Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

Hey guys, question about installing TN-V11 bubble on 3.52 WITH an exploit game......

I want to use the SIMPLE method of bubble creation (without the email tricks) as described here http://wololo.net/2015/10/04/releas...le-installer-for-firmware-3-5x-exploit-games/

I have already used that method to create an ARK-2 bubble and it was easy and pain free. How can I do the same to create a TN-V11 bubble? All of the guides are using the email trick method.

Unless I'm mistaken there is no way. You need the email exploit.

The only problem with cfw on a PSTV is that the PSP emulation looks pretty torn up on a TV compared to the way it looks on a Vita screen. So its a cool thing for playing my import psp games but I'll stick with Wii U for TV emus.

Catching up with the state of things; are the new exploits still ones that boot your Vita into a lower-res "PSP mode" that allows you to tun PSP (not Vita-native) homebrew? I thought I had read over the summer that Vita native homebrew was running, albeit it was just a hello world screen. Anyway if that's all that's going on, I'm passing for now, but very cool stuff all the same.

Edit: Answered my own question; was thinking of Rejuvinate: http://wololo.net/2015/06/15/ps-vit...rejuvenate-platform-native-ps-vita-homebrews/
Heck yeah, emulation! http://wololo.net/emulators-for-the-ps-vita/

The Vita is such a beast, emulating stuff on it will be awesome. I got work to do.

Yeah!

... I wouldn't hold my breath, though. Rejuvenate is very, very, very limited at the moment. Get a N3DS if you want really good portable emulation on a current-gen handheld.

I have to second that. The New 3DS is significantly further ahead in terms of emulation right now than the Vita likely ever will be.

The extra processing grunt the N3DS has over the Vita helps too. Significantly faster than the Vita.

You can't compare it that simply. ARM11 is still a very outdated architecture. If we look at the Dhrystone benchmarks, ARM11 has 1.2 DMIPS/MHz vs Cortex A9's 2.5 DMIPS/MHz. If we take Vita's max 444MHz and New 3DS's max 804MHz, that gives Vita 1110 DMIPS and New 3DS 964.8 DMIPS.

That's just one benchmark, sure, but the New 3DS doesn't significantly overpower the Vita.

It doesn't, I admit. It's still more than capable, and a damn sight easier to hack - with significantly more support in the scene.

Unity on Vita, and thus Rejuvinate, only has one core free out of the 4 in the system and 184 megs of main ram. As listed here: https://psm.playstation.net/static/...psm/en/Documentation/Manual/PSMTechSpecs.html

The N3DS is listed as having 3 of it's 4 cores open for programs to use. So multithreaded apps have the potential to exceed what Rejuvinate can do, on top of not needing to refresh your license every day and depend on another device to launch programs from. If I was getting a handheld dedicated to homebrew purposes it would be a N3DS at this point.

If there was a native mode Vita hack that didn't need Unity, it would have higher upper end potential.

As far as I can tell, that comparison is fair and correct... but it only matters if you are proper developer with access to all the functions of both consoles. Currently (and, again, AFAIK), the homebrew scene has much more access to what the N3DS has to offer than to what is available on the Vita.

But then again, I didn't mean to make this a Vita vs. 3DS homebrew contest. I was just giving advice on what to expect for Rejuvenate: a limited (and cumbersome) method to run native homebrew that is still very green and pales in comparison to other contemporary handhelds. It has the potential to be great. But right now... meh.

Apparently there's a way to get homebrew on firmwares under 3.55 without a game? I haven't followed the scene on this for years, so I'm quite unsure what I would need to accomplish getting homebrew back on it.

Anyone got any guides? I'm on firmware 3.52, if that helps.

Just create one for each disc?

I tried what you suggested... and it worked! Disc 1 of FFVII loaded just fine. Too bad it runs like dogshit. TN-V was a fine experiment, but I think I'll wait for ARK-3 for proper emulation speed and sound support.

Yes, but, mind you, it's all ePSP, meaning it's not native (that would be Rejuvenate, for 3.51 and lower OFWs). If you want PSP games and homebrew, follow this guide. If you want just homebrew, follow this other guide.

For future reference, Hackinformer's Ultimate Playstation Firmware Guide has everything you will ever need to know about Vita exploits.

Finally tried this today, did the email reset trick (with the writer eml etc) and that worked fine.

Then I tried to install both VBHL and Ark using the Hackinformer guide. No matter where I place the relevant folders inside my Ape Quest folder, when it comes to transferring the save to my Vita it simply shows the original save rather than the one I'm looking for.

Any idea where I'm going wrong?

Are you using Qcma to transfer for the save? (Not Opencma)

Yeah, it seems to copy my saves from the Vita to my computer okay but whenever I go to copy from the computer it only finds the original save.

I've copied the entire folder (including the folder itself) into the Ape Quest save game folder so all it shows in there is the VBHL01234 folder and three other files but I can't get it to show as the VBHL save when copying it back. Very frustrating lol but I can't help but think I've overlooked something simple?

Yep.

You just put whatever files you want to transfer into the save and QCMA it over. Check the save file size displayed on your Vita for verification.

Get ftp Vita installed asap too

I need some help how to continue from there:
I'm on 3.52 and used the email exploit to replace the Ape Quest demo with ARK-2 and Numblast with TNV-11.
Both seem to work fine so far.

