I actually really like the designs for the game, I just hope the game is good, haven't really got into a Star Ocean game since the second game.

Off topic but who the heck is that gray haired girl to the left of Fayt? I don't remember her at all...

Claire. Her father[?] was the playable magical samurai Adray. She's Nel's friend (hence why they're dressed the same)

OKay yeah I remember the old shirtless samurai dude. The picture made it seem like she was a playable character, that's why I was confused. Thanks for the explanation.

I am so excited to play this, I absolutely cannot wait. I really like the design of the main character, but the pink haired girl does look a little creepy. Overall, I like her design as well, though.

I pray they keep the original JP VO available for the US release... Star Ocean has a history of cringe worthy VO.

well the remake of 2 fixed that original terrible stuff (its not the best but its way better than the original) and SO4 had some cringy lines, SO3 was probably the only great overall one. and the psp remake/ports were fine.

I just really don't like full screen filters that mess with the white balance or distort the colors. Those UI portraits are way more bright and colorful than the actual character models because they aren't affected by the filter.

In fact, I don't really care for most post processing at all.

I don't mind the use of anything so long as it enhances my ability to see what is one the screen. Thus, I don't care for motion blur, huge lens flare or anything that darkens the image. If it makes the image brighter, and more crisp I will like it.

Was she supposed to be playable at some point or is that just fan art?

Thats official work. But I dont think she was ever going to be playable, I kinda forgot the differences between the original release and the director's cut version. All i know, is that PAs better mean something this time unlike SO4, SO3 had a point where PAs affected what boss you would fight. Also ADRAY sucked... give me a Buff swordsman.. who completely used magic.

The original version Adray and Mirage were NPCs and never joined your party. Also (not entirely sure), the optional recruits were setup where you had choose between Roger or Peppeta and Nel or Albel, unlike the Director's Cut where you can mix and match.

Also endings in the director's cut was fully voiced unlike the original game which it was just text based dialog with no additional recording done. Also Battle Trophies were expanded too to account for the new characters and various tweaks to the mechanics done in the Director's Cut.

That's one thing that disappointed me with Star Ocean 4. I thought the International Edition would have had new optional recruits such as Crowe for example, outside of just Japanese menus and character art, and some minor gameplay revisions such as item placements in treasure boxes being different as well as some Item Creation effects being toned down to not be as exploitable. Oh well.

In theory I like the explanation for Fiore's costume. Several friends who are heavily into body art like to show it off, so I think as a justification its fine. Its just the actual execution doesnt hold up (making one imagine the real impetus for its design is titillation), I would have liked to see significantly more rune marks, so that instead of bare skin the majority of the time we're seeing runes.

How does anyone's brain even come up with shit like this:

Fairly easily? Its pretty generic, a classic harlequin check pattern with one set of diamonds cut out, drill curls and a witches hat. Cant imagine it strained the artists creative muscles.

It really isn't that boggling. Bodysuit with cutouts. However, getting it on in real life would probably be an absolute nightmare.

With all of the cutouts and narrow sections between each checkerboard point. I bet the cosplay variant would be very flimsy and easily ripped.

Then again, I have been impressed with cosplay before, so I'm sure someone eventually be up to the task of making Fiore's outfit.

EoE or VP designs wouldn't really fit SO. Tri-Ace have said that they want the game to remind people of the SO games before SO4, and these designs would fit right in with the casts of those games

No offense to the artists or anybody who likes them but the designs in SO3 are AWFUL. Like barf. SO2 are better but not by as much as I'd like :/

Which in this case is a couple minutes of Photoshopping to try and cancel out the darkened areas of the screen. I wish vignetting, chromatic aberration, film grain, etc. were always optional, even on consoles.

"Star Ocean gameplay is often compared to the Tales series of video games by Namco, which is not a coincidence: after the release of Tales of Phantasia, practically its entire design department left and founded tri-Ace."

Which means, that they're not the ones responsible for the recent Tales Of games.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

Totally agree with this, PAs were a major highlight of SO2 and SO3.

Website update's up. All kinds of cool stuff including some character bios, voice samples and...

Holy shit the BGMs. "Field01" is right in line with some of my favorite SO3 dungeon themes.

I. Can't. Wait. To. Play. This.

Battle01 sounds like if Sakuraba composed for an Ys game.

It sounds amazing.

Happy he's bringing his best game to SO yet again.

That CE bundle looks pretty sweet. I wonder if we'll get the same in US... Yeah, probably not. We did get the DQH bundle, though.

The kid character looks like she could be ok. Her clothes kinda remind me of Mongolian and Inuit mix or something. Please don't be as shit as Lymle.

Damnit we need a release date for the west so I know what date to look forward to.

I liked the Star Ocean 3 character designs. Though I may be the minority... I haven't seen that artist do anything else so I'm guessing they didn't go over well.

Anyways, the cast for 5 looks really cool so far!

Kid looks good, and she's smiling in one of those pics so that hopefully eliminates another Lymle Situation.

Star Ocean 3's character designs were great because they weren't too busy and overdesigned, and I'm a fan of the bits of armor some characters like Fayt (legs) and Maria (chestpiece) have. Also, Nel's scarf is bomb.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness Famitsu feature from this week’s issue.

Lilia is the focus here, and interestingly enough, she is NOT a playable character. She is however a member of your party, and will participate in battles as usual. Famitsu doesn’t get specific, but she’s an active participant and will grow just like the rest of your characters. Huh.

Private Actions are back, indicated by whistle icons on your map. There are Private Actions where you’ll be able to select from a series of responses in dialogue, which will apparently have an effect on other events as well.
