Destiny receives a new Leveling System with The Taken King release. Step aside RNG.

Probably from Level 20 to 40. I am guessing your Light level will be gone and you are forced to level up from Level 20.

Yeah about that, a lot of old strikes, Raids are not available if they let us start from 20...dont you guys think they will just boost us to 34?

Great change. And about time. Not coming back yet tho. Still pissed about the game content.

Yeah but they are already redoing a lot of the strikes and such so I don't see why they wouldn't be able to just downgrade them

There's a little give and take there. It used to be that all but the very last level was unlocked by participating in end game activity a few times. I would look at people at the level cap as a sign that they were at least decent players and community engaged. Now there's no real meaning to it, but it is a hell of a lot more friendly to the masses.

Now what I wonder is if the same can be said about unlocking top level gear - just because you can hit the level cap easily, does that mean that you can get the top level of gear without
sacrificing a goat
paying your repeated penances to the RNGeeeeee?

Some of the old strikes are being revised so that they feel refreshing. I am guessing they are going to start from there and let people level up from 20.

There are four new strikes: Fallen Saber (on Earth; you’ll fight against a super-powered Shank); Shield Brothers (on the Dreadnaught; you’ll take out two Cabal leaders);

Sunless Cell (hunt down a Hive Darkblade who rebelled against Oryx); and Echo Chamber (this is the PlayStation-exclusive one; it’s yet another Vex mind).

Three old strikes are also getting remixed: Dust Palace, Undying Mind, and Cerberus Vae.

These new strikes have “raid-light” mechanics, Bungie says; in other words, you won’t just be killing waves of enemies, thank god.

And since the developers are well aware of how repetitive strikes are, they’re triggering these new and revised strikes to change up enemies and even narrations on replays, which could be either really great or really irritating. No in-between.

I do wonder what a remixed strike would be like, will it be different every time you play it or?

Wait, wait...

The Light system limited grinding?

The system that compelled you to play daily, doing minor variations of the same strikes and bounties for weeks on end to get better gear and get your level up... "limited grinding"?

Big spoiler for you:
with levelling not tied to grinding you'll probably be able to go from level 1 to 40 in a couple of weeks. That is so much less grinding it's not even funny. It took me a couple of weeks to go from 20 to 23, and never again

That's because you were probably shooting at a loot cave. It takes a week to get to max level at most currently. For alts it takes about 8 hours.

Game has a tidal wave of content now with TTK. I can't imagine a better time to jump in.

Before destiny was in my hands I was hoping that strikes would be randomized in some way like using a different start point, enemy layout changes, never happened though :/

"Fallen Saber (on Earth; you’ll fight against a super-powered Shank); Shield Brothers (on the Dreadnaught; you’ll take out two Cabal leaders);"

Haha, atleast Bungie continues the trend of just scaling up a normal enemy as a boss :D we get a supersized Shank! And apparently supersized Phalanx as well.

For anyone thinking of hopping back into Destiny on Xbox One...Shoot me a message or request permission to join on bungie.net. Looking to get the band back together.

https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/174077

Progenitor is a Destiny clan that formed before the game's release. We raided the Vault of Glass heavily as a group and some of us have continued on to run Crota's End, Prison of Elders and Trials of Osirus together. Many of our members consider each other friends whether in real-life, or through the game.

As The Taken King approaches, we are looking to bolster our numbers once more so we regularly have a good sized player pool. As with any game that maintains a player base, sometimes people come and go, but we want Progenitor to remain and continue on, especially with exciting new content on the way. All we ask is that you be competent at the game and have a desire to get things done. Members are encouraged to use the Destiny app to communicate with fellow clan members to coordinate runs.

In the weeks leading up to The Taken King, many of us will be doing Nightfall, raids, Trials, Prison, etc. But what we're really looking for are members who are going to dedicate themselves to running new content in The Taken King when it hits in September. If you're looking for an Xbox One clan to play with once The Taken King hits, look no further. Request permission to join Progenitor and you're in. We look forward to exploring the Dreadnaught with you.

