Frog Factions 2 ARG - Hop on in, the water's murky

I saw someone on another forum mention that the hashes in the HTML comments were changing based on IP address. So, I figured that the hash was the IP address plus some other string concatenated. I wrote some brute forcing code using the hashes I was getting and my IP address and I actually found some matches.

For me at least, each page's hash is being calculated as the MD5 of my IP address concatenated with a single character.

Here are the matches I found for each page:

Index: MD5(IP + 1)
Hours: MD5(IP + 2)
About: MD5(IP + b)
Menu: MD5(IP + z)
Beer: MD5(IP + a)
Privacy: MD5(IP + y)
Admin: MD5(IP + x)

Can somebody else confirm that the hashes you're seeing match this pattern?

So all the extra letters are:
12bzayx

Maybe these can be unscrambled for the username and/or password?
I only checked the first three, but they match exactly so that seems correct.

12abxyz maybe? *edit* No combinations of these letters in groups of in-order stuff (12, ab, xyz) seem to work.

*edit2* Crazy idea, those letters remind me of game controller letters. If there were some sort of game that's related, maybe pressing them on a keyboard or controller does something? Is there even a controller that has '1' and '2' in addition to ABXYZ?

Unfiction is thinking the pages we're getting hashes from are supposed to spell out AMPHIBIAN (probably so we know how way to arrange them to create a string)

A (About Us) - x or b
M (Menu) - z
P (Privacy) - y
H (Hours) - 2
I (Index) - ? or 1
B (Beer) - a
I - ? or 1
A - x or b
N - ???

Edit: Someone over there pointed out there is likely another page that starts with I since there were multiple A pages.

I'm going to get a list of unsolved bits and pieces together sometime soon after doing some research considering the scope of this ARG is rather large.

Anyone know if the FF1 game has had any updates since the start of the arg? I don't know how to check.
A post on unfiction mentions the only thing being added was a keypad into the kitchen

FWIW, the "bread machine" thing has been a part of Frog Fractions 1 for some time, as has the shaving simulator game it leads to...

The original version of the game didn't have it, but when it was updated to add the "Game of the Year" logo at the front (about a year ago), it had a number of minor tweaks, including a new room in the text adventure with the bread machine in it. I never figured out how you were supposed to divine the correct recipe, so I decompiled the SWF to find it. There were no Google results for it at the time, so I just guessed it was just some Easter egg.
[edit] This secret keypad you have to type on to get access to the kitchen is new, though, that wasn't there before, you could just go aft from the engine room to the kitchen. And as far as I can tell, that keypad is the only difference between the Frog Fractions SWF of right now compared to the one from March 2013.

I'm so glad I still have Chapter Select open to just skip to the Text Adventure/any other parts that may be updated. This is like when Portal 1 was updated to promote Portal 2, and I love it!

Also, for people on the "admin" page? You can still put in "admin" for a username and password that does something.
Instead of "Bad Login," you just get "Admin?" and nothing else changes.

Frog Fractions 2 will take place on a future Bug Mars plagued by rampant poverty and crime after fallout from hyperinflation of its currency.

It has a different name and doesn't resemble the original at all...

How is that a sequel?

the whole hook of frog fractions is it starts off as an unassuming math game and then unexpectedly leads into into several surreal unconnected adventures. In order to replicate that feeling you kind of need a game that has no relation to the original

It's kind of just how the creator works. Reading the KS page might give you a better understanding of "Frog Fractions 2".

Most Kickstarters are very detailed about what you're paying for, but the nature of this one is that you're paying for a surprise. I created Frog Fractions explicitly to evoke the air of mystery that all video games held in the 1980s, before the era of endless preview coverage and official strategy guides took that feeling away from us, seemingly permanently.

Frog Fractions 2 will evoke that same feeling even more strongly. I can't describe what I'm going to make in detail, but I can tell you that I've been thinking about how to properly follow up Frog Fractions for the past year, and I believe I can make something genuinely awesome.

It will not be called "Frog Fractions 2." It will probably be called something like "Lost Kingdom: Reckoning," by Fork Bomb LLC or "Turbo Finance 2015" by Vespenta Holdings. Does that Russian flight sim on Desura look suspicious to you? Better play it just to make sure! Or maybe it'll be a plugin for Bonzi Buddy and you'll discover it when your grandpa asks you to make his email go faster. Wait, are you playing Frog Fractions 2 right now?

In the pledge rewards, you'll note that you get certain things "once The Jig is Up." Since I am not going to announce the release of the game, getting a download code at release would be a spoiler. However, once the story is out there (e.g. once you start to see articles in the enthusiast press about it) then the download codes will go out. If you figure out Frog Fractions 2's secret identity before The Jig is Up, send me an email and I'll give you a code immediately.

I remember people were a little iffy about the campaign at first since no one really knew what was going to come of it but that's part of the excitement of Frog Fractions. If no one figures it out before March 2016 (I think), we're gonna get more heavy handed hints.

So looking at this for a bit and ignoring the AMPHIBIAN lead for now I figured that .xyz was a top level domain and since we've seen them using .info and .cool so far I'd give some variations a shot.

Of all possible variations of 12ab, two websites exist:

1a2b.xyz
12ba.xyz

Neither seem much like anything, although the first is made using a WordPress theme by FlyFree media.

That street address is the Berkeley Bowl, a grocery store I go to from time to time. I'll check for illuminati secrets next time I'm there.

What if I told you you're playing Frog Fractions 2 right now?

Seems like a whole lot of nothing for 72k tbh.

But we'll see. I'll keep tabs on this.

But to be fair, I didn't donate any money to this whatsoever, so I really have no right to say anything. Was hoping to buy whatever FF2 was.

A wii remote has 1 and 2, and a wii classic controller has any and z1 z2

Just realized that .page could also be a domain, so I tried stuff like bringmethered.page and thankyouforbringingthered.page

No dice so far.

It must be hard for Twinbeard to actually create an ARG in real time as people are trying to figure it out and are watching every single step he makes.

I was trying to find websites with a uncommon domain but sifting through the thousands and thousands of websites hosted on that IP address got old fast lol

I guess there is a podcast called the Red Pages podcast that has previously tied in with this ARG, so most likely it was a hint towards that. Kind of solved?

There seems to have been a hidden braille message in the last THD that has coordinates pointing to Indiecade's location. It's happening next week. People think FF2 might be there~

Interesting... the last one had a hint to a podcast Jim was on so maybe it'll be another appearance if it's not the game. Is there a way to see all games that will be there? I've not seen anything that's caught my eye yet.

Twinbeard is at Indiecade in his usual cosplay (lol) of a name tag that says that he is Riccardo the CEO of King.com. Hope we get some new details~

Latest Train Hot Dog had artwork that said "Looking for Riccardo Zacconi, a tragicomedy in two acts".

Also Frog Fractions is 3 years old today (or tomorrow)!
