Conversely, many rush decks use things like annoy-o-trons to protect their squishy attack minions, but that doesn't make annoy-o-tron an aggro card. Even highly aggressive decks need some ways to protect their board.

It's really just Mech decks that use Annoyotrons (or Hobgoblin deck) for the synergy. You don't see Hunters using that card.

Ebola paladins sometimes do as well. I suppose that's covered by "Hobgoblin deck." But yes, that's why it's a good example. It shows that a card being included in some rush/aggro decks does not magically transform the card in to an aggro card.

Serious question: does anyone play a 3 drop in a control deck? Now that I"m on the topic, I'm honestly curious. I can think of so few.

The closest I can think of for my control decks (priest, handlock, warrior) is a BGH, which isn't really a 3 drop by any practical measure. My Warrior and Priest run Shield Block / Thoughsteal, which are perfectly good cards but are tempo black holes. Handlock sometimes uses earthen ring farseer, which is the closest I can think of.

I use Dark Acolyte and Shade of Naxxramas in priest, though I'm only a mid-teens ranked player.

* and SSI: Agent in Rogue, though it's rarely played on the third turn. Fan of Knives, too.

Quite correct and it is also extremely effective. There is nothing worse than lining up your trades to stabilise and then seeing an annoyotron come out to let them pour on the damage.

It also stands that just because face hunters do not run it, doesn't mean they shouldn't. People being too dumb to substitute a card into a deck because everybody else doesn't, is a different issue.

Holy fuck, can we get more cards? There are like 120 cards to go and we got maximum 30 days left.

They will ration them out very slowly and then just dump all the rest out the day before release for some unknown reason. I just don't get it. They should be putting out 4-5 cards a day and just be having people vote on the legendaries

That's what they did for GvG, right? Just dumped 60-70 cards simultaneously. Very strange.

We're disagreeing on semantics here.

Saying Acolyte is a control card is like saying Azure Drake is a control card; yes, both are used in some control decks, but they aren't the control part of the deck. The control parts of the deck are the big drops (obviously) along with things like Zombie chow which slow the game down and are anti-tempo.

Ok Acolyte is card draw. If you want to specify the cards more then yeah it doesn't control anything really, but all control decks require card draw to find their answers.

Warrior isn't punished as much as other classes if they miss a 3-drop or something because you can always gain life over your maximum with armor up. A new control 3-drop would make control warrior a lot better for sure.

Seeing all cards too early might make many hasty people think twice about buying those packs.

Savage Combatant could be nice but gets challenged pretty hard by Piloted Shredder. Clockwork Knight is trash.
Edit: But if played first the Inspire effect of Svage Combatant reverse challenges the Shredder so it might actually be quite good.

Savage Combatant seems cool! Not sure what decks would run the other one, although it's not bad.

Edit: Savage Combatant's art looks like a bad Dreamworks smiling hero animal character and now I can't unsee it.

Seems two pretty good cards. The druid one is essentially upgrading your hero power to a 3 attack 1 armor, which is a really good hero power. The biggest problem with it is that i don't think that druid want to play 4 drops that don't stick, and it trade bad with piloted shredder. On the other hand, if you have 6 mana this make your hero power kill shredder, which is pretty good. 3 damage hero power in general seems really good since it kill so many relevant things and is a fast clock vs no taunts.

The other one is much better than a 6/6 for 5 (because of many reasons, mostly: 5 attack is the spot where u want to be, so a 5/5 and +1+1 is better than 6/6 in a vacuum, then there's the added versatility as pseudo-charge, better trading, more resilient against single target removals etc...), and a Mech, which mean that could easily cost 4 and have other bonuses (tinkertown!). Current mech decks are really all-in-ish, but they could be a bit less (think midrange hunter) with this card and something else. In a sense it's a bit sad how much better is this compared to Fel Reaver because of Fel Reaver 8 attack, and this is a common. I predict this to see play in mech shaman if that is still a deck after TGT, as well as possibly mech mage.

Enemy Shaman must have been so salty, threw out a MCT when he had a zap-o-matic and 3 totems, I take the zap, swipe/hero power the rest and proceed to wreck face and win on 1 hp.

I'm more hyped for Hero Power Druid than Beast Druid. Fuck Beasts, bring on the 12 attack hero with Poisoned Blade from Blingtron.

Well at least the Druid card gives the +attack to your Hero so you can attack that turn.
Triggers on inspire so you'd have to play it on 6 to do that. It's actually decent value, 4-drop plus free Claw I guess, but the stats don't really fit Druid's game plan. Honestly if it wasn't for Shredder this could see play.

err, three more cards that won't see play. I'm not sure if I want to even spend 2000 gold on this set. Just going to craft Effigy at this point...

Finally some good cards. The druid card is pretty amazing especially when you factor in the changes to hero powers in the latest set. Great stats too.

Clockwork Knight is another solid mech card needed after mech has fallen off a bit. Great 5 drop on its own with a very selective Shattered Sun Cleric effect.