As someone who typically prefers soloing most games due to the vast quantity of randoms who just aren't fun to play with, joining a clan sounds like a great idea. I'll be jumping back in to Destiny when the Legendary Edition TTK drops. I didn't like the original release after hitting lvl 20 bc it turned into such a ridiculous, random grind & the content was so thin (its actually one of the few games I've ever asked for a refund on). But it sounds like patch 2.0 + all the DLC might actually fix those problems. If so I'll be into Destiny in a big way bc the core gunplay is sublime. Soooo...in the meantime, should I PM you to add each other on XBL?

Does anyone know if the exclusive PS4 content in TTK is timed? I'd much rather pick up the Legendary Edition for Xbone. If it takes a few months to show up on Xbone I'm cool with that. I don't mind waiting. But I'm not a fan of permanently missing content (I hate all these exclusivity deals. Ugh) So I might consider picking it up on PS4 instead.

I believe it's exclusive for a year. That's the same deal as the current exclusive stuff (so the current exclusive content will be available to xboners when TTK launches

Yeah it's only a year.

Join us at Team Bone Zone. We've got me, and anyone who's played with me can tell you, my unbridled enthusiasm and world-class sense of humor is the Xbox One's real killer app.

I think that estimation is a bit liberal. My first character took about 2 weeks of daily grinding to get to max level, much more than it should have. I got burned out and it took me about a month of a break to renew my interest enough to try the raids.

If you have both I'd recommend playing on whichever system most of your friends play on. If you don't really have many friends playing Destiny I'd recommend the PS4 version, there are way more players on PS4 than xbox one on GAF and reddit and its far faster to join a quick pickup group for a raid or strike. The xbone (or ps3/360) versions aren't ghost towns by any means and you can still find people on sites like destinyLFG but there are just way more people on the PS4 than the other 3 platforms, combined.

You still need PS+ (or xbox gold) for multiplayer so something else to consider.

A person playing through the game for the very first time (right now) will take about 10-12 hours to reach level 20 at which point you no longer gain XP and have to rely on gear for additional levels.

A person playing through the game for a second time with a bit of guidance and an optimized plan can hit level 20 in 6-8 hours depending on the types of bounties offered.

XP numbers here:

  • 1 (0xp)
  • 2 (900xp)
  • 3 (5,000xp)
  • 4 (10,000xp)
  • 5 (16,000xp)
  • 6 (23,000xp)
  • 7 (31,000xp)
  • 8 (40,000xp)
  • 9 (50,000xp)
  • 10 (62,500xp)
  • 11 (75,500 xp)
  • 12 (89,500xp)
  • 13 (104,500xp)
  • 14 (119,500xp)
  • 15 (134,500xp)
  • 16 (149,500xp)
  • 17 (164,500xp)
  • 18 (182,500xp)
  • 19 (203,500xp)
  • 20 (227,500xp)

Not that is cumulative. So to get from 19 to 20 you need 24,000XP.

Edit: the difference between XP needed for level 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 are all the same at 15K for some reason. Several bounties in the game offer 5K xp for completion. Since you can hold 10 bounties, you could technically go from level 12 to 15 with one round of completed bounties.

God's had his chance.
Would have loved to play Destiny with these changes. Too bad I'm completely burnt out on the old tired ass version. Will really enjoy hopping in with my lifer friends and checking out the new gear every coupl of months though. Everyone from my raid group is pumped af for TTK.

...I might play Destiny again.

If they had this system at launch, me and my friends may have actually gotten to try the raid out rather than get burned out trying to get to level 28. I got to 26. The next time I play anything Destiny will probably be when the 2nd expansion for Destiny 2 comes out that includes everything for $60, unless they launch with proper compelling content and systems and the reviews/impressions indicate that. I loved the gunplay and abilities.

So all my progress and current legendaries are worthless?

Nope.

Your progess is just fine. Nothing is happening to your existing characters XP and/or sublcasses.

Your current legendary weapons are still useful in PvP where damage is noramlized (except in Iron Banner and Trials).

Damn, from level 34 straight to 40 huh?

20 to 40.

