mistake and I buy the PS4 version

I try to get a refund so I can get the PS3 version to get both but PSN is down

I try again the next day and they say it'll take three to five days

I finally get refunded today but the sale is over

So goddamn stupid

This man I was going to switch to the ps4 for black ops 3 but if it's down every week like this I might as well just stay on the xbone. PSN is starting to become a joke.

That is an easy way to take the responsibility of the down time out of their backs. "but ohh, we are attacked EVERY day", like they are the only ones.

PSN is a failure on every front. Terrible download speeds, frequent unexpected downtime, consistently down on high load days, terrible customer service, and no protections for customers like refunds or even cancellable pre-orders. It's a goddamn embarrassment and by far the weakest link in Sony's gaming ecosystem.

My download speeds certainly aren't terrible. Here's a capture of downloading The Vanishing of Ethan Carter tonight.

I haven't experienced frequent downtimes either, or terrible customer service, and pre-orders can be cancelled in Europe, as they're paid a couple of days before the release. So, none of these is a fact for everyone.

Either Sony is getting DDOS'ed constantly or the way they have designed their network is garbage. I have no idea why when the US is having issues it affects my main JP account. Surely they can't possibly be contacting the same datacenter.

Definitely needs more investment. Especially their CDNs, I downloaded batman off steam (30GB) in under an hour. You can forget doing that on PSN.

Yeah, the download speeds is another thing that just recently hit me. It used to be fine, but now it's all over the place. Sometimes even a small 500MB patch downloads at a crawl and ends up taking hours.

Surely the risk of getting caught and slapped with 2yrs of probation is enough to deter LS from ruining Christmas... Again

In the case of Sony, I can't imagine these weekly issues have anything to do with attacks. It seems like it's always happening when they update the store...

Doesn't it go down for maintenance/store update every Tuesday for a certain amount of time? Thought that this has been happening for years.

I think you are actually helping to point out how wildly inconsistent it is. It works fine for me most of the time, but sometimes it will go extremely slow. When you are paying for a service, it should probably have more consistency across the board.

Some of the people in here are also known xbox fans.

Hasn't the store always gone down for maintenance to update sales and products?