The Druid-card is pretty beastly for Arena, considering you often drop the same amount of stats in a Tallstrider or Brewmaster on an empty board. You don't even need to get hero power value for it to be decent, and if you get it behind a Druid of the Claw the next turn you can get some serious value out of hero powering + 4-drop on turn 6.

Might even have to draft Savagery again*

I think it will see play in constructed as well because a 4 mana 5 attack creature is just what druid needs after being so heavily defense oriented. With lock and load Ancient of War becomes trash tier once again so a more offense oriented druid is needed.

You guys are a bunch of naysayers. I remember people shitting on Antique Healbot when it first came out too.

Serious question: does anyone play a 3 drop in a control deck? Now that I"m on the topic, I'm honestly curious. I can think of so few.

2 Aldors, 2 Spider Tanks and 1 BGH in my Control Pally.
2 Blademasters, 2 Shadow Word: Deaths and 1 Acolyte in control Priest. Been working great so far.

Savage combatant seems like a very good arena card... but they better introduce some decent beast synergy for this card to be playable in constructed, 5/4 stat distribution isn't good at all in this meta.

yeah and that totem card for shaman. everything else is crap

I respectfully disagree about the priest card! It can roll out of control very fast if you let it be.

- Drop Holy Champion for 4 mana. Heal if you can. 3/5 or 5/5
- Next turn: Light of the Naaru x2, Heal hero power: 9/5 or 11/5 Holy Champion + 5/2 warden + 3/2 warden. Or Holy nova, or holy fire or do some circle of healing trickery

It's a good card IMO. Or at least playable.

Clockwork Knight could be good if you have mechwarpers alive. Maybe it could replace Yeti, but people don't seem to be running that these days, other than tempo mages.

For mech mage, 5 drop is contested by Azure Drake and Loatheb, you really need card draw to keep going and Loatheb does a lot more to protect your board than this card ever can. Still maybe this could have a place. It could be really great early play with mechwarpers, it's just that those are the first to die so it's not going to happen often.

There is Fel Reaver too, which you would rather play that earlier than this. MAybe it could replace it as Reaver has a huge risk attached to it and this one is a common card that more people can have/craft.

For mech shaman, it could be good again. Similar issues stand there as well. Maybe I feel differently about this one later, doesn't seem very exciting right now.

The 5/5 Mech is something I'd rather consider in something like Mech Rogue or Mech Warrior. Less aggro, more Screwjank Clunker and Iron Sensei. An early weapon -> Arcane Nullifier -> make the Nullifier a 3/6 that can't be targeted + a 5/5 body.

Well... I was thinking recently that Blizzard has been ignoring Mechs after GVG and it looked as if they were just pumping out minion types/mechanics and then forgetting about them but at least they're continuing to develop Mechs, somewhat.

edit: just realized from a comment on r/hearthstone, Savage Combatant is a buff to Webspinner and Hunter. 4 damage hero power...

Clockwork Knight seems like a kinda worse Upgraded Repair Bot. +1/+1 might be better for classes that don't benefit as much from high health minions. The mech tag probably makes it good enough to see some play.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Assuming savage combatant works off of a webspinner, that would be a pretty nasty pull in some cases. 2 attack hero power and an attack to split on the board, which would also stack on eaglehorn. God damn.

Yeah, it should be able to I think, it's a normal playable Beast card... if you can get those 9/7 druid beasts that reshuffle from it...

And don't forget about the unstable portal buff too... Mage gets to direct 3 damage for 2 mana, which is not bad either.

These cards are seriously making me hesitate on this expansion.

Initially I was thinking (well for a few seconds anyway), maybe I'd pre-order the expansion when they announced the pre-order deal, but these cards they're revealing... I'm not feeling them at all. I see no reason for me to spend any money on such lackluster cards. The Inspire idea is neat, but it seems like they didn't commit themselves to it in a way it'd be relevant in an aggro meta such as ranked play.

Well it's a rare occurrance and it doesn't buff hunters hero power directly of course.

We haven't seen shit yet though. And we already have an incredibly potent inspire buff with Trueheart. I can see the meta slowing down if the inspire cards offer good enough sustain/value so that you can safely play 2 healbots, 2 belcher and other anti-aggro cards while still being able to outlast control decks. Like aggro decks aren't the whole problem, you can easily tech your deck to win 90% of the aggro matchups but then you lose to other control decks because you don't have enough value in your cards. Inspire might change that completely since the mechanic generates free value indefinitely.

I'm still hyped as fuck! Trueheart might be the first thing I craft.

I like the new cards.
The inspire effect of the druid card is pretty good, because you can kill a lot of minions with you hero power alone.

I like Clockwork Knight, because don't really have any good 5 drops, which is bad if you want to play a slower mech deck.

At the end of the day GvG was more than alright, it'd be a huge bummer if they fucked up the second expansion. It's still too early for doom and gloom, does anyone have a list of GvG cards by release order though? I'm wondering if there had been any bombs in the first 30-ish GvG cards or if it was a similar situation to now.

Quick google result. Like looking at that list, most cards looked like trash and some were only identified as good post release. People forget how many filler cards there were.
