Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PC performance thread

Idk, I am not impressed with the graphics. Maybe something wrong with my game lol? The lighting just seems off, really boring and flat. And the colors are also kind of pale:

blackops3mxqkg.png

Shadows don't look so good, too.

If anyone is having washed out colors try setting it to HDTV mode instead of sRGB, makes it look much richer.

Really an awful port so far, though.

Thx trying this right now.

so the general consensus is that its broken as shit right now? i was hardcore eyeing the pre order slip at best buy today while pre ordering fallout. i think ill stick to my guns and wait it out til next year to see how their "dedication to pc" plays out.

Looks like it's a 50/50.

I'm not really having any problems, some framerate dips here and there but that's mostly due to me not being so familiar with my resolution and sort of AA settings I don't need. But quite a few people are struggling with the game.

Yeah the performance is a bit worse than I would like but it seems fine for the most part.

Shadow maps on Extra + Dynamic shadows is a huge performance killer.

Textures on High will use more than 2GB of RAM and will cause random stuttering on GPUs that only have that much available.

Holy shit, I can barely even get through the menus. I keep getting... I don't know what to call them. Soft freezes, I guess?

It aso keeps switching back to windowed mode from fullscreen.

Changing "Display Gamma" to HDTV seemed to help a bit (maybe? still testing):

Computer (sRGB), default:

HDTV (rec.709):

Don't know if the difference is visible to other users. The strange thing is my monitor has nearly full sRGB coverage, but it still looks washed out.

Edit: Sigh, now other stuff looks weird, menus etc. ...

Edit: Now using sRGB with brightness set to -0.50

Was getting horrible performance with a 970 initially until I changed Textures to High and Shadow Maps to high. Been a perfect 60 fps since then.

This is terrible. I made the .ini tweaks, screwed with the settings a bit, have a bunch of stuff on medium to high, and it STILL stutters worse than a speech impaired kid in a public speaking class. My 970 should be able to run this at max or at least high without this much stuttering.

I really hope they sort this out soon, because the campaign seems super promising.

Yeah I'm running it medium settings and it barely breaks 30fps. I'm hoping this is just a temporary issue and that my PC can in fact handle Call of Duty.

I'm sitting at around 105fps with all the options as high as they go including AA(except rendering which is 100%). Playing at 2560x1440 with sli 980ti's, i5 4690k @ 4.2, and 32GB ram.

So what seems to be the most taxing options? I've disabled volumetric lighting and set shadow maps to high, but the framerate still goes nuts at times, especially during cutscenes. Should I disable dynamic shadows? 1440p on a 980Ti.

Welcome to bad PC port world. You shouldn't expect much these days including anything outstanding or even playable from your 970 either. We are not worthy.

Played 3 mp games. They were all P2P.

Absolutely not seeing how to split screen between monitors.

Fuck this game. I'm such an idiot.

Holy crap.... my CPU is at 100% load on the games menu with COD taking 70-80% of my CPU alone. I can't even get through the menu's, on a 4670k@4.7ghz

If it runs like that on a 980Ti even, then it's best you accept it the way it is. No tinkering can make it run stable, I imagine.

Don't know when PC gamers will get out of this rut of bad ports.

Just saw someone in the steam forums say that turning dynamic shadows off gave them a huge performance boost. I haven't tried it yet myself and I won't tonight since I'm going to bed, but I'm curious if it's true or not.

This is disappointing, was the beta this bad? My copy will be arriving sometime next week and I hope I get acceptable performance on my 970 at 1440p >_>

Um.. so I'm pretty sure when PCdev said "split across two monitors" he meant literally stretching while in windowed mode.

That isn't a fucking feature. And doing it this way, when you leave the game and go back to the menu (which isnt split screen) you have a huge stretched out menu between two screens.

Please tell me I'm wrong and there's a real way to do this. This was a major reason why I got this on PC. This is false advertising.

Changing the fps cap just a bit below your refresh rate helps a lot. I was getting horrible performance and input lag before. Also, fuck chromatic aberration.

Massive lag during menus from startup

Alt+Enter to go into windowed mode, then alt+enter again to enter fullscreen mode fixes this.

