Given that sketch programs all utilize digital pen styles, I am assuming the accessory pen tips are just for trying to get the physical feel of a specific pen that the artist might prefer?

Yes. Resistance and thickness are different. They come labeled as graphite pencils do.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

I really want to buy a Surface Pro, will wait for the release to decide between the SP4 or the cheaper SP3. It'd be ideal if the cooling/throttling problems were gone.

They haven't said a word regarding the throttling so I'll be waiting for a couple of reviews to see if it's been addressed.

Has the tablet app ecosystem improved since the SP3? The hardware is really nice but using it as a tablet was a poor experience

How do you even go to start menu without that button if you have no keyboard attached ?

Yeah, I actually used that quite a lot in tablet mode. The tiny Windows icon in the corner can be hard to hit, and there is no Charms shortcut to Start anymore, of course.

touch the Windows symbol on the start bar with finger or pen. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question.

as per above, I don't believe I've ever had a mishit touching the Windows symbol.

Dock is SUPER expensive considering it's just a little box to plug wires into. $200?

Also, the new Pen doesn't appear to be sold separately (at least for now). So even though the new Pen is said to work with older Surfaces, it won't matter until they put it out for sale.

Quite glad I grabbed the 3 at discount. This is just an upgrade for more money. Which is fine. But at some point shit gets expensive.

I'm really excited for this as an artist. I was looking at iPad Pro since Cintiq Companions are overpriced IMO, but I might go for Surface Pro 4 instead.

I wonder if you get all the benefits of the new pen on the SP3 since they talked so much about the new processor controlling the interaction between the en and the screen?

Looks like a nice step up, with pretty much everything moving in the right direction. I'm very happy with my SP3, so I'll probably skip the 4. Still, good to know what will be waiting when I finally switch to the SP5.

Well just some polishing nothing so ground breaking as sp2 to sp3. But it's a nice product I'm very happy with my sp3 but the sp4 isn't enough to make me jump generation

Since I am not an artist I'll probably go with the SP3 unless there is a serious battery lfe upgrade with the SP4, what is everyone expecting the SP3 i5/8gb/256ssd to be priced with this one coming out?

Despite the fairly hefty price tag, MS are making this one of the easiest purchases I've ever made. I love that they've embraced the Surface line as an artist's tool.

I went with the Vaio Z Canvas and now have zero regret. SP4 looks good for its price range as well. But the Canvas deserves more recognition than (I think) it's getting, it's not just CC2 vs SP4.

I'm JUST getting by with 8GB RAM on my MB Air currently. The main issue is that I always have a virtual machine running. It'd be nice to have the ability to run 2 of them concurrently but it's not necessary.

Main point, if I'm JUST getting by with 8GB with OSX and my VM's, does Windows 10 do better or worse with memory? Or is this not something to worry about, hopefully?

Is the new keyboard compatible with Surface Pro 3?

Not having a 128GB / 8 GB Ram is terrible, I don't want to put any serious money on anything that doesn't have 8GB of RAM.

So if you're not an artist... Is there any compelling reason to go with the S4 over the S3?

Even if you're not there is no reason. Just go Pro 3 and add new pen and keyboard.

I think we should wait for benchmarks until we can say this. Also, if the SP4 doesn't have the throttling issue, that might be enough for some people.

How is cooling on the new SP4? Active vents like the SP3 or passive like the S3?

This, too. They call it a "hybrid cooling" system, but I haven't seen any other details.

...lacks reading comprehension.
Can you magnetically attach it to the Pro 3 or is that Pro 4 and Surface Book only?

You can attach the old pen to the right side of the Pro 3 magnetically. TBH I don't think that's even a feature of the Pro 4, it attaches the same way. And that is way too insecure for transport.

Wait I thought the whole point was you couldn't with the pen that came with the Pro 3, but you can with this new pen?

wut

Magnetic attachment for the pen is brand new. SP3 came a pen loop that you basically stuck to your Type Cover.

Is there any reason to get a tablet like this over the laptop equivalent?

I kind of want one. I dont go to school anymore so I just watch movies, surf the web, play Hearthstone...

The keyboard is a must, but is it a replacement for the laptop?

The ipad's lack of Mac OS bothers me, as I'd like something traditional, which windows tablets have.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't heard of that one before. I'll check it out.

EDIT: It's unfortunately a bit too expensive for me, I'm looking something around 1000€ that I can use casually on the go. I'll be doing my primary work on Intuos and big screen.

Just got a Surface Pro 3 in March so I'll upgrade to the 4 next Spring. Definitely want to get the new pen though, since it works with SP3

Ok question. If all I want from a surface is Internet access, Microsoft silverlight compatibility, no slowness in operations, to be able to play nba 2k and fifa smoothly, and to be able to last 2-4 years between an upgrade needed... which surface is best? Sorry but too many products out there and I am not technically sound enough? Any help will be appreciated.

Surface Book with the dGPU

You could do with the regular Surface 3 for that.
