Journey (PS4) |OT| Greatest Hits

I didn't realize this had an online component.

Yes, it does. The game randomly pairs you up with another player, and you are only allowed to interact or communicate with the other player via the game mechanics. Spoiler warning:
you do find out who your companion was, but he/she is only revealed to you at the end of the game
.

For all the talk of "blending singleplayer and multiplayer" that's been going on since 2013, no other game pulls it off as well as Journey, which was released before that became a thing.

Do you have a PS+ subscription? I imagine that the game would require one for companions to show up.
Yeah I do, it's likely that there just aren't enough people playing ATM.

Not a fan of
that stealth section where you lose parts of your scarf for being caught :( felt bad man.

Just wanted to chime in as I also own it, right now on the Sony website tells me the PS4 is unavailable for purchase, but when I click "Tell Me More" it says because I already own it.

So looks like we cannot preload it if we already owned it, but I am confident it will be unlocked tomorrow for the PS4.

That sounds great.

When I quoted it I saw the spoiler :/ It was worth it though.

There's no separate PS4 version showing for me, just PS3 ("Unavailable") and PS3|PS4 (NZ$19.16).

Same for me. I went through my purchase history on my account to ensure I was in the right account and I am - my purchase from 2012 is right there.

However when I go to the PS4 listing for Journey, it merely says '20% off, $18.36AUD' and Add to Basket. This is via PC, I'll have a look on the PS4 at lunch time or after work tonight.

Hopefully it is something that will be rectified in good time (posters above seem to be hinting that it is something being worked on?)

Everyone's having the same issue - we're guessing that people with newer versions of Journey are being tagged correctly in the system as having owned it. All the people who were there on launch day (or even in the beta like me) don't have access to it. Likely they just swapped out the files in the store a while back and forgot to have the new version check that.

That's the going theory anyway.

Hopefully it's all sorted soon. I wish to play this again on the PJ!

Do I need Playstation Plus to play this online?

I'm hoping not as my subscription recently expired and I have no plans on renewing it anytime soon as I'm focusing on my PC backlog right now. The online is not your typical outing and while it does play a significant role in the feel of the game, it's also a very minimalistic take on "multiplayer" and I feel having to pay for PS+ to access it would be a shame.

Yes you do. That's what it says in the store listing.

Kind of unfortunate for this particular game tbh, but well, most people have plus anyway.

Argh. Disappointing. Well at least I got to experience it how it's meant to be played on the PS3.

Just finished, first time playing.

Definitely one of the most visually stunning games I've ever played. It's also amazing how much emotional investment they got out of me considering the lack of any kind of dialogue. Really well crafted. The entire ascent up the mountain was so difficult, not in a mechanical sense but it was just arduous just like it should be. I winced a bit every time I was hit by one of those dragon things and I felt really bad when I no longer had any scarf left. And the ice slowly enveloping my character's body as his pace slowed to a halt. So much detail.

And then out of the storm and into the blue skies! Put a huge smile on my face, riding on the backs of those big creatures through waterfalls and up higher to the summit.

I didn't meet anyone online which is a shame. I imagine that would have the potential to be something very special.

Credits actually say I did meet someone :( I never saw them though, that's a shame.

oh wow, didn't know you can download this if you own the Ps3 version.
I'll definitely replay it for those 60fps

If, at any time, your game connects you with someone, it will say you met them. This includes if you fall behind someone way ahead of you or vice versa.

I definitely don't remember being told. Though looking at the "log" it kept, the screenshot it has of me meeting someone is right before the transition to a new area, so maybe I missed it because of that.

The people who already own the PS3 version can't pre order the PS4 version? So we have to buy the theme instead?

Hold the phones... I need Playstation plus?

........

So I don't get this game for free at all. Buzz. Kill.

Should have been treated like a free to play game. This game's online was good because it was a small, unintrusive addition... But would anyone actually pay to sub to play this online?

It is only me for whom that it's not coming up for 'free'?
I own it on PS3 and on the PC web store it still asks for me to pay for it.
I'm in Australia...

Edit: Potentially answered above?

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.

I still haven't met anyone online. Am I missing out on much if there's no one else in my game?

It gets a little oversold, imo. It's a nice experience, but I don't think it's essential, unless you're a really extroverted person who needs to have company all the time. Journey is essentially a personal experience. You run into other people occasionally, but your time with them is usually brief, and then you're solo again -- at least, that's how it was for me.

There were times that having another player around added something to the experience. There were also times when it was a hindrance, and I wanted to be rid of them and just experience the game myself.

Man, I can't imagine how horrible it would be to go through the first time without a companion.

My first time I went through the entire game with the same person. It felt so special. Thinking of how the game would have been alone, it wouldn't even compare. So much of the game's emotional impact comes from the self-created story of
meeting, playing with, discovering with, growing to want to protect and cling to, surviving hardships with, and then ultimately dying beside your lifelong companion as they too die, the feeling of helplessness and loss, and then reuniting with them in heaven for a heart bursting reunion. ahhhhhhh.
And if you are forced to play the game alone you miss all of that. Well, if I played it alone my first time I really doubt it would be even close to my favorite game of all time.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Pre-ordered Journey yesterday, and I can't wait to play through it once again. I got it when it came out on the PS3, but I created a new account on my PS4, so I had to buy it again. No biggie for me, though, since I don't mind supporting a company that has made one of my favorite games. I <3 Journey. Tomorrow can't come fast enough. :)

Since I can't pre-order this because I already own the PS3 version, does that mean I can't get the pre-order theme?

I just played through it and didn't meet anyone (Australia)

I'm playing now and still haven't met anyone either :( kind of a bummer but it's still beautiful and a great experience.

Journey is about
the metaphor of life, among other things. It does touch on other subjects, there's the religion talk, etc. But the whole game drives home the metaphor of life, the journey. And you can have multiple companions through your life, go through it all with mostly one person or be mostly solo. I don't think not meeting anybody makes the game lose its impact if you are aware that you could meet other people. It's simply another kind journey you can live.

Whether you like it or not, that you have an opinion on the matter, that you like supporting and being supported by someone else, creating your own language and developing a chemistry, or finding it tedious to have to wait on that other person at times, or be dragged too quickly at other times, it's all something of a success for what the game tried to achieve.

Seems like PS3-PS4 cross buy is still off.
I already have the game and can only buy it again with a PS+ 20% discount. Hopefully they'll fix this tomorrow.

Looking forward to downloading tomorrow and then not even playing until the weekend but just listening to Nascence on loop.

12PST tomorrow?

That's because the game is out, so yeah, people stream it. The problem many users, including me, are having is that the cross-buy option doesn't really seem to work yet. So those waiting are waiting for Sony to fix that issue so that we can download it for free.

If the game is new for you, just go ahead and get it, it's great.

Ditto. But I'm in U.S. so the game doesn't release for me until tomorrow.

If you bought the game digitally on PS3, you do get the game for free. You just miss out on the online component if you don't pay for PS+.

As you can tell from my impressions, it was definitely not "horrible" and there's definitely no need for you to feel sorry since I haven't really lost anything. I'm glad you had a great time playing this your first time, I did too! My experience was a little bit different but it was no better or worse because of it.