If you're level 21-34 in Destiny right now, go take a look at your character's gear screen, either in game or through bungie.net.

See that huge number at the top left next to your subclass? Yeah. You're actually just level 20; it's your gear that's making you stronger beyond that. TTK is doing away with the Light system, so everyone's going to go "back" to 20 when it launches. At least that's my understanding of it.

I'm guessing the XP curve to go to 40 is going to be a lot steeper, now that leveling up is just a matter of raw experience and not gated behind your capacity to find and upgrade max-light gear.

that is so scary and exciting but I think you're right.

Looks nice, I'll wait to see the actual implementation.

And for it not to cost £40 for an expansion. They've already had £50 out of me for base game and the poor as hell expansions, and I got both with money off the full price.

Fool me once Bungie, fool me once.

"Expansion" seems like a gross misnomer after the Game Informer data drop.

It's more like a Sequel-lite or something.

Sequel doesn't seem quite right but neither does expansion, but it's definitely closer to the former than the latter.

Expansion seems perfect. Definitely doesn't look like Destiny 2, but much better than TDB or HoW.

Meh, it's still not enough to bring me back. It just seems like it's becoming more like a run-of-the-mill mmo.

Same. I like the core gameplay, but I just don't have time/interest for long, grindy games anymore.

How so? It sounds a reasonable amount of content on paper, at least. Far more than the two pitiful DLCs.

Or do you mean the (essentially) rewrite of the basic game? That's for everyone regardless of paying for TTK right?
I'm actually pretty pleased with that and really really hope Bungie get it right this time. If they can fix the base game and make it more like the original dream, I'll be more inclined to get the expansion too.

I think I'm just going to start all over again with all the new systems in place....there will always be time to get shit end game....besides dinklebot being re-voiced makes me curious to start over as well.

Destiny: A Realm Reborn

It comes across as a reboot, but there's no need to drop £40 on the expansion if you just want the rewrite if that comes free anyway.

As for Anoregon's quote, and why I quoted it--- I really fucking hope so. Dunno what XIV 1.0 was like, wasn't into it at the time, but I love A Realm Reborn and Heavensward. If Destiny makes a turnaround like that I'll be ecstatic.

Relic weapon quests when?

I guess. But I don't personally know why someone would only want to play old content that they hated but in a different way without playing the new material designed from the ground up to work with the new game style and approach.

The bad things about the light system was no visual or perk flexibility (always choose armor with the the highest level) and limited avenues for getting the necessary light upgrade items

However, the "good" thing is it did encourage you to play repetitive content. So they basically need to find a better reason for players to do this. Hopefully its due to acquiring more build options for different playstyles needed to beat high level content. Unfortunately, all they really said is that it would have a more straight forward level system. So can't tell whats really good about that in general

I still think they should have gone with the early "episode" nomenclature, and expansion for TTK.

I think so, but on the other hand, It's alot easier to convince someone to spend $20 on an "expansion" than an episode, since that's what people usually expect expansions to be $15-$25 bucks.

If this is retroactive, I'm not going to bother playing ANY of the newest expansion (which I paid for and have yet to play because of this horrible horrible feeling of "DO NOT WANT
" in the pit of my stomach). I'll just get TKK.

I still think they should have gone with the early "episode" nomenclature, and expansion for TTK.

It was one of the most asinine decisions involved in the game.

Massive insult to injury with the anemic content of the base game and both DLC, considering they're both more expensive than Shivering Isles was a decade ago.

But the positive is that each release has gotten progressively better, where HoW was almost worth the price of admission, had interesting characters and storyline, good upgrade system, fantastic encounter design (still think of the Ember Caves area in the first mission), and TTK seems like it's going above and beyond the original vision to make up for the missteps leading to here.

They're doing this, it looks like, by expanding bounties and quests like a million fold. It's all about XP now, so you'll be revisiting old content in different ways to get it through bounties and quests.

To see whether the new system meets my standards. No sense dropping cash on new content if I don't find the old content redone good enough.

It's been six months at this point. The base game should be fairly fresh to do again. I'll just undergear my Titan for it.