First I tried to get 138Menu for ARK since I used that on my other Vita. The readme says
"Copy the files EBOOT.PBP (rename if needed) and DATA.138 to your exploit/menu folder and transfer to the device."
So I copied both files in the save file, transferred it back on the Vita but nothing changes.
Do I have to do something differently with the email exploit?

I tried copying the FTP tool via INSTALL.ZIP (same file as on my other Vita) but ARK just closes itself when I try to start. Last time I installed it via 138Menu so not sure what exactly I should do on the default menu to install it.

I tried following this guide to get plugins for TNV-11:
http://hackinformer.com/forum/thread-485.html
But when I try to start the RECOVERY.PBP I get an error 80010002 that the game couldn't load.
The guide mentions the PSVITA/PSAVEDATA/[Vita's_ID]/TNV_54321 folder. But the folder from the hackinformer guide is named TNV_00000. Does this matter?

Yes. The exact location is key. I'm vacationing so unfortunately I can't follow you through this. If you still have issues tomorrow I need to settle my 3rd vita and 3rd PSTV so I'm happy to stream my exact walkthrough.

Thank you :)
I managed to make some progress. ONEMenu did work and I could install the vita FTP.
I'll try the plugin part from the TNV tutorial again with that.

If you got the FTP working I bet you can make work. However if you can't PM me and I'll get back to you in 24-36 hours when I have a device.

edit: It works. I just re-did all the copying and now Xenogears did boot op.
Unfortunately doesn't seem to be compatible. It's running slower than normal and crashed during the intro. Diablo hangs at the initial loading screen.
Found the sound settings. Now I'm playing Diablo on my Vita. This is so awesome. Xenogears works, too but with very bad audio issues.

And another problem, but not really bad: Every time I start ARK VitaFTP is missing. If I reinstall the INSTALL.ZIP and overwrite it it still doesn't show up. Re-installing with renaming works but then I have it installed twice. I can just delete the duplicate on the PC via ftp so it's not too bad. I just wonder why this is happening.

Qwikrazor has released a plugin for TN-V 11 to make it search for content in /VHBL instead of /GAME. This should be useful mostly for people running 3.5X, which doesn't allow folders to be written to /GAME.

here is a plugin that patches the XMB in TN-V to list games/homebrew from ms0:/PSP/VHBL/ instead of ms0:/PSP/GAME/.
It is also patched to search for homebrew/games in this order:
EBOOT.PBP
FBOOT.PBP
VBOOT.PBP
WMENU.BIN

so if you have eboots with these names in the homebrew folder, then the first match found will be launched.
readme is included.

I use ARK's internal file manager. I guess PSP Filer could also work.

Both are slow as fuck as well, but, hey. It's at least another kind of suck.

at least with the N3DS I can take the bloody sd card out and plug it into a PC for 30mb/s glory

goddamnit sony

Qwikrazor just posted that as soon as he figures out how to do it, he'll make this plugin look BOTH into /VHBL and /ISO, so you can load both your homebrews and PSP/PSX games without having to move anything (and maintaining compatibility with other loaders, such as ARK).

Awesome!

I have to admit, I'm disappointed with the PSX compatibility. I've only got a few titles to use (SOTN, Theme Park World, Theme Park and Hogs of War). They all run either with no sound on ARK (obviously) but at full speed, or with sound on TN-V but with ridiculous slowdown.

SOTN isn't too bad as I own dracula x chronicles, but I want my theme park and rik mayall goddamnit

yeah, but emulation is slow as shit on some games sadly.

lol damn it. Meh I think I will still give it a go this weekend to test out thps2. Also is it possible to launch this through ark or do I have to do all the email shenanigans?

AFAIK, you can't launch eCFW through eCFW. I may be wrong, though. Installing a TN-V 11 bubble is as easy as it gets, though it involves the e-mail exploit. I wouldn't bother with TN-V right now if you have ARK working. ARK does everything TN-V does, but better.

Well, yeah, PSX games have no sound, but at least they are playable. Get yourself some good podcast and you're set :)

Will TN-V continue to work normally if I update from 3.36 the latest 3.55 FW ? I need later firmwares for new games.

I used the email hack method and bubble blower for creating bubbles.

You have go to "Advanced" menu in the TN-V menu, and then you see the menu where it says to install 6.60 files.

The game2vhbl plugin has been updated by Qwikrazor. It should fix any errors people were having when launching homebrew. Curiously enough, I could load homebrew just fine. I couldn't load any PSX game, though :(

You can use an FTP homebrew or put the games on a SAVEDATA folder and move them with QCMA like you did with ARK/TN-V. Follow this tutorial.

i have another question , about custom bubbles
1-can i install several bubbles using 1 game ?
2-cam i put PS1 and PSP game in them ?

3- i am trying to take screen shot inside a PSP game that i am running inside Ark , but i can't , any way to force screenshot ?

What are my options for homebrew / playing my PSX rips ?

I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times. It gets ti be a bit cumbersome to sift through threads like this when people are referring to specific hacks and you're not sure what each of them is for.

1. I think it depends on the method you're using. AFAIK, you can with the MajorGas trick, but not with Qwikrazor's (as it overtakes the base game you're using and tricks the Vita into thinking it remains the same).

2. You can make PSP bubbles, but not PSX bubbles, if I'm not mistaken.

3. I honestly don't know. Can you take screenshots from official PSN PSP games?

As far as I know, you'll need extra hardware to move a PSP game or demo to your Vita if you don't have any on it already. Either a PSTV with OFW 3.52/3.55 or a PS3.
