Hidetaka Miyazaki (FROM/Dark Souls) planning to launch "several new projects."

Just imagine if FROM teamed up with Universal Pictures to bring us the Schindler's List / Dark Souls mashup we've always dreamed of.

all over my face

Get to work already!!

This is an interesting idea. I kind of would prefer something completely new like this rather than just making a Space/Ninja Souls game.

Yeah, I'd love them to throw something out of left field at us. Of course based on their past track record I doubt that'll happen. They'll only switch away from the Souls formula when they run it into the ground.

No, bad Stark!

How the hell did you come up with that mash-up?

The first three posts of this page lol.

Bring em. I take my time with this series and I still want more despite only finishing the original Dark Souls.

Currently at level 101 in DS2... And only about halfway through.

DeS was put on hold after tackling a few zones so I could finish DS before DS2 came out and I still have Bloodborne! But feed me more souls!

I feel like five games in six and a half years is pretty much running it into the ground. Based on their past they've worked on very different types of games than the Souls games. I'd love for them to give Souls like games a rest for a good five years or so at least. Branch out a little bit.

I see a lot of people wanting mech souls, space souls, etc. I'll take Loli Souls

Senran Souls pretty please From. Explore Asakusa and destroy hidden youma, collect pieces of equipements, unlock new characters, accomplish side-quests... :3

I don't care what he does, it's going to be good and I'm going to buy it.

also I'm sure it was expected that we weren't going to get a Dark Souls 4.

The problem with having a Berserk game is that if we would be playing as Guts or somebody else from that universe. If we play as Guts, people will no doubt moan about the lack of customisation on offer, since Guts pretty much has his own set defined combat style. Guts isn't a mage, for instance. From Software normally like to let players pick and choose their play style, whether it be in the Souls games or Armored Core series, so...maybe that's why they haven't done it. Yet.

Why does everyone think Guts is slow? Am I reading a different manga here? The dude is super quick when it comes to combat.

The big sword, I guess. But yeah, he's taken on many fast opponents such as Silat and the Kushan, who are essentially, the closest things to ninjas in the series. Super quick assassins.

Dragon's Dogma had generic creature design but it seemed intentional to me. Creatures like the Griffin or the Dragon itself look like the classic design if the creatures.

Armorborne. Combat as fast as Bloodborne but in mechs, hold dash for a boost to fly around in short bursts. Mech weapons like chainguns, rocket launchers and lasers as well as melee weapons.

The question is will Miyazaki's next game be multi platform or a PS4 exclusive?

Also I bet Sony and Namco are kicking themselves for not buying FromSoftware when hey had a chance.

I think this, "take said theme/setting and apply Souls formula to it", is extremely short sighted and completely missing the point. If I were From, I would do the following as an armchair CEO:

-Make exclusives for the three main consoles
--King's Field V for PS4, co-developed with Japan Studio
--Otogi 3 for Xbox One, co-developed with Microsoft Games Studio
--Lost Kingdoms 3 for Wii U/NX, co-developed with Nintendo producers, etc.
--Tenchu, cross platform, with similar online integration as the Souls titles (they still own this, right?)

Done. Portfolio instantly more interesting and diverse than what they've been doing for the past few years.

Problem is, most of From's other franchises sold like poo and got middling review scores. Remember the last time they tried something non-Souls? It was that Steel Battalion Kinect game.

Furthermore, if they made a new Otogi or Lost Kingdoms, they would absolutely have Souls-style combat. Otogi was already a hack and slash without the Souls depth, and the Lost Kingdoms cards were functionally similar to spells in Souls, albeit with far greater variety. King's Field would be different as far as gameplay is concerned, but the aesthetic would still be just like Souls.

The only decent franchises From owns that are totally divorced from Souls are Tenchu, which would have to go up against AAA assassin franchises like Dishonored, Splinter Cell and Hitman, Armored Core and The Adventures of Cookie & Creme.

The only thing that has really worked for From is tight combat with creepy monsters, so it makes sense that people are suggesting they stick to that. Even Miyazaki seems to be suggesting spiritual sequels rather than something totally new.

I would appreciate any new setting for the Souls games - I feel as though the medieval stone, dull gray aesthetic is a little worn at this point.

Even though I would love that I'd rather have Miyazaki work on an original IP and story/world that he's created himself.

We already kinda got a Berserk game with Demon's Souls and Dark Souls also.

It could be something like Bloodborne, Miyazaki's interpretation of
Faust + Gothic + Cosmic horror & R/K selection
. I'd love to see Miyazaki work on a completely new universe of his own creation but if he does something like his interpretation of Berserk + a few other universes, I'll be down for it.

Berserk is ONLY one of many influences in Demons/Dark Souls; there are also important bits of sword & sorcery, Fighting Fantasy gamebooks and tabletop RPG like D&D in it.

Take the mindflayers, for example :

Dark Souls is the Old School Renaissance of videogaming.

Meh.

Souls games are special, I love the gameplay and the medieval fantasy stuff. Souls were a dream series that I wanted before I'd ever heard of them, I highly doubt anything else will touch it. I hate mech games so if that is part of this it'll suck.

I'd say that games like Dragon Age or Fable or hell, even Diablo 3 has generic enemy design

It is hilarious to me how often people entirely miss the point of Dragons Dogma's aesthetic of being entirely traditional fantasy, and call it "generic"

There already was some hefty arguing because some direct connections to the lore of DS2. People will argue even without reasons.

Yeah because DS2 was a sequel, but the point is it wasn't Miyazaki's sequel, it sounds like DSIII will be what DSII should have been.
You have to look at this like if MGS2 had been made by someone other than Kojima and was still a good game but not a great MGS game, only for him to return and give us MGS3.

Besides the guy directing DS2 initially said that Drangleic was the south pole to Lordran's north pole, basically putting them on opposite sides of the world, even though the game basically VERY HEAVYHANDEDLY implies all the kingdoms were built on what was once Lordran, which caused problems, they couldn't make their goddamn mind up with the lore.

I'd say that games like Dragon Age or Fable or hell, even Diablo 3 has generic enemy design
All of those games is why a goddamn series about a guy in basic shitty armor trudging through a regular old castle becomes the most exciting thing ever.

Ah Berserk, its like Dark Souls but with rape!..... yaaaaaaaaaay

EDIT: Also New game wiuse would like a bright colorful game with Souls trappings

WAT?

Berserk is rich in characters and it's world with deep, layered, complex themes of fate, destiny, symbolism, foreshadowing, emotions etc and that's all you came away with? Rape? Someone wasn't paying attention. That or you haven't read the manga.