Thought I'd mention that the game seems to automatically select your highest resolution instead of your display's native res. I had some DSR's set up and it chose a 5k res. I couldn't even use the menus it was so unresponsive.

lol

lol

so this is why my mouse doesnt work

Got to play for about an hour with no issues besides the menu being weird because the game automatically changes your resolution to DSR settings for some reason. Worked fine once I changed things to 1080p. All settings are on "High". VRAM usage was around 3800-4100 getting about 97fps pretty constantly give or take. I put the refresh rate a little under what my monitor is at as people have recommended. Using lightboost at 100hz because I am too cheap to buy a gsync monitor just yet. Have FXAA on and haven't tried any other AA methods yet.

Tried to turn on "Extra" and VRAM usage shot up to a little over 6GB really quick so turned that off. Haven't tried changing that one recommended setting in the .ini as I haven't had any issues with performance. Not using motion blur as I don't like it in 99% of games.

i5 2500k@4.4
16GB DDR3 Dominator @2133
980ti 6G
Running off a regular HDD (saving my SSD space for FO4)

Explosions look kinda ugly at times and will give me super small dips into the 80's and the audio is all over the place. Guns sound very quiet while shooting with really loud reload sounds.

i7 5820k 4.2Ghz, 16gb DDR4 2666mhz, Gtx 980Ti G1, 1440p Gsync and the framerate tanks during big firefights. Everything maxed except AA which is set to 1x.

Tried to turn on "Extra" and VRAM usage shot up to a little over 6GB really quick so turned that off.

The hell?

The resolution keeps changing for anyone else? I set it to 1080p and the damn thing keeps defaulting to 3840x2160. It should not even be defaulting to such a high resolution.

Just discovered something, and i'm not sure if it's intended.

Obviously, auto aim is in for controllers. However, if you split your input, say, by putting your movement on the left stick of the controller and your aiming and shooting on the mouse, you can get aim assist by using the mouse, so long as you continue inputting on the controller while doing it.

Probably needs a fix, because it's really strong and really exploitable. I can post a video shortly.

How are the Radeons doing?

Mostly Nvidia reports so far.

R9 390 here, with latest beta drivers, i7 6700k, 16gb ram, with all settings maxed, and I have yet to run into any of the problems reported here. Maybe i'm one of the lucky ones?

Not many have mentioned which Windows they are running when posting performance impressions. I wish you guys would do that, your version of Windows can be very impactful in certain games, or it can be the single factor that determines if a certain bug activates... I'm trying to figure out if this is one of those games.

Anyone with a 980Ti and Win10? How has it been for you?

i5-4690K
R9 290X
16GB RAM
Windows 10

I did the "Worker Threads" fix and have the settings at mostly High (OIT and Volumetric Lighting at Medium...AO at Extra...AA is Filmic X1)

Gameplay wise everything seems to run at a steady 60 FPS on 1080p with those settings...the cinematic scenes seem to have some issues though

OIT, Volumetric Lighting, Extra High Textures, and Extra High Shadows all can tank your performance so that's why I dialed back on each of those

I've only done the first 2 Campaign missions and some Freerun...no MP yet

Performance wise I'm getting 60fps @1080p with everything on high apart from transparency and lighting (off), smaa 2x.

Game is pretty smooth apart from a weird low fps thing for the first 10 seconds of each round.

Edit 2500k @4.4Ghz / 7970GE 3GB / 8GB Ram

980TI windows 8.1 here.

Runs like horse shit.

Darn. Have you tried lowering the texture quality down one notch? Does it help, or still bad?

http://www.techpowerup.com/217308/black-ops-iii-12-gb-ram-and-gtx-980-ti-not-enough.html

If those guys have it right and I'm reading it right, the highest textures require 8 gigs+ of VRAM, or alternatively 16 gigs RAM and 6 gigs VRAM.

I'm just not seeing the return of investment from those kind of requirements if true. It has to be a bug or something. That's bonkers.

I don't have the game yet but I suspect the high OIT option will be extremely taxing, the "extra" texture setting seems to cache an awful lot of data and does not seem to offer appreciable quality bump compared to the "high" setting.

sli 970's with i5 2500k and I am shooting between 45fps and 119 fps which I find REALLY jarring.

Might give that i5 fix a try, see if that helps.
