Developers really need to start having DS4 support on their PC games

For all the shit Arkham Knight PC release got one thing I was very pleasantly surprised about it was perfect native DS4 support. And apparently most if not all Ubisoft games do this too along with bunch of other games like Evil Within and whatnot so it cannot be a technical issue.

How can so many games still not support it? Witcher 3 actually natively lets you use it but the game doesn't have options for PS button icons, how hard can that be? It's not like DS4 is going to be a rarity among gamers in the future.

I understand the situation with last gen but even upcoming releases like Dragons Dogma PC specifically only supports Xbox controllers. Why must this be so hard :(

The first thing I do when I fire up a PC game in my backlog is look for a Playstation controller icon mod, and literally just did that last night for Dark Souls PtD Edition (found at least five mods to choose from, PS3 or PS4).

I have zero interest in a Xbox controller, so if no mod exists, I make do.

Like, the biggest problem isn't even about having the controller work since it's easy to emulate. Just having an option for the PS icons would be enough.

Only way that happens is if MS opens how controller are seen in the OS and let devs or companies like sony/nintendo have an input. They are to blame. They could do better but they don't cause could it an eat in to territory they naturally want to keep.

Some of us don't want to hack or fool the OS in to what controller it is anymore.

I think more and more games will begin to support it, especially once Sony comes out with the remote play.

It's sooooo nice when my PS4 controller is natively supported. Mad Max and Witcher III both have this in recent memory.

I find myself using my Xbox One controller on PC more than I actually use it on Xbox One. Plug/Play just so handy.

You do realize plenty of games already natively support the DS4, along with touchpad and icon support, right?

I can understand the OP that not having those icons is annoying. Its beyond me why anyone would use a Ds4 instead of an XBox controller though. Also, the steam controller blows both out of the water after you got used to it.

I guess widespread use isn't common because Sony didn't develop native drivers like MS does for their controllers? Or am I wrong?

LB and RB are horrible on XBO controller. Also I prefer the stick placement+D pad.

Get a Xbox controller.

PS4 controller is much better though, I always used an X360 controller on PC until I bought a PS4 and I could never go back, the Xbox controller offends my hands now.

actually i'm pretty sure that your hands just aren't used to holding plastic that isn't rickety and ready to break :^)

I guess the market share of the PS4 controllers on the PC side isn't that big?

It might not be worth the "effort", if you will.

That's one reason why I could see not many games supporting the controller.

Oh, please, people.

We finally have two controllers that stand neck and neck and are extremely pleasant to play with. Y'all can stop posturing :p

How much effort can it be to rip the button icons from your PS4 version and put them in the options. I can do the rest :(

MGSV Phantom Pain also works natively with Dualshock 4. Ground Zeroes does not though. You have to use a mod to get the DS4 UI buttons for MGSV TPP as well.

Transistor works with PS4 controller natively as well, with automatically adjusted face buttons/PS dpad UI buttons.

Street Fighter IV also detects the PS4 controller natively, I believe it is through DirectInput, fully customizable. Devil May Cry 4 (not sure about SE) is also the same way, RE5 I believe is the same as well.

Only other examples I know right now are Fallout 4 and NBA 2K16, which both only partially adjust UI buttons to PlayStation buttons but mostly not which is weird.

Many older games also support DirectInput and can be played with a Dualshock 4 and this list would be very long (many games used full DirectInput support which would work with any controller pretty much..... so sad we had to move to Xinput.... ugh). Examples....

Battlefield 1942
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Halo: Combat Evolved (though not Halo 2)
OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast
Red Faction 2
Star Wars Rogue Squadron
Star Wars Starfighter

All fully customizable controls.

Many more that used DirectInput but can't be bothered to verify any more games at the moment :)

Really? It's been extremely hit or miss for me. I think only a handful of my PC games work with it. I do wish either Sony increased their interest on PC and added Xinupt support or devs would largely add direct input support if it's not a taxing thing.

What's the point of people coming in to troll the thread with their XBox controller gushings? The man obviously has his mind made up as to his preferred method, so no need to turn it into a controller warz discussion.

I now see why port begging is banned; derails of all kinds don't help anyone.

Doesnt DS4 support directinput only and not xinput?

directinput. in 2015.

lololololol

I don't understand, this thread is about native support for the DS4 which would be impossible if it was an xinput device since it would just be emulating an XBox pad (Which you can already do but better with DS4Windows or similar).

A bit of topic, a tiny, selfish part of me hates it when a game supports DInput automatically because it means I have to unplug my HOTAS, otherwise the game reads the throttle as a directional axis and infinitely scrolls menu options. This includes Steam BPM.

If they did write a driver would more developers implement it in their games?

if it was as easy and simple to implement as xinput? no doubt many more would adopt it.

You have convinced me, I'm going to buy a $150 controller right now.

i went through multiple 360 controllers thanks to shitty rubber on the analogs, at least 2 DS4s when i had my ps4 (one black and one glacier white) and i'm on my second xbox one controller (simply because i wanted the lunar white instead)

i spent $150 on a keyboard and $70 on a mouse. no, you don't need to spend $150 on a controller but at least you know you're getting a premium product/quality. i'm sure you can get $150 worth of gameplay out of a controller, too

If Konami can do this right then you should have no excuses!

You need a mod for the icons? How are they doing it right? I know it's not that big of a deal, but I think it'd be nice that more games not only work with the DS4 without Inputmapper, but have the icons, like Far Cry 4 from what I remember. I think they're still planning on bringing the icons to Witcher 3, but it's been a while since I followed up on it.

Yeah, this thread is about PC DS4 support, not what controller you liek moar.

Whoops, I thought only GZ didn't have the icons.

How are MS to blame for Sony not creating official PC support for their controllers?... They could've created an XInput of their own if they wanted to.

The Xbox Elite controller exists.

No need for DS4 support now.

What a terrible first post.

How is it that this is a thread about getting more DS4 support in PC games (which is needed) and there are people shilling a $150 xbox controller as if that's a valid contribution to the discussion? Come on guys.

DS4 has better support than the DS3 did on pc, but that's mostly because you can use xinput wrappers and mod in appropriate button icons.

I'm surprised they don't seem to care, would be another place to sell their accessories.

one dude advocating it =/= people shilling for it

ds4 does have better support, but it ultimately falls on sony to help spread native support with proper prompts. they're doing a lot better than last gen but hopefully with remote play coming to PC they step their game up
