Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition on August 24, $20 (25% off sale at launch)

Debatable.

The voice acting is pretty bad, but other than that, Grandia 1's translation is better than most games of its era (and WAY better than your average 16-bit RPG). It would have been even better if Working Designs had gotten the rights to it like they wanted, but the Sony translation is competent.

fix for controller problems

go control panel, devices and printers, find 360 controller for winfows, right click and game controller setings, click advanced and it should come up with a box saying select device you want to use for older programs and click 360 controllers for windows. load up the game and 360 controller works
Looks like that did the trick, thanks! Unfortunately I wont be able to start playing until after I get off work tonight.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
Man, I wish Steam games worked with DS4. For some reason they don't.

Japanese voices are pretty great so far. Love Skye the most (not that the English VA was bad, especially for the time)

Watching the GoG trailer I gotta say this is a pretty big upgrade from the OG PC port. The FMV's while upscaled, still look tons better. The old port had terribly compressed FMVs full of macroblocking despite being on two discs. Dat GoG trailer got me pretty damn excited to buy this eventually :)

Does that make the Triggers work in older games? :

I have fond memories of playing this on Dreamcast. The soundtrack is wonderful. My backlog is way too big, but I may pick this up again at some point.

Are people still having controller issues? DS4 works fine for me.

Don't know if it's just because I've been playing so much Grandia 1 recently, but this actually looked really nice in the quick look I had.

Can configure gamepad in setting using DS4 but it doesn't register in-game for some reason.

So I'm fighting what I assume is supposed to be an unwinnable battle, but dying causes a game over and nothing which causes the game to progress ever happens, so all I can do is slowly use up all my healing items.

Apparently this is a bug caused by talking to the tutorial guy, which was already in the original release? Was this seriously not fixed?

The guy who teaches you about combo and critical? You follow his instructions and the battle ends. But it might be buggy, I just followed his instructions the first time around and it worked.

Good to hear there's room for modding new UI/texture assets in to augment this port later on. But I'm annoyed and confused re: FPS given the old PC version got double the regular framerate going during battles. Frames per second being tied with game logic is likely in Grandia II's case, but there's been no word from the devs on that (I'm assuming SkyBox pulled most of the weight here). Otherwise the biggest problems for me are mediocre performance and lack of widescreen rendering, something you can already configure and get running with a Dreamcast copy of the game via emulator.

Still going to get this, but it's a disappointing start for GungHo PC ports.

No, I mean
Millenia
, but apparently talking to the tutorial guy at any point in the game messes up the AI for every single enemy, making that battle unendable if you ever talked to him.

talking does it or talking and using their tutorial?

I've done the former but not the latter, do I need to restart the game?

Spooky is playing the game right now twitch.tv/teamsp00ky and sometimes the floor textures glitch up and use a different texture, it comes and goes.

Some of the dynamic lighting doesn't cast on polygons correctly either :/ what is this.

Whew! I apologize for the inconvenience everyone. Feel free to PM any issues you may run across (hopefully none!) and I will be sure our dev team is aware so we can find solutions.

Git.

(I mean it's a bug in the original so it might be outside the scope/ability of a porting team to fix, but still worth a shot)

I know this is heresy among many people, but I consider Lunar: Eternal Blue on the Sega CD to be the best 16-bit RPG. I really hope that a version of the game is next on the Gungho PC porting initiative. :)
I'm going to join you in continuing to subliminally promote MCD Lunar~Eternal Blue in a Grandia II thread, which I still feel just fine doing, given that Shigema Kei basically just stenciled his Eternal Blue backstory on top of different characters for Grandia II.

Grandia II sure is fun to play, though, even if it lacks MCD Eternal Blue's sublimely designed dungeons. Sorry, Valmar, you're no Zophar, at least as far as interior decoration is concerned.

Bought! Classic games need more love, no matter which platform.

It is the DC version.

Maybe a little off topic here. But can you share a little bit of story time about this PC port at some point?

Always interesting to hear things from publisher/dev side.

If you are getting crashes from battle fmvs in the original PC version you can fix it by re-encoding the fmv files in the btl directory.

I have no idea why I felt the need to share that in this thread.

Beat on a dreamcast, bought it again for the PS2 and even though it was such a god awful port I played it and beat it again there too.

Game is fantastic.

Suuuuuuuucks. I thought this port was supposedly based on the DC version, not the old PC version. :/
I was just able to get past it by switching to my weakest weapon, for some reason that made her not use Stram and use Burn and Zap! (The one she needs to use) instead. Very weird.

I'm not sure you want to continue playing that save file if the insinuation that more enemy AI could be messed up is correct. (It could be, It might not be. Who knows)

Perhaps save somewhere like the last slot then restart to be safe?

The steam trailer shows the game being widescreen while the screenshots don't. It has to be widescreen right. The controller problem is also worrying me.

This is why publishers sometimes don't put preorders up until the game launches. Paradox does this all the time to maximize exposure on the Steam charts.
Yeah, but they could have gotten the Steam/GOG pages up earlier to remind people it's coming. At least this release is doing well out of the gate.

Caspel, how much involvement does SkyBox have with Grandia II 25th Anniversary Edition? And since you mentioned it's based on the DC release, is the game running in an emulator or ported from source code (or another method)?

GoG version works, but there are 2 reported bugs. One which you can't really avoid and the other to do with the tutorials which you can. Don't do the tutorials, apparently.

Screenshots please?

One screenshot I took at 3200x1800:

I'm tempted to wait a week or two to see if people will work on fixes/mods, as I'm not one to replay RPGs (except Chrono Trigger).
Still, it seems fairly playable so there's no need to get your refund.
