NieR Automata GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE + 60fps confirmed

Not quite, you read through the text and are asked to make some choices. You progress or not, depending on those choices.

Its like a normal text adventure. Like Zork for example.

There's just text on a black screen that you advance. After a while it gives you a choice. Pick the right answer to move on.

Are they optional ? cause i'm not sure if I'll enjoy those

My copy should arrive tomorrow and I will find out.

Some of those segments are optional, but not all. You should still give them a try, though; they're much more 'short story' than traditional text adventure, if you're worried you won't enjoy the gameplay part of them.

The text segment in the forest isn't that long. That said Kaine's backstory is the same way (without the choices) and that is fairly long.

Yup, 2 are mandatory, 2 are optional.

They are very, very well written, as long as you dont have an allergy against reading, you'll enjoy them i think.

8-4 better be handing the localization.

I hope so; it seems likely enough going by how they were brought back for Drakengard 3, assuming there aren't any prohibitive scheduling conflicts. This game translated internally by S-E would be nightmarish.

I hope they do a better job with this game's dub over Drakengard 3's, which was a disappointment. Nier's VA was just waaaay better.

They had a pretty good cast for VA in Nier.

I think they tried too much to emulate Nier in Drakengard 3 though, complete with cursing and stuff like that, when those tonal inflections werent so prevalent in the original script. Zero is not Kaine in the least

I think this game won't be internally translated. Since they said this game will come out around the same time as FFXV anyway they have a lot on their plate already and will just let PG and Taro go to whomever for translation since they already have before and is probably cheaper as well.

Is anyone still weirded out that a Yoko Taro game of all things is actually getting production values!? Like, a huge part of the experience is just how janky and shitty a portion of the games are, whether it be graphics, gameplay or what have you, but have that spark of brilliance which elevates them to cult status.

But it seems like we're actually getting a game with a budget this time and a competent developer, but with Yoko Taro at the helm, which my brain can't wrap my head around.

Never played Nier.

I am here for dat Platinum goodness

You missed out

It doesn't make sense but it is happening!! And I am fucking excited lol as we all are

Great way to spoil him the whole game, if he ever wanted to try it out ;-)

Still can't believe they put all these spoilers into the intro; that's why I usually skip them in jRPGs.

Huh? Nothing of that really is a spoiler.

Except for fyra maybe.

I find this is one point that is not brought up often enough when talking about nier.
The gameplay and design changes during the game were magnificent and cleverly used.

There's an awful lot of stuff to admire about Nier's design. The execution may not always be what you'd hope it to be, but from a structural/conceptual standpoint its an exceptional piece of work.

It amazes me that despite its obvious flaws and shortcomings I still think it was the most singularly intellectually and emotionally resonant title of its generation. I was moved by Journey, and Naughty Dog's mastery of conventional cinematic storytelling in TLOU impressed the hell out of me, but Nier's relentless barrage of twists, turns and moral paradoxes just beat me senseless.

As a die hard NieR fan, I fail to see how that story connects to NieR in any way. Kinda disappointed. Gameplay looks smooth, although it lacks the "heaviness" of NieR's combat, which is at times really satisfying (e.g. 2H sword or when you do a roll when you are knocked back). Don't really feel the main character either. =/ Music is promising, but not on the level of NieR, yet.

Fyra and Emil sacrifice. Two of the most emotional scenes in the first playthrough.
And pretty much every boss of the game, and even some of the gameplay changes that should actually be surprises.

It most likely wont connect in any form, just like Yokos other games.

It's a continuation of elements from Nier's Ending E, with the Yorha plot being adapted from a stage play that was referenced in Drakengard 3. While not a direct sequel, the elements we've seen all have a clear link to previous games; and there's probably more in the way of connections which haven't yet been revealed. Though the intention always seems to have been to create something new in that setting - with the way Nier ended, how much do you think a traditional sequel really could have done?

I think you mean ending D? Pretty sure that's what Taro said

I don't mean a continuation of the father / broter NieR story (how could you unless you play Yonah or something), but even the world / setting doesn't seem to be intact. No gestalts, no replicants, just some weird Emil-robots. It feels like the lore is totally gone for some reasons.

I show the intro always to people to make them want to play the game. :p I don't think you get spoiled by it if you have not played the game yet. You simply don't connect the dots or remember stuff when you play it. It's only spoilerish if you actually know the game at which point it's hardly a "spoiler" anymore.

Is there any chance we'll see a remaster or perhaps at least a PC port? That the game isn't even available digitally is pretty annoying.

Who knows. Maybe if Nier Automata gets ported to PC one day and gets good sales, they'll port the game to PC after that, but its a big if.

I never understood that sentiment about spoilers in montages. A bunch of random scenes without context don't even really spoil anything if you don't even know what the game is about.

Maybe a little if it shows super specific things, but they didn't show that much.

I mean, I'm slightly dissapointed too about what we know so far about the story, especially because I don't really feel like they took an unrelated story and put them in Nier's canon.

But damn, the gameplay looks so good that I'm willing to forget that. I don't take this game as a Nier 2 but a new IP.

We know next to nothing of the story yet, W&S.

I have a very good visual memory, and so while on the first watch, I don't really spoil myself anything, I'll usually connect the dots while playing and spoil myself later.

Its playing 8000 years later, thats probably why.

You should do that anyways, while all of yoko taros storys take place in the same universe (except for his new Manga, but who knows lol) , they're all very different in tone and content.

Gestalts and replicants would have all been destroyed a long time ago anyway cuz
aliens, and Nier was apparently 8000+ thousand years from the events of this new game

*edit* beaten

It's probably not going to be explicit, but we haven't seen how a lot of those connections might play out, if they're there. The living machines' possible connection to the Ultimate Weapons is unknown, the relationship between Yorha units and Nier's androids similarly so. Along with the possibility of areas from the first game returning, and everything about the remaining playable characters (including species) being unknown, the setting definitely shouldn't be written off as having no connection to the first.

I think you mean ending D? Pretty sure that's what Taro said

I might be confusing the actual Ending E with the confirmation of the alien invasion in Grimoire Nier.

I disagree completely, I loved D3's script and translation. I thought it fit the bleakness of the world just fine.

The excessive cursing was obviously tacked on though and wasn't part of the original script. I didn't enjoy the VA at all either.

That's a shame, I loved it.

One's voice especially.

"If you think you're the only one suffering here, you're out of your goddamn mind! Two, Three, Four, Five... You gave life to each and every one of them... Then you went and killed them all! What did you expect!? Cursing the world... Then saving the world... You thought you could do everything by yourself? Well, THIS IS WHAT YOU FUCKING GET!"

The delivery of that line was so on point.

The text adventures were tremendous. Best part in the game.

And the layering music with the text adventures? Oh man.

The whole game employs layering music and It's one of the reasons why the soundtrack for this game is so great, because as amazing as it sounds out of context, it's somehow more impressive when it plays in-game.
