Randy just needs to STFU and let someone else talk. He will never admit Aliens CM was crap and he duped anyone who bought it.
Perhaps this game was their small shred of hope for an excellent follow up to Aliens (because Alien3, Resurrection and Prometheus sure weren't).
oh hey Randy
The last one is mislabeled since the one without the HUD is the demo.
He's still kinda a douche, but do people expect him to say "the game sucks and we lied to you"? Because that would never happen, and now he has the legal proof that his company isn't liable. He admits that he's sorry that people didn't enjoy it, honestly i Feel like that's enough. The game sucked, i doubt he's happy about that. He made some OK points in the interview, i know im supposed to hate him tho.
EG goofed. RPS created the template for this type of interview when they roasted Peter Moulonrogue. Polite conversation isn't going to end with Mr. Pitchford admitting the game his team made was bad and that it was deliberately misrepresented in previews. Put him on the spot, present him with damning evidence, and watch him squirm.
Well asking him if he's a pathological liar is only gonna make him block you so there is no point to it.EG goofed. Sure, but you already have people whining in this thread about how "hostile" and confrontational the interview was. They need need kiddie gloves with these people.

The "reporter" comes off as a confrontational dick.
PC version is a perfectly average FPS, you might actually enjoy it.
Console versions are abominations, don't even bother.
Objection your honour, that's an insult to perfectly average 5/10 FPS. Even after being 'fixed' A:CM on PC is a pile of shit.
Well, it's boring as fuck, which is worse than anything else.
I had about as much fun with Colonial Marines as Duke Nukem Forever, which was absolutely zero. Both are 5/10 games on days I'm feeling generous.

Ah, the old "Some people really enjoy crap" defense. I get what he was saying, but it's not applicable here. That may work for say...Lollipop Chainsaw, Fuse, or Mindjack or something. Not for everyone, arguably not fun or enjoyable, but some people will always love it. It's a distraction however: they lied about their product, and have been blaming everyone else for the reception it got, showing a complete lack of honesty and self-reflection on what they did wrong.

Because consumers were tricked by his lies and false marketing? That might have something to do with it...I agree with him, I see nothing wrong with what he was saying. If the dude liked his creation why does he have to get hate for it? Makes no sense.
I wonder if he actually believes the story he invented about how Gearbox got its name. I'd completely forgotten about the article until someone brought it up in the previous Pitchford thread; it's still amusing.
I think what he's saying makes complete sense? I don't get the outrage.
I haven't played Alien Colonial Marines, nor have I seen the pre-release trailers and gameplay demos.
I can't remember every effect.
Those people probably prefer an interview to involve polite questions, some cheeses, a glass of wine, and a handjob.
You should call people out with facts, not ad hominems. Who is going to agree to being a pathological liar, especially if they are one?Press interviews (especially those that are investigative) should be handled on a per-case basis. Molyneux had a history of lies and duplicity, and RPS were well within their rights to call him out on this from the get-go, because the alternative (as you see here) was to softball at the beginning and get progressively more accusatory as time goes on, which rarely works.
People get angry and try to air out their impotent rage against easy targets online, but the moment a publication justifiably takes someone to task from the get-go, they cry that the reporters are being too harsh. You can't have it both ways.
How did anyone fall for that.I wonder if he actually believes the story he invented about how Gearbox got its name. I'd completely forgotten about the article until someone brought it up in the previous Pitchford thread; it's still amusing.

Neither do I think that beginning with a character assassination is a good way of getting someone to open up.
The point is that attacking someone's character isn't an effective interviewing technique because it causes them to instantly shut down and become defensive. That's OK if the purpose of the interview is just to publicly attack someone, but not so much if you want actual answers.Like I said, per-case basis. Molyneux assassinated his own character long before RPS showed up.
Legit question, did Randy himself lose 15m out of pocket? Or does he equate himself as gearbox.
When I read a few of the early posts in this thread, I thought, "Hey, I followed A:CM news rather closely during development, then bought it at launch, full price, for console no less. I have a personal opinion on it, some unique pre-launch and post-launch experiences, maybe I'll share them."
After reading six pages of this thread, I think it would be very wise to save my take for later. Maybe, what, a decade from now? That's how long it took for the hatred over Daikatana to die down, right?
