Battletech |KS| Turn-based tactical mech combat, Harebrained Schemes, Summer 2017

The rapidly-approaching Expanded Environments goal sounds really cool
We'll add a wider variety of battlefield environments to the game, including time-of-day and atmospheric conditions that affect both movement and combat. Confront enemy forces in the low-visibility conditions of a blizzard on a frigid ice world, or carefully manage your heat in a battle across volcanic fields

Stop. Most wiki for franchises this old and big are a hole that when you climb out of you'll notice several hours have passed. I lost an entire day one weekend due to reading Memory Alpha, the Star Trek wiki. Not touching Sarna until the weekend.

Oh god. Just one day?

In for $50. MechWarrior 2 was my first PC game as a kid. Super interested in a more strategic version of the universe.

$3,5 millions - Clans
plz lolz

No.

Wrong time frame, wrong year.

If this sees a sequel, it'll be considered. But it's not happening for this one. They have said they will consider a second game in a different era if needed.

Classic Succession Wars doesn't need this, nor is it happening in here.

Good write up on US Gamer:

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/battletech-kickstarter-7-things-you-should-about-the-game

7 Things You Should Know About the Game

  1. The Rights Held Back BattleTech
  2. A "Spiritual Successor" Was Never a Possibility
  3. Mechs and MechWarriors Will be Deep and Complex
  4. Perma-Death Stalks Your MechWarriors
  5. The Lore is King, If The Kickstarter Hits $1 Million
  6. Unlike Shadowrun, Mods Aren't In the Cards
  7. Harebrained Is Keeping the Game's Scope Manageable

A little sad about no mods, but the implication of them coming in the next game is delicious.

We're excited that Piranha Games, creators of MechWarrior Online, are sharing their incredible roster of Inner Sphere BattleMech models with us for BATTLETECH. Not only are their 'Mechs wonderfully detailed, using the same models adds to the continuity of the BattleTech Universe.

Now im reaaaallly sold

No.

I'm lazy.

I don't want to have to remember later to cancel my pledge if the product becomes something I don't want (skirmish-only).

The momentum always picks back up towards the end of a Kickstarter.

I don't preorder games sight unseen and I don't early bird KickStarters on a promise made $750,000~$1.6M away.

Totally understandable, this is my first kickstarted game and its based on not only my love for Battletech but also HBS Shadowrunner games, how they have handled their KS campaigns and game updates have encouraged me to take a leap of faith.

Hopefully it will hit $1 million soon so you (and others) can jump in and help us get to stage 3 which is the real goal in my mind.

I hope if they reach the single-player campaign it has a personal edge to it. One of the reasons I vastly preferred Dragonfall and Hong Kong to Shadowfall Returns is that your crew is vastly more interesting in those games than it is with Returns' one dimensional cast and the faceless runners it encourages you to hire. I feel like the latter comes with the territory when running a mercenary crew, so I just hope they give you some actual well-written party members to interact with as well.

The procedurally-generated, open-ended expanded campaign sounds like the coolest shit ever, though, so I hope that one gets funded for sure.

Wow. Amazing. Very cool by PGI, although they probably get compensated for it.

I really hope Unity does the assets justice then. I wished they would have gone with UE4 from a fidelity standpoint, but HBS' experience with Unity makes the design process and implementation easier

I think I am going to drop $25 to get a copy of the game. Pretty sure it will be more expensive when it comes out in the distant future so it is more of an investment. Here's hoping it will be a decent game :)

This is a really odd campaign. Only 3 tiers below $125, most expensive being $50. Then only 1 at $275 and the next is $1000.

I really hope the KS hits at least 1 mil so we get a campaign. That would immensely enhance the overall experience and could be a big hit! And show to the world that making MechWarrior 5 is profitable :)

...or even Mech Commander 3! :O

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you don't have a lot to worry about there.

Uhh, wow, that's a lot of books.
All of the books after Warrior: Riposte cover events well beyond the scope of this game, so you don't have to read them any time soon. Going by the interviews, this game is supposed to stop short of the Fourth Succession War, and all the other books take place decades later. The Warrior trilogy would be the best novels to read as a starting point; all of the major players and factions are featured, and it portrays some of the most important events of the entire franchise.

Sarna.net has a lot of articles, but the vast majority of them aren't too detailed so it's not that bad. It'd be a very different story if you decided to delve into the source books though.

Backed 25$!. Stayed low, it will depend how much i'm going to spend during Oktoberfest. Second Kickstarter for me after Shenmue III.

I nearly got disappointed when they didn't call it the 4th Succession War era but then I wiki it and it totally is the 4th Succession War. That is seriously one of the best points of Battletech. The lore and stories from the novels were great.

I hope this turns out better than that crappy Mechwarrior Tactics.

I love Battletech I really want a good game that emulates the table top. I am in for 50

Thanks for the kind words. Does anyone at HBS check GAF? I could write something up for Battletech, but I'm not sure where to post it.

We could e-mail it to them, post it in the comments at the Kickstarter, and/or tweet them.

In for $25

I understand why they picked this time frame but I'd love a Clan Wars expansion at some point. Also add me to the list of people really hoping they hit $1.85 million.

Are there any good Battletech audiobooks? Looking for my next commute book after I finish Tarkin.

Pretty sure there are none.

EDIT For the record, Battletech novel line ended in 2001 or so, and is only restarting this year/next year. (There were Mechwarrior: Dark Age novels but they were after a time-skip, and that series was left kind of unfinished.)

Based on the USGamer article it's clear that Infinity Game Publishing (fuck them and their scheming with MW:T) were the reason the rights were held up. It wasn't until they went bankrupt and the license got passed over to PGI that Harebrained Schemes got the opportunity to do this thing.

I just really hope it'll be really good (duh!) with great fidelity. The art style deserves it.

Great stuff.
I played Mechcommander as a kid and a couple years ago, no other Battletech game though.
Turn-based tactics are always welcome, add a couple giant mechs and it just gets better.

Just quickly checked Audible and they have several of the old books available, don't know which would be worth my time.
